Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof, who would have to commit to a potentially complicated legal process and/or potential trade scenario if Geoff Petrie identifies Rubio as his NBA Draft Day target (at No.4), are flying in from Las Vegas early Wednesday to watch the 18-year-old run through some drills during an early afternoon workout. Details of the session are unclear, though apparently it won't be too extensive. Rubio recently finished his EuroLeague season and has been taking a break physically. Nonetheless, I am sure Petrie and new Kings coach Paul Westphal are curious for a closer peek.

Petrie generally doesn't draft players who don't work out. I'm loving that we were able to talk him into it. Maybe we are the only team he works out for? That would send a message to OKC and Memphis. Even so, I think the teams above us have pretty much cemented the names in their draft board at this point. We don't because PG is a great need for us, but at this point I'm not sure team visits will really change the minds of Wallace or Presti.

From what I've been hearing, I wouldn't be totally shocked if he worked out for OKC too. They're young, promising, and not in Memphis. Just the same, I have to agree that we seem to have the inside track, for being as late as 4th.

Still, I'm hoping that we won't all have our hearts so set on picking him at #4 that there's rioting and looting on draft night if he goes earlier. Whether Memphis is planning on trading him or not, they might pick him, and it might be hours before we know whether he's headed to Sac or not.

Anyway, consider this an appeal to not get it totally decided in your heads that we're getting Rubio. If we do, I'll be very happy about it, but if we don't, I'd rather not see 500 posts full of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Save that for if Rubio's available, but Geoff picks Jrue Holiday instead.

Just sayin'.

I predict that will happen no matter who we do or don't draft. ;)
