Hey Folks. I'm up here in Seattle and saw this in a paper the other day. Glad I can can contribute this to the forum.

Former Huskies Jon Brockman and Spencer Hawes reunited with Kings
The ex-Washington teammates are back together in the NBA, and with Brockman in the best shape of his life, he's already having an impact in the Las Vegas Summer League.

LAS VEGAS — Spencer Hawes was preparing to jet home to Seattle last month when he got the news: Jon Brockman, his good friend and former Washington teammate, had been drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers, then traded to the Sacramento Kings.

Hawes and Brockman had been teammates since their AAU days with Seattle's Friends of Hoop. They won national summer tournaments together...

Wasn't the pick traded to the Kings the day before and then we drafted him?

or does it work some other way...

Yeah no you're right. We traded for the pick (on draft day, I believe) then drafted Brockman. We did not trade for Brockman. He's wrong. Kind of annoying how this kind of mistake finds it's way to a major newspaper, no?

I may be wrong, but I believe that, since the trade occurred so close to the draft, that the picks couldn't be traded until the draft actually took place (resulting a scenario where we basically drafted for each other).

Ding! Ding! Ding!

We basically agreed that we would make the 31st pick of whomever they wanted and then they would make the 38th pick of whomever we wanted and then trade that person and Sergio R. to us for the player picked at 31.

Thanks for the info!

Here's the press release issued by the Kings when the trade was announced:

JUNE 25, 2009

KINGS-BLAZERS TRADE

Kings Acquire Sergio Rodriguez, the Draft Rights to Jon Brockman and
Cash Considerations in exchange for the draft rights to Jeff Pendergraph

SACRAMENTO, CA ---- The Sacramento Kings tonight acquired 6-3 guard
Sergio Rodriguez, the draft rights to Jon Brockman (38th overall) and
cash considerations from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for the
draft rights to Jeff Pendergraph (31st overall), it was announced by
Kings President Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.

Rodriguez, who has played all three NBA seasons with Portland, has
posted career averages of 3.6 points (.391 FG%, .304 3pt%, .759 FT%),
1.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in 219 contests. Last season,
Rodriguez averaged 4.5 points (.392 FG%, .325 3pt%, .792 FT%), 1.6
rebounds, 3.6 assists and 15.3 minutes per game in 80 appearances for
Portland. Hailing from Spain, Rodriguez was drafted by the Phoenix Suns
with 27th pick in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft. He was traded
to Portland for cash considerations on June 28, 2006.

Brockman, a 6-7, 255-pound forward, averaged 13.8 points (.534 FG%, .612
FT%), 9.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in 131 career games spanning
four years (2005-06 - 2008-09) for University of Washington. He finished
his collegiate career as the Huskies' all-time rebounder with 1,283
boards and second-leading scorer with 1,805 points. Brockman became the
first player in school history to record more than 1,800 points and
1,200 rebounds, a feat achieved by only four players in Pac-10 history.

Thanks for clearing that up VF.

Back to the article. Sounds like Brockman has really impressed Westphall. Coach doesn't seem like the type to give false indications about what he thinks of certain players. There are no guarantees, but at this point it looks very likely that he'll make the team. As for playing time, we'll of course have to see. I'm just glad that it looks like he'll be in the locker room and on the team. Man is it refreshing or what to have a Brockman around?

I liked the article, and I like Jon Brockman. I think his value lies somewhere between Mark Madsen and Scot Pollard...and that's not a bad thing. He definitely fits the mold of a player with the kind of attitude I want our team to have.

Thanks for the article, The Hammer. Glad I was able to clear up the confusion. "The picking of the nits" around here sometimes gets a wee bit out of hand during TDOS.

;)

I think that's a pretty fair assessment if you completely ignore Pollard's shot blocking (Pollard had NBA seasons of 3+ blocks per 48 minutes, while Brockman averaged 0.23 blocks per 48 against relatively small college players). He's shorter than those guys, and may end up having a lot of shots taken over him, but he's burly and will not play matador on us, which is a refreshing change. The rebounding he brings is (obviously) sorely needed.

I didn't expect us to keep him past October, since Geoff doesn't seem too wild about players whose contributions are limited to specific areas of the game, but will be happy enough if we do.
