[News] Scott Perry is the new GM of Sacramento Kings

I dont know about Kuminga. While he fits the "buy a young player under value because he is in a bad situation" description, he really isnt elite in anything.
I would be okay with losing only monk for him, but i am sceptical about the fit with domas.
Lets see.
They try getting a young player with some kind of upside though, which is positive news.
He's an upgrade defensively so I think the idea is ultimately he replaces DDR with Keegan as the front court buffer to Domas or whoever is playing C and Keegan will get more shots under this scenario while Zach and Dennis are also going to be huge 3 pt threats. The bench pieces will all integrate nicely in this system too, and Eubanks can be Domas light while Maxime can bring even more shooting to the table.

While I'm reluctant to give up on Carter I see this as a pretty big swing with homerun potential. Especially if we can get rid of Deebo for a pick down the road.

KC compared Kuminga to Aaron Gordon Orlando days. Honestly didn't even think about that but makes so much sense.

Young, Immature, super athletic, wanted to be "the guy", questionable shooter, questionable defender, but all the tools if they'd just accept a role.

It wasnt until Gordon got to Denver that he became this amazing role player. If the Kings could get Kuminga to buy into that and work on his defense/3, that'd be amazing.

Why is the kid who won't buy into his role playing alongside a future 1st ballot HOFer going to suddenly "get it" when arriving in Sac of all places?

I'm not too enamored with trading for Kuminga. Seems like a dummy who can occasionally score in bunches.

I don't really judge anyone for not fitting in with Curry and Dray. The only thing they want out of guys is high level 3&D. Kuminga isn't that right now.

The comparison is really that Gordon in Orlando at age 22 was known as a guy who wanted to be a star. He wasn't concerned with playing defense and he sure as hell wasn't a good 3pt shooter.

Fast forward 5 years and Denver has one of the best role playing 4s in the league, capable of bringing the ball up the court, playing defense, getting out in transition, and acts as an enforcer.

Will Kuminga become that? Maybe not. But if the price is essentially Carter, most fans are happy to take that chance. If the price is Keon/Murray/or a 1st, most would rather pass. But he is 22 and the Kings are forward starved, he could become a long term solution next to Keegan/Sabonis.

I think Perry may be undervaluing Carter as well. He was barely healthy last season, and when he did play his counting stats were pretty meh, but eye test wise the guy popped when he was on the floor.

We still have guards on guards from the Monte days though, so I guess I can't get too mad about a trade that would make us bigger haha

Good point!

I see Kuminga as a go for broke option. Feast or famine. Only 22 years old and a huge upside, If he is as good we hope he is, you can have a star for the team long term potentially…..but you have to get him here first. Something The Kings have had difficulty with over the years.

Likewise. I'm viewing this through purely personal entertainment value. I will be much more interested in this team this year if I have some hope we have a young player that could blossom into a star. I love him, but I just can't put Keegan in that category anymore. Keon's development has been fun, but he's just a super valuable role player. I'll be rooting for our two rookies, but the odds aren't bad that neither are on the team in four or five years. Kuminga has enough natural talent and athleticism that he's at least got a shot.

But then if he stinks we're stuck with him, as it's going to be a sign and trade IIRC.

Don't get me wrong, I can see the appeal, it just doesn't appeal to me as much as others haha

I'll definitely root for Kuminga and hope for the best if he ends up here!

Because we literally have no other options.

If we give him a 2 year deal with a team option he is done when Zach is done and you can then either sign a better free agent or really tank.

Evaluating Perry so far is a mixed bag. I know there's still time but im not confident anything else happens.
The good -
Draft - traded into the 1st, got a 1st round talent in the 2nd.
Getting a 2nd in s&t with schroder
Holding firm (so far) in kuminga negotiations

The meh
Signing another guard - I like schroder but there's already a roster crunch at these spots. If we dont make any trades this goes to bad, if we do, I could see this going to good.

The bad
Keon enough said
Taking on saric for free when we could have let jval walk and cleared that $
Not addressing the forward spot at all. Lost laravia, lost jval. Added eubanks? Awful. I would have given yabusele 2/20 and a starting spot easily.
Derozan still being on the roster.

So far id give him a c-
That could easily change in the next week.
