Scott Perry is the new GM of Sacramento Kings

After listening to Sam Amick's reporting on the situation I have zero hope for this team going forward. The lowlights were:

Vivek was responsible for the DDR signing.
McNair "would have built the roster differently".
Ranadive is hoping to give Zach LaVine an extension.
DeRozan and Sabonis' agents want them out of Sacramento

I don't see ANY way that this team is ever successful with Vivek as the owner. You'd think after all this time he'd learn to stop meddling, but he just doesn't get it and never will.

I'll take a passing interest in what happens this summer, but barring some dramatic changes I'm likely tuned out for the duration of Vivek's ownership.

Vivek is looking like the second worst thing that could have happened to this franchise after an actual relocation.

I don’t know if Doug and Scott align and I want to know that they do. Scott, like Vlade appears to be a guy Vivek actually trusts so maybe he listens. I’m also not quite as convinced as you that Doug is a good coach. He could be, but I’m not ready to just hand him the keys. I’m hoping he is given his passion for the city and organization. If Scott and Doug are on the page and share a vision I’m cool with him getting the gig.

What is a good coach at this point? If you didn't lose your locker room after this season, that looks just like what the doctor ordered. If he's not a good x's and o's coach that will proven in time. He didn't make players look like garbage as I brought up. That's good enough IMO. That's the most important thing in a reset. Just don't **** it up. If you're mid? Fine, good enough.

If they don't want to reset? Good luck, because a great x's and o's doesn't justify hampering the future at this point even if it ended up succeeding. Even going there is too much of a gamble and ironically Vivek as an owner has gambled even more than the Maloofs did, it's time to stop and plan for the future.

I still think Doug will be what you want him to be. He's all in. From his playing days to now, he'll do his best to do what is asked. Besides you can get x's and o's out of anyone, DC looks to be a pretty decent delegator. The worst thing that can happen right now they go get another Karl, who has the name and history, but comes in with an idea that it's their way or the highway. The Kings are too far away from contention if the results have any say.

This year, probably not. Chicago was able to escape the contract because Fox burned his trade value on purpose and SA didn't have salary filler and didn't want to give anything up for a player they were going to get sooner or later anyway. The Kings had a gun to their head and obviously Vivek prefers reloading to rebuilding - Zach was the available reloading option.

Find another team with a gun to their head, maybe you can offload the contract. But I assume he's here for at least one more year if not both on the deal. Can't imagine he opts out.

So he's ours, and he's actually a decent player, just overpaid, and we need to figure out how to build around him because you know that Vivek doesn't want to bottom out. That's the situation. I don't care if people like it or if they hate it or what, that's what it is.

I was thinking about this yesterday, would you trade Lavine straight up for MPJ like Denver was allegedly interested in doing? Had you asked me at the time I would have driven Zach to the airport. After some more thought, I asked myself why? Zach was a better shooter this year, MPJ better career percentage, both amongst the best in the league. Both considered poor defenders. Lavine the much better scorer. Both with injury questions. MPJ is younger but with more money left on the books. I think ultimately I landed on having Lavine over MPJ due to the contract.

a long winded way of saying I think Lavine has a deal we could move at the deadline if needed.

Dlo bringing the fire and his show hasn’t even started.

Said he stood next to Monty for 10 min last night and that Monty knew he was getting fired. And that this whole hire was done by one person.
Vlade.
And he said he dares anyone on the front office who he knows is listening right now to call Up and tell him he’s wrong. He said Vlade knows no one around the league and that he called up the one guy he knew and that’s who the kings hired. This was all set up before it actually happened.

He also said Vlade holds a more damaging role today than he had as GM because now he has zero accountability. He still holds court with the kings but only informally. Oh man, this team is more of a dumpster fire than I thought!

McNair had a chance to build his own roster and he sat on his whole thumb for a season. I get why Vivek got impatient.

Given the present value of professional sports franchises they are all owned by billionaire egomaniacs who are going to put their stamp on things. I think we're never going to have an owner we like.

True. Had the team been moved to Seatle and rebranded to the Supersonics, I'd have been gutted.

I'll always be grateful to Vivek and David Stern for working to keep the Kings in Sacramento.

But enough is enough. This is just blatant malpractice and incompetence.

Or the pieces he did get (Sasha) wound up in Mike Brown’s doghouse to the point they just gave up on being in the NBA lol

Sasha was in Mike Brown’s doghouse because he wasn’t an NBA player. I dislike a whole lot of what Brown did, but his handling of Sasha wasn’t one of them.

This team has problems... whether it is the owner or GM I don't know. The roster moves where almost all the starters don't play defense is a huge question mark. Either Lavine or DeRozen have got to go... otherwise there is no hope of improving the defense. Like I said before, the only way these players get to start is if you surround them with defensive players.

Well we know now that all the people abandoning ship were probably allowed to leave because it was already determined this was getting flipped over.

Brown was part of the sales process and didn't give him a chance.

Maybe Brown should have pushed a different direction? Oh, he played the hell out of Duarte who is also not an NBA player.

I am shocked to learn that a new hire who was announced hours after the previous firing with no interview process was set up ahead of time. Who could have guessed that?

Makes a difference if you look at the big picture. Why the hell did the front office let Monty do the Fox trade. He didn’t do the Fox trade. If you like to connect the dots to who’s really running the show it makes a difference.

If Jerry Buss’s weird nepo-baby daughter can actually field a competent team, it’s only fair that Vivek’s daughter can do the same with the Kings!
I'm not for it but it sure seems like it will happen if he kicks the bucket. My issue with the whole thing is nobody gives the other owners' children the same criticism when they get involved in over their head. Stupid Kroenke kid the latest example, but hardly the only other notable one.

How many of the other nepo babies took a G-League job? Honest question.

I don’t have a problem with Perry. He was here for literally a cup of coffee last time.

He’s in a tight spot. An endless game of Tetris where the blocks have been stacked all wrong but keep stacking instead of the game resetting
Nice analogy.

Perry’s main job this summer is apparently just going to be to rubber stamp eveyrhting to bring this same roster back next year lol

If running it back is the lesser of two evils great. If they make a run for a "name" and damage the future to do it based on these results it's over. They'll likely have to wait out the next 2-3 years to even start a 4-5 year rebuild if and when that doesn't work. If the Kings keep their youth/picks off the table they should be able to get back to square 1 by next offseason and be clear by 2027 in a worst case. If it's a run it back, let Lyles walk. Put Jones in that spot, the drop off won't be the difference between jack and **** and Jones might already be better, lets see. No stupid MLE signings either. Maybe a vet PG, but nothing major.

My god

If we trade Deebo for a PG or PF (or legitimate SF that pairs nicely with Domas and Keegan) of any quality level it would bring a ton of balance back to the roster.

But Domas and Zach have to learn to play together.

...and Monk probably has to come off the bench...

I am willing to roll with Malik as my starting lead guard. I might look to sign Chris Paul as an assistant coach of some sort to mentor him but I think Malik has the right instincts and mentality.

getting a good coach to coach up both Monk and Carter has to be the priority. People forget a Monk / Ellis backcourt was pretty good.

Zach needs to come off the bench is we can’t trade him.
