Sacramento held hostage: Day 8

What a joke. This is a big thing that a coach is great with fans and can hang out with the Maloffs, forget Rick Adelman's record, that is only a minor detail.

I guess anything can happen when you are filthy rich from your daddy's money. My mommy wants to talk to you next, then my sister, etc etc.

Grow some cahones Joe and Gavin and make the decision yourself. You guys are the ones who got us Ron Artest. I doubt their mommy cares, they have plenty of $ making $ in lots of other places other than basketball.

Basketball probably doesn't even make that much money for them, seeing how they can't even afford to build an arena for the team to play in but they could afford to build The Palms. Which makes it even more ridiculous that the whole family has to get involved.

The Palms makes in 2 or 3 weeks what an arena makes in a year so that's comparing apples and oranges. The Palms is pretty modest by most casino standards, its claim to fame is all the crappy reality series and some clever marketing which is somewhat unfortunate because it used to be a lot nicer place to stay.

Actually, the Kings have been a money loser for the most part. I can't find the post right now, but I quoted some figures a while back re: the Kings losing money something like 5 of the first 7 years with the Maloofs for a total loss of about $26 million dollars.

One of the biggest benefits financially to the Maloofs have been the ad/atmosphere tie-ins between the Kings and the Palms. With the added publicity/fame for the Palms because of the visiting NBA players and other sport stars, the casino has done well.

I think they were the first casino to cater to the "larger" crowd with bigger beds, showers, etc, to attract the sporting crowd.

The Kings make them very little, if any, profit, especially averaged with the losses they incurred early.

And you don't take profits in one business and keep sinking it into another without good reason - shareholders in the profitable business just don't really care as much about the one they are not invested in. They want their profits.

The maloofs have always done things as a family - all major decisions go through the entire group. It helps prevent being TOO impulsive in decisionmaking.
