And Artest explodes(sort of)

Kings forward Ron Artest says his time in Sacramento has been as enjoyable as any he has spent in the NBA.
Artest also says, though, that as he has looked around recently, he feels he won't be with the Kings much longer.
"I look around our team, and I see the emerging young stars, and I don't get the sense that I'm going to be around," said Artest, who recently said he plans to opt out of his contract during the offseason. "I don't have a real commitment from the Kings, and it might just be time to move on. But for now, we want to finish out this season and try to make a run at the playoffs. I definitely feel like this is going to be either the last or next-to-last season with the Kings.

Thanks for killing your trade value Ron!!!!

What trade value lol

I dunno, but it just seems like he's killing whatever leverage Petrie had left in a trade. Also this seems like he's throwing his teammates under the bus. The team finally has a chance to get itself over .500 in the next couple weeks with the 5 game homestand, and some momentum(even though I rather get a good draft pick you got to think about it from his teammates point of vew) and he puts the spotlight all on himself AGAIN, for the umpteenth time in his career. The guy should stop being so selfish and STFU. I mean come on. God I hope we trade him soon.

He said nothing bad. Sounds like hes bummed we're not feeding him promises. Just RonRon talk, ignore him.

Before he suggested that he was opting out, now he says that this is either his last year in Sac or his next to last. I have to regard it as a minor improvement. And he's said nothing to suggest that he'd opt out if elsewhere. I'm not sure that this story hurts his (slight) trade value at all.

Artest is simply saying what Petrie follows up by adding some details. Seems like the most likely trade partner is with Denver for Nene, a steady 6 and 6 player recovering from testicular cancer with a slightly higher salary that is up in 2011 with a player option for 2012.

Well, if Denver wants to give us Nene Hilario, I'll bite...that guy is a beast, and I think he's just had some bad luck injury-wise, but he's still young, and I think he has his best days ahead of him. Do it Geoff!!

edit: oh, and if a trade is to happen in the next few weeks involving Ron, I have nothing but praise for the man, he's been a great influence on our young guys since day one when he got here, even through his marital issues, and while he had some extracurricular distractions, still gave 110% almost every night. Players...and people in general, get frustrated from time to time, but it doesnt help when you have everyone jumping down your throat about it. Anyways, thanks for all you've done the last 2 years for us Ron!:)

I'd like to know a little bit more about his cancer. The cure rate is not 100%.

I don't like that trade. Sure, it gets rid of Artest, however, Neno is very injury prone.

Yeah, it's definitely scary, for sure. But hopefully they seem to have caught it in time and it wont be a long term sort of thing that keeps relapsing...hopefully:) He is definitely a beast, when he's given the playing time to showcase his abilities.

I posted this in another thread as well, but it bears repeating here, I think:

Unlike the Kings, they're in a playoff push, not a rebuilding phase. Four of their starters are 30 years or older, limiting the time to capitalize on a nucleus of Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby. Artest, who by NBA standards is paid a relatively reasonable $7.4 million, would immediately improve their perimeter defense, enhance their low-post game and add experience in the tightly contested Western Conference.

In return, Petrie is thought to be interested in a package consisting of young players and veterans with expiring contracts, including promising forward Linas Kleiza ($2.82 million through next season) and Eduardo Najera, whose $4.9 million deal expires this summer. He also remains intrigued by the New York Knicks' David Lee, an Isiah Thomas favorite who is said to be unavailable. Or he could simply allow Artest to complete his contract and pursue a sign-and-trade during the offseason.

"I look around our team, and I see the emerging young stars, and I don't get the sense that I'm going to be around," said Artest.

I wonder if Mike feels the same way? He was out for a long time and then the team started to click without him and Ron.
