Rudy Gay

His effort does come and go.

Now, he's got everything in the world to play for. I have no worries he will produce at a high level this year.

I'd be more concerned once he gets the money. But it's not like we have a choice. He's what we have. If we lose him whatever it is we are building dies an abrupt death.

If we lose Rudy, it will follow the pattern of losing Tyreke and IT. Now, I must admit I was not crushed by losing either of the other two but I WOULD be crushed if we lost Rudy. This assumes a great year from Rudy, of course.

I agree and I am a bit nervous of giving him the money too.

Oh well, like you stated - it is not like we have a choice. We are running out of time and cannot wait to gamble waiting for another Rudy Gay in the next draft to pair with Cousins. Cousins will be gone for sure if he does not get that help. He is smart enough to figure it out for his own good.

Let us just hope that along the way, Rudy Gay feels that urge to WIN a championship (rather than just playing good for the sake of playing good) before his skills leave him.

I was actually crushed when we lost Tyreke Evans.

Imagine if we still have him.

Cousins, (Evans/Moreland/Thompson/Landry), Gay, Tyreke, Collison.

I think that is a very competitive line-up. Certainly a play-off team and maybe more than just a "pretending" championship team if allowed to simmer for 1-2 years.

Not being on the same level as LeBron James or Kevin Durant is hardly the biggest problem a SF can have. There's a hell of a demarcation between the first tier and the second tier, but I would hesitate to name five better small forwards in the game today: James, Durant, George, Anthony (I guess?), aaaaand... ?

I, too, wonder about whether he'll sustain once he signs his next contract, however.

I think he will sustain it. If he signs with Sac it will be because he believe that with Cuz he can go deep in the playoffs so he will be bringing his A game. He won't sign with the Kings just to cruise through a fat final contract... if he wants to do that, he will do it in a more fun city.

I wonder if we can convince him to sign under 70 million on that extension so that way the team is left with some type of flexibility to add more pieces to fill out the team properly.

Did you hear Cousins' comments after the game? He's totally sold on Rudy...and what Boogie wants, Boogie gets. I think they forged a bond during FIBA that Rudy knows he cannot possibly duplicate anywhere else. It's not about the money as much as loving your job - and right now, Rudy is seeing what it's like to have fun at work. :)

yep talk was demarcus was signing in the shower after the game, its so very important to win against denver and ingrain some of this happiness which has always been short lived in relation to wins and the general locker room sentiment. Sign Rudy up and get us another good solid piece and we're well on our way. Bring the fun back to the kings.

What is weird is how flat he was opening night. But he sure shook it off quick

His "second wind" showed up right on time. In his interview after the second game, he was asked about the busy summer and he said that was "gased" after it all. Probably emotionally and mentally drained more than just physical...in terms of minutes played etc.

Anyhow, he snapped out of whatever it was and looks to be back to what we were seeing after the trade last season

It's been my observation that guys who are looking for a big contract and then lay back do not try so hard to get on team USA, and risk not playing their contract year. they also don't tend to be great team players that year. So far Rudy looks like the guy who want to win more than anything else and will do WHATEVER it takes to do that. DMC and the guys just have keep creating that opportunity here.

They were playin around during SL too. I think their personalities must mesh. They were both very nice interacting w fans.

I haven't been a great Rudy Gay fan, but the man is playing superb basketball for the Kings. I don't think that he has ever been better. Right now he is among the 5 best SFs in the league and in my opinion not the 5th among them.

It sounds like he's also experiencing a lot of family support, respect from the community, and all the intangibles that play into the decision-making process of a mature person.

I don't get the tv coverage of the Kings here in the Midwest, but from what I am seeing Rudy appears to be a very "authentic" leader. He is who he is, doesn't feel the need to profile and puff himself up, just goes out and gets the job done in a mature fashion. He seems grounded and self-aware, which makes it all the more surprising that he's as young as he is.

I don't think Gay is a vocal leader although I presume when (if ?) he speaks, people listen. This is why I think he is a perfect wingman to Boogie. I doubt if Gay is comfortable as a leader. I said this all last season. If we are looking ahead to the end of the season, I think his skill, his demeanor, and even his lack of leadership fits well with the Kings and Boogie in particular. He could score in the high 20's with IT gone. Perhaps he needs to score that much. I really like Rudy as uninspiring as he seems to be. :) He's a smooth athlete and that wingspan adds a whole lot to his game around the rim. Let's see how the team evolves. I hope the trading has subsided and we let this team get used to each other for awhile. This assumes a great deal doesn't fall into our lap.

If Nik begins to drain threes, we will have a nice top three in scoring, each with the effect of making the other guy's scoring game easier. I'm happy so far. I must admit it's hard to knock me down. ;)

Do we have links to those post game interviews? Couldn't find them on kings.com.

None WHATSOEVER. One of the smoothest scorers I have seen in a long time. Just has a very nimble agile skill around the rim and he has a limitless collection of finger rolls and floaters that just cant be defended. When he is on he is unstoppable one on one. Has an outside shot that keeps um honest and if he gets hot from outside watch out! He could easily go for 50 if he is hitting on all cylinders.

Does have a tendency to be a bit ball dominant at times. Has good handles but not great and can get a little loose with the dribble especially at the top of the key in. Has a tendency to loose the dribble in traffic at times.

But he is a very skilled player and a borderline allstar caliber player.

You need to get out more often; I'll take Bennett and Rice over Napear and Reynolds every day of the week.

I wouldn't.

I have watched enough of the ticket to see most of the announcing crews on the TV side and you come to a conclusion pretty quickly watching the ticket. There are some real clowns announcing NBA games around the league. Some of the homers are so bad that they need pom pom's and a whistle.

While Jerry and Grant NA-PEAR are not flashy, they are consistent. They want the home team to win but they are objective and Grant is concise and accurate. Jerry is a color man and he is very COLORFUL. I COULD NOT STAND when they had that BUFFOON Walton on the telecast. He is a burnt out hippy dufus. Spouting out totally non sequitur diatribe. Kinda stuff that makes you yell at the TV " Nobody gives a CRAP about that BILL !! SHADDUP !!! " Stupid Laker Lover !

Our announcing crew on the TV and Radio are in the top 5 or 10. Gary Gerald has been so great for so many years. He's getting a little blond but I spent SO MANY years as a teen lying in my bed listening to Gary paint the picture in my mind so very clearly every possession and play. Hanging on his every word. I'll put up with him being a little blond these days :)

This statement is only half-right. Gary Gerould is great. Napear and Reynolds are not.

I presume that by "the ticket," you mean NBA League Pass? Well, I'm no stranger to League Pass myself, so I'm not sure why you would assume otherwise. I've been on League Pass since 2002, I've heard every announce team in the NBA dozens, if not hundreds, of times. Napear and Reynolds stink, in my opinion. I personally put them in my bottom ten: Heinsohn/Gorman, Reid/Fiorentino, Land/Elliott, Bolerjack/Harpring, Funk/King, Worrell/Drexler. That's it, that's the list. I have Napear and Reynolds in strong as the seventh-worst announce team in the league, IMO.
