[SEA/SAC] Discussion thread

The bottom line is that unless Sacramento gets it's act together on the DEFENSIVE END, it is going to be a long season. Never mind how poor Lawson and Powell are playing offensively. Right now this is the worst defensive team the Monarchs have assembled in a number of years, maybe ever. And what makes it even more frustrating is I don't know if it is the talent or the coaching.

who's the top draft pick for next season?
Courtney Paris, Oklahoma Center
Marissa Coleman, Maryland Swingplayer
Kristi Tolliver, Maryland Point Guard

I will make a bold prediction that one of these three will be wearing a Monarchs uniform next season. I would prefer Paris, but I would not mind any of them.;)

How bout we play the 2nd energy team first & then bring the starters in next:cool:
VERY difficult game to watch. If we could make some shots...''can we?

Not much in the mood to chat...maybe thursdays game will be better:confused:

Always nice to see ''YO'' & got a chance to chat with Adia Barnes, we went back in time, when she was a Monarch. She plays in Italy during the off season & does Storm radio during the WNBA season.....cool.
She talked about being half Italian & loves playing over there cuz she gets to eat authentic Italian food.

Goodnight Monarch fans...no sweet dreams tonight.

The Western Conference has much better offensive players now than it did four years ago, when there was no Pondexter, no Augustus, no Wiggins, no Parker, no Hammon, no Young, or no Wauters. Taurasi was a rookie. Bird and Jackson were young and on top of their games. Thompson and Swoopes were still a dominant duo. Leslie was the best player in the league, with Delisha Milton as her sidekick. The players I just mentioned are STILL playing for Western Conference teams.

The West is the best conference in the WNBA, and there are big time players on every single team with one notable exception. The talent level on this team is, by comparison, extremely low. Who's the All-Star? We don't have one unless you count Ticha, who's having her best year since 2003. Who's going to go out and get us 20 points a night? That person doesn't exist on this roster. Who's going to get us that big defensive stop against a 20 ppg scorer? Nobody currently employed by the Monarchs. We have to stop hemmoraging what little talent we have to other Western Conference teams. San Antonio has Buescher. Houston has Maiga-Ba. Seattle has Griffith. What do these teams have in common? They're all ahead of us in the WESTERN CONFERENCE.

Most pre-season prognistications had us finishing at the bottom of the standings because of the lack of individual talent. Couple that with inexperience at head coach, and you get an 8-11 record. While that record could be better, it could also be much worse. Just look at Washington, Atlanta, and Chicago this year or Houston last year.

Most of you will blame the coach because that's the knee-jerk reaction for fans who don't get instant results. But let me ask you this. Who on this roster is our Lauren Jackson? Diana Taurasi? Tina Thompson? Seimone Augustus? Lisa Leslie? Have you even considered that we are the only team in the Western Conference that DOESN'T have an Olympian? Not one! Every other Western Conference team will be represented in Beijing. Even Chicago has an Olympian! Chicago, people!

The last thing I want to hear is how Powell and Lawson didn't get going, which is why we lost. They get their shots. They just don't hit them. The fact that we have to keep depending on Lawson and Powell for offense says a LOT about the lack of talent on this roster. If you ask me, one or both should've been packaged as part of a trade to get Alana Beard many years ago.

No contest.

That was the longest game..............

It's a sad day when three rookies and Sho & Chelsea played better together than our starters. Chemistry issues, energy issue, whatever the issues, it seemed like no one really cared about exerting the energy to play this game. JMO

It is way past time to be trying to figure out substitution patterns, etc. Ticha and Kara can usually be counted on to lift the team, even if they are not scoring, and that was clearly missing tonight.

Whatsup ladies?

who's the top draft pick for next season?
Angel McCoughtry by a significant margin. Outside of her and Marissa Coleman, I wouldn't even consider any other member of that weak 2009 class. If we aren't picking #1 or #2, package the pick for a guard who can score without needing a bundle of screens to gain separation from her defender.

Well I have tried not to Post while Pissed but this effort is downright pathetic, Inexcusable and should be embarrassing to everyone associated with the Monarch Organization.

I have been Ditto-ing things posted all year long but Creative One gets the Ditto of the night. And I will take this one step further.

This is a poorly assembled ball club.
With all the Talent available in this draft and the FA market for the Monarchs to put a team like this on the Court is absurd. It is not like we don't have decent athletes. But this collection cannot compete against what has been assembled in the West. And I am not sure how they stack up in the East.
I lay this at Whiz's feet.
I am done with the excuses about DeMya's injury. We knew she was coming off an injury, there was a possibility she may not have been 100%. We also knew A-Dub wasn't close to starter material, we should have been looking for another vet post.
No major Improvements from Scholanda or Chelsea, Kara is giving basically what she is gonna give.
But our 3 guard situation is the worst of all. We knew we didn't have the lights out shooter on the wing, we chose to hang on to Kim Smith. And while vastly improved, still mediocre by Western Conference standards. Nicole has been a disappointment for a while. And she has no back up. None. She is either gonna give us a legit star or she needs to be packaged and moved for a high draft pick or a player. I am over her potential and inconsistancy.

This year was years of Whiz apathy in the making.

But I have to lay some blame on the coaching staff as well.
For this franchise to be Offensively Inept for this long makes no sense. NONE!!! This is on Coach Mo, Coach T and Shuman as well. I think Monarchs fans have been more than patient waiting for consistancy on that end. I for one am done hearing about how much energy the Defense takes out of our players. Especially since We can't seem to stop anybody anymore.
Am I calling for Jenny's head? No not just yet, cause I don't think she was given a full compliment of players to work with. But I think she is gonna have to show she can make better adjustments, cause it doesn't look good right now. I could deal with the losing, if they looked like they knew what they were trying to do. But they are getting beat and beat badly. Got to be pretty demoralizing. So she has her work cut out for her trying to keep this team together.
Speaking of Jenny...You know I hear about the grueling practices that Jenny Boo runs. And I wonder to myself, Just what the hell do they work on???
I know this sounds insignifiacnt, but personally I would like to see them change their warm up routine during shootaround. Instead of coming out and just shooting endless jumpshots for 45 minutes, perhaps do a run catch and shoot drill. Since getting separation seems to be a problem. Maybe if they actaully practiced it, they could execute it in a game time situation.

I would like to see some changes. At least look like as an organzation you are trying to correct the problem. If it means a trade then trade for someone.
Just do something.

I definitely agree that the coaching staff should take some heat for this team's performance, especially when we're getting blown off the court. Blowouts are the result of one of two things (or both): lack of preparation (coaches and players faults) or lack of weapons (general manager's fault). I don't think we're preparing for the games against these better teams (Sun, Storm, Shock) as need be, but I also don't think we have the talent it takes to keep up with much of the league. This team in its current form isn't going to defeat the Seattles or the LAs on a regular basis, but they should be capable of snatching up a win here and there.

the team is just not good at offense. our set patterns hardly get us good looks. we do not have a player that can create for herself. just watch the other teams, at least on offense, they get some sort of open shot. our shots are either contested by the opposing team or the shot clock. we seem to get stuck on the ball fake, then move then cannot get shot so pass then the player receiving the pass does the ball fake, the move, then cannot get shot so pass......then 20+ sec later unlucky player takes bad shot. sigh.

My update: we do have an Olympian (Lawson), but we still need someone capable of creating her own shot. Alana Beard, Jia Perkins, and Betty Lennox seem like the likely candidates to help solve that problem.

Can I just mention one or two of the bright spots from the game, well shoot...at least for me it was...

When Monarchs super fan Cisco Garcia got miffed at a call then stood up and stared down the ref that made it as the ref had to walk over near him to retrieve the ball that was near his feet. Then he turned around and looked at the crowd as if to say "AM I ALONE IN THINKING HOW #$%$ %$ THAT CALL WAS?!?!!??' That was about the biggest thing to get the ARCO peeps riled up.

Cisco is my hero. :)

The second (not in temporal order obviously) was Adrian's husband singing the national anthem. I snuck a peek to see how AWS reacted during the singing and she was playing it cool (until his rousing closing run that is), but her teammates were all beaming - especially Scho and Ticha.

Ok...I am done with this game and am back to trying to forget it ever happened...;)
