The exit interviews all said "we need PG" so we got PG and it bombed. You can say this is genius or failure, the truth is it is neither but it gets us moving forward even if the timeline isn't fast enough for most.

But everything broken is a direct result of the disastrous double dip of Bulls talent we acquired in 24-25.

He is a 28 year old wing with length. People seem to forget we traded away Barnes and never replaced him. Now maybe we get one this draft but our most likely pick is Flemings.

Who cares if Monk is not a starting PG? Similarly, who cares if Domas or Zach effing LaVine want a PG? Why is the front office listening to players who aren't likely in the Kings' long-term plans in the first place?

The Houston Rockets never bothered to acquire a PG after Fred VanVleet went down and they're 4th in the brutally tough Western Conference with a .633 win percentage. If a successful, well-run franchise like that sees no value in adding salary and putting lesser veteran talent in front of its young, developing players, then the Kings are certainly in no position to be doing otherwise.

Again, this is where the Kings constantly err. They decide they "need" a PG, so they go out and add unnecessary salary that they'll ultimately decide to dump later instead of just trusting in their developmental program to determine what they have in the youth already on their roster by ensuring those players see significant time on the court.

Would it have been a mess to trot out a "PG" rotation of Monk/Nique/Carter? Probably. But again... who cares? What did anybody expect the Kings to even be playing for this season?! It seems like the Kings are consistently in the business of tanking the value of their own assets by refusing to commit to the ones that matter in the long-term.

I'm not thrilled about this move but really the net of this deal was we traded Keon for a wing. Perhaps sold the owner on a complete rebuild which was increasingly necessary after the failed (and actually devastating) 2024-25 season acquisitions. And if it doesn't work out its over after one season, which again right now are major problem seems to be immovable contracts nobody will take without us sending our picks to them.

Nothing to celebrate but I fail to see how this is anything of consequence IF Devin Carter proves capable of taking over the Keon role.

I don't disagree at all. I've definitely made that point repeatedly myself. I suppose it's a fool's errand to try and divine logic from the moves that were made last off-season. Whatever and whomever motivated their execution, it was striking stupidity on a small enough scale that it didn't do too much permanent damage (though Keon Ellis became a sacrifice all of this stupidity demanded). However, it was still moronic on a large enough scale that it absolutely makes me question the wisdom that this front office possesses. The best the Kings can hope for at this point is some plain old fashioned lottery luck. Then they really need to get to work acquiring some additional assets, instead of letting their own first rounders be the only hook on which they can hang their hopes.

Dude is gone. I don't get the sense that it was some irreversible mistake. We lost Keon and Schröder for Hunter, who we may get something out of next year. Then all that money is off the books. If Devin is a direct replacement for Keon that's two and a half years for defensive backup guard on a rookie scale contract. Cool cool.

This is up to DC to stick with what we saw last night and for his words after the game to hold actual meaning. This whole season has definitely been say one thing, do another. Now there is literally no reason not to play the young guys because blasting the others with minutes led to zero interest anyway. They've essentially wasted this entire season up to this point, but if they can get some development back with Carter, Clifford, Maxime, etc. then at least something useful was done with their time.

The unfortunate result is we just learned how bad a lot of contracts we thought were ok when we signed them are.

As long as we don't compound the error and we end up with a potential franchise talent in the draft we're going to be ok. I'm still torn on letting the vets help with the tank to secure that pick and balancing out the younger guys, but I don't think there is a single franchise talent on the roster right now, Keegan can at least hopefully be a piece when we get one. It's just really painful to process.

Since next year is likely lost as well I think I am going to hope that there is someone in the top 10 worth it in 2027 as well. Maybe if some next tier talent decides to stay behind and enjoy the college experience and their NIL we'll luck out. I think that it might pay off for someone who would go 8-20 in 2026 to wait and be a top 2027 selection if the NIL money is on par with their rookie scale salary. I don't really know what basketball NIL looks like compared to football, but the fact so many dudes in NCAAMB right now are petitioning to get their eligibility back after they had gone out, been drafted, and wound up in G-League suggests it is really friggin good.

Mistake 1. Not extending Keon

Mistake 2. Giving Schroeder a contract let alone a big chunk of which should have gone to keon (see number 1)

Mistake 3. Trading Valancunis

Mistake 4. Allowing the vets to play over the younger guys in a throw away season.

Mistake 5. Trading Keon and Schroeder while giving a 2nd round pick to get a mildly above average wing. Schroeder Keon almost had to be thrown in cuz he was pissed off by mistske 1 and mistake 4 and would never sign with us anyways so we basically bagged him away when im sure we could have gotten more for him than Hunter. At least with Hunter he could fit next to Keegan and be a good combination if he can stay healthy.

Im not so hurt about keeping Monk and Sabonis. I'm sorry we couldnt move on from lavine and DDR but not entirely surprised. Teams have bad competing have bad cap situations and no-one throws 1st anymore at past their prime former stars. We will likely have to buy out DDR to get off him to get under the cap but should come to a reasonable accommodation given his salary drop off next year.

Just terrible dealing all around. And i think teams smell the desperation from this organization. I couldnt imagine a scenario where younget minimum draft compensation for Fox (yes he had a hand in screwing us and could have at least held for a fair and equitable deal) but also not even finding a FRP for sabonis?!? Talk about insanity. Basically no-one want to be seen as striking an even deal with the kings cuz its the same as losing the deal. Cuz the stink from this owner and GM is rancid flesh and the otger GMs are the vultures to pick the bones.

Carter cannot as he is not long enough. But he can become Davion. However, if we end up fine he gets stuck behind Flemings.

Carter was playing where he needed to play. Stockton was the correct place to work on his transition to point guard.
