For those who attended the Portland game and saw with your own eyes our new rookies, could you please provide a scouting report on Reke, Caspi, and Brockman? Thanks.

Went to the game and here are my observations:

-Evans looks amazing driving the lane. He's got great body control, absorbs contact well and is a very good finisher (the bulk of his pts came on drives and FT's). He's also huge, very thick (that's what she said). Kind of a Mitch Richmond frame. but more muscular. He had a couple nice drive and kicks, but you can tell he is not a true PG as there is no real flow to the game when he running PG duties. His jump shot is atrocious. He has terrible mechanics and it is just a very awkward looking shot (think Mike James shot, but way uglier). Hopefully Coachie can fix that. That being said when he attacks the rim he is hard to stop, so once he develops a jump shot he is going to be very dangerous.

-Casspi is a lot taller than I thought. He looks pretty close to 7 ft. He brings energy and was not afraid to get on the floor. His jumper looked a little awkward (a little like Marion), but he seems pretty fluid for a guy that size. He has the makings of a lockdown defender with his length and tenacity. He hit one 3 pt fg and ran the floor well to finish a fastbreak with a dunk late in the game. Has pretty good potential. Kind of a cross between Marion and Nocioni.

-Brockman is going to be a fan favorite. He is tough nosed and goes after rebounds with authority. He's not very tall though but makes up for it with effort. Has a nice looking jumper and his FT stroke looks good as well. The bulk of his points came at the FT line.

They should be fun to watch this year, but the offense as a whole is going to look disjointed until Evans can become true PG.

Was Donte the same towel waving cheerleader we saw last year?

I'm wondering if he isn't as happy with his status as he thought he was going to be. His tweet's are less frequent and he doesn't say much about the game, and nothing about his performance. I hope he doesn't lose his enthusiasim because he's not performing like he expected. Plus, falling behind Omri in the rotation could crush his spirit.

Crush his spirit or give him the drive to get serious about improving. We'll see what his character is made of, that's for sure. But if Casspi's better, then Casspi should get the playing time. How would you like to be better, but your teammate gets the minutes in real games so he can "try to improve?" Donte has to show it in practice. And when he does a few minutes in a game, he'd better be ready.

As far as his tweets go, I believe the NBA has made it pretty clear they do NOT want players tweeting about their teams or the games.

As far as crushing his spirit goes, this is the NBA. If he's got the desire to win, he needs to do whatever it takes to get into the rotation. A report I read - I believe in the game thread - said his before-game regimen consisted solely of bouncing the ball of the background and dunking it. That is NOT going to endear him to coaches, teammates, etc.
