[News] Scott Perry is the new GM of Sacramento Kings

As much pushback as #3 is going to receive, this is the right thing to do. Doug was brought in to coach a below mediocre at best roster, not even a mediocre one, and had very little to work with, in my honest and humble opinion. The right thing to do here is to have a sit-down, lengthy, conversation (or multiple sit-down, lengthy, conversations) involving Vivek, Scott, and Doug. Scott leads, Doug is #2. Vivek is there just to listen, as he is the owner. Scott needs Doug's input on the type of roster Doug would feel comfortable coaching, and then they need to work together to go out there and acquire the pieces that most accurately fit that mold. Vivek shouldn't be the one telling Scott, "Hey, give Doug these players, and tell him to run with it...". Doug and Scott should be talking it out together, and be working together to bring the right pieces in so that Doug has the best chance to succeed.

Knowing the type of owner Vivek is, the right thing most likely will never even be discussed as being a possibility, so that leaves us, unfortunately, being stuck in some random, unpleasant, and uncomfortable, cycle.
Yes, he's not throwing Christie under the bus and to me he's affirming they are on the same page. As others have said, it's still somewhat of a mystery why Perry gave Christie a schizo AGE-YOUTH/ISO-NON ISO incoherent team to coach to begin with. Did Perry miscalculate? Did he think he could have his cake and eat it? Did he overweight the importance of veteran guidance to the youth at the price of lower development time for the youth? It's a mystery.

Today is a big day for college bowl games. Are there any football players the Kings could sign to play power forward?

Julius Peppers types.

Thats great, but then you sign 37 year old Russ, 32 year old Dennis, trade for 32 year old Saric and sign 28 year old Drew Eubanks to be your backup C.

Big problem with Doug and Scott is they say all the right things in pressers, but their actions are the exact opposite. Let's see if he can actually follow up on some of these promises at the deadline

The most interesting reporting here confirms what many of us had feared but couldn't quite prove: the impatient hand of Vivek Ranadive, who pushed the Kings to sweeten their deal for DeMar DeRozan so he could have his "Not Like Us" moment, who fired Mike Brown without consulting De'Aaron Fox, and who, after things went to sh*t with Fox, insisted on the Zach LaVine acquisition in spite of Monte McNair's apprehension. Then fired McNair after all of those chickens inevitably came home to roost.

If Kings fans want to understand why the Beam Team cratered so quickly and so dramatically, the answer comes up Vivek once again.

I am starting to believe they signed those players to stealth tank. Although I don't really understand the Dennis contract.

Yeah, I've long held the position that Monte was not in control of the decision making his last year here. I still believe DDR was a reasonable talent swing for the cost, despite the bad fit, but he was such a staunch ideologically different player than Monte would go for as a decision maker. The LaVine deal was incredibly easy to surmise that Vivek had his hands all over; instead of a full rebuild package, LaVine was the long coveted player from Vivek that could keep us competitive.

Yeah, and it's just... so unfortunate. So sad. So Kangz. I wasn't necessarily expecting a "full rebuild package" for Fox, because he had the Kings over a barrel, but I was certainly expecting more than the cap space that will eventually come from dumping LaVine in the summer of 2027. Oh, and a 2027 Spurs first rounder that figures to be in the late-20s. That's such a disappointing package for your franchise player, and I will 100% die on the "should have waited until the off-season" hill, because you're certainly not going to end up with a worse deal than Zach effing LaVine and draft picks that provide no basis to start a rebuild! I suppose the 2031 first rounder the Kings snagged from Minnesota in the trade could be pretty valuable, but its distance from now renders it a throw-in and does nothing to aid in the calculus of turning the page on the Beam Team era.

There's news out today that Rich Paul was/is driving the bus for Zach to go to Atlanta.

It was reported that Paul drove the bus that Zach was the return for Fox (by Vlade).

I know we hate this FO but the Spurs refused to entertain most reasonable trade offers for a player of Fox's caliber and if Paul has as much sway as reports suggest I want to at least give credit to whoever is pushing back and refusing to entertain Tre Young to Sac talk.

Have you watched Rich Pauls podcast? He’s unbearable, I could only imagine negotiating with someone as delusional as he is. And the reality is he has leverage because of how big Klutch is.

I don’t agree that trade offers no basis to start a rebuild. Nique, Max, 2 Charlotte seconds, an unprotected pick, the ability to free nearly 50 mil sooner instead of tying us into long term Vassell money. Had we kept Fox we might not be in position to get as high of a draft pick either.

In the end, this has probably worked out for the best (outside of firing Brown which I think was a mistake.) Had we kept Fox happy we would have given him a mega deal and we would likely be stuck in the middle. If we traded him in the offseason it was likely not going to net us a much better package. The market for point guards is not robust given most teams don’t have a need.

FYI: there was significant need at PG to start the season, including in Houston, where De'Aaron Fox is from. That's beside the point, however. I've said it many times now, but you exercise patience and operate from a position of strength for two primary reasons: 1) the play-in has effectively widened the pool of "competitive" teams every season, and thus there are fewer teams ready to deal significant assets at the deadline, especially with the thorny apron rules in place that make it more challenging to throw deals together rapidly. And 2) off-season events shake out in unexpected ways, particularly in a draft lottery that now features more flattened odds. Thus, team needs can change rapidly as the off-season progresses, creating new windows of opportunity that would not have been there at the trade deadline.

The only reason that Fox had the Kings over a barrel was because of his demand to be dealt to the Spurs, specifically. But that demand is based exclusively on mutual interest. The Spurs have to want Fox for that demand to hold any weight. If the Spurs defy mathematical odds and jump to, say, second in the draft lottery, where they intend to draft, say, Dylan Harper, maybe they decide that Fox is a luxury they don't need, rendering Fox's demand useless and opening the door to other franchises to bid for his services via trade. Or maybe it becomes easier to play hardball with the Spurs and demand Stephon Castle in return.

Patience could have yielded a more appropriate return for a talent of Fox's caliber, and the risk in waiting was minimal. As I said, you're not getting a worse package than LaVine and assorted low-value draft picks. All due respect to Nique and Max, as they're nice players who may very well have productive NBA careers, but I'm not sweating their absence if I've got a chance to flip Fox for either a more impactful young talent and/or higher value draft capital. It was not foolish to trade Fox given the deteriorating relationship; it was foolish to trade Fox in the manner he was traded and from a position of weakness.

This possible Kuminga trade can only be good if the price is cheap. Kuminga hasn't proven a thing. With the exception of 2022-23 where his 3 pt shooting was 37%, he's been stuck in the low 30s in his his 3 point percentage over the last five years. He's had five years to practice his outside shot, but it hasn't gotten better. In an age of 3 point shooting, that's nothing to crow about. His rebounding is just ok, averaging about one rebound every four minutes of play. And his BBIQ is at best average. In my observation of him he's certainly not at the Keegan level in his defensive play. His height at 6'7" is if anything a tad below average for the forward position these days. For God's sake don't spend a 1st round pick on this guy, this year or in future years. In sum, I like the general idea of trading for younger players who could have a potentially high ceiling, but I haven't seen enough from Kuminga to want him unless we get him on the cheap.

I like where we're at with Zach. Keep Tank God and he turns into an ender next season, which is either a decent trade asset, or something to hold on to for that year's FA period when his bloated contract is of the books.

If he pulls a Fox and starts playing like a sullen turd on purpose, well... That just makes the tank more powerful!

Rich Paul can **** off. Good on Perry.
