[Rumor] Scotto: Kings and Cavs discuss trading Ellis/FIBA Dennis/Bench Saric for De’Andre Hunter

PASS. Hunter doesn't do anything for us. Sure, getting rid of Schroeder is great but not at the expense of Ellis. Cleveland would have to throw in a 1st. Ellis for a 1st and Schroeder for Hunter (anything less than that Kings are getting screwed). I'm hoping this was leaked just to get other teams to up their ante.

This reported Cleveland deal doesn't even save us any money. Dennis Schröder is only owed $4.3 million in guaranteed salary in the 2027-2028 season. Spending an additional $10 million in 2026-2027 to save $4.3 million the following year makes no sense. It's the exact opposite of correcting a mistake, actually. Just bench Schröder and buy him out if you want to clear out space for other players.

Not re-signing Keon Ellis in order to ultimately trade him for Dalton Knecht would be right about on par with what we've seen from Scott Perry so far. Right up there with bringing in Westbrook and burying Devin Carter on the bench. If this is the kind of talent evaluation we can expect from this front office, get used to losing because they clearly have no concept of what it takes to win in this league.

My assumption is we'd flip Hunter.

If we didn't, then yeah, typical Kings type move.

Trading Ellis in part to get off the money the GM handed to Schroder this summer is peak Kings.

After we moved to Colorado it was the Beam Team that really kept me invested, but I'm really having a hard time justifying putting any time and energy into this team anymore.

I still hope the franchise can eventually hit a period of sustained success, but this season I've primarily just checked the box scores the next day to see if the King improved their lottery odds.

I thought we were trying to lose? I thought Keon Ellis alone was supposed to be worth a late first round pick? Hunter is 2 years older than Ellis and tacks on $25 million in salary for next season in exchange for two players that Perry himself brought in last year. This trade deadline remains absolutely the dumbest Kings plotline I've ever seen and there have been a lot of dumb ones over the years.

Ya and you’ll hear the excuses and people talking themselves into nonsense. Don’t forget we were supposed to get a first for Derozan in the summer and then it was a contender would be desperate at the deadline

We already have offers for multiple seconds for just Keon. Makes no sense to trade him AND a quality back up point guard for JUST Hunter. Despite kings fans feelings on him, Schroder is considered a quality guard and we have a whole year to trade him for value. A straight player for players swap actually adds salary for next year. If it doesn’t come with a first round pick I’ll take a better offer elsewhere.

For sure. It's a horrendous deal if he's not being rerouted to another team or if he's playing game 1 for us at the start of next season.

I’m just hoping the “frame work of a deal” is just the players and then we get a couple second rounders or better on top of it. We then have time to move Hunter. I could live with that kinda deal.

This is sort of my read. Especially with the Lakers reported interest in Hunter there's probably some sort of:

LAL gets: Hunter
SAC gets: Knecht/Rui/2+ 2nd round picks
CLE gets: Keon/Dennis/Saric

Gets you off the Dennis deal with the Rui expiring, we get a free look at Knecht and add draft capital. Pretty much exactly the deal a rebuilding team should be pursuing.

Welcome to the club….i haven’t lived in the sac area for almost 30 years. You may think distance will knock some sense into you, but yet this dumb team will always have a hold on me.
