Ron Artest

I just wanted to add for those that didn't see...in the post-game interview with Ron, he looked truly, undeniably happy for the first time I've seen him speak. He seems honored that Rick would, off the bat, put this much faith and trust in him to do what he can do out there. He mentioned Bibby really embracing him when he first arrived, and how the entire team has become friends.

Of course, winning cures all, but...I think Ron's finding out what Webber found- it really ain't bad in Sacramento. I found myself having glimpses of the team we could maintain for years to come if we built around Artest, but I had to stop myself...because...well, you still just never know with the guy.

All I can say is for now, I am incredibly grateful for Ron Artest, and the boost he brought to our team the second he put on the jersey. They've made this season exciting again, and now we're right back in the thick of things. Regardless of what the result of this year turns out to be, I think we will all remember what is going on right now for many, many years to come.

9/10 Kings Fans agree- It's all because of Ron Artest.

u know...i was seriously thinking about starting a thread talking about something very similar....

people are so concerned about ron doing this or that....going nuclear here or there....but theyre not really considering what all has happened and why....

ron was 22 year old when he was traded to the pacers....ron is not the same person he was back then....rons not even the same person he was a couple years ago....early on he lead the league in flagrant fouls and was just generally a misfit with an anger issue more often times than not....those things took their toll....especially on his teammates....they were privy to all those things and had to experience them first hand.....

so even when ron finally starting doing much better and maturing as both a human being and a player...not to mention becoming a better person inside due to therapy, there was still so much baggage in the lockerroom.....that generally it was an unhappy place that was full of tension....so despite his flagrants being a distant memory...despite his temper being kept in check....despite him being a much better ball player, things were actually pretty far gone to the point there would always be that tension....

thats not the case in sacramento....hes happy....and just as important, his teammates and coaches are happy....they didnt lose millions of dollars and go thru criminal trials....

realize this...and this is important.....in indiana, he was a part of a lockerroom that if given a choice a majority of the guys would prefer he not be there.....many of them were simply bitter because of things that had happened and what it had cost them personally....

thats not a recipe for success....

hes now in a place he wants to be and a place that others want him....

hes happy....happier than hes probably ever been in his basketball life....hes a better person now....a much more stable person now....hes not the 22 or 23 year old ron artest...hes the 26 year old ron artest that has been thru a helluva lot and now is in a much better place....hes not that wound up player that had been winding and winding up for quite some time, and every trip to the lockerroom was just another twist on the tension rope....

hes relaxed...moreso than hes ever been....now hes able to be the most intense player on the court, but is able to walk off the court and into a lockerroom that is a great place to unwind-instead of a pressure cooker that probably exceeds what was going on on the court.....

hes a happy ron artest...hes a relaxed ron artest....and hes been thru so many learning experiences-some very drastic and painful-that hes got a special appreciation for where hes at....hes a simple guy...

and that guy that some of u are a bit worried about simply doesnt exist anymore....because his environment is different and because hes different....

I think part of it might be that Ron (IMHO) has been given the "reigns" more here. The Kings put the ball in his hands and let him know he is one of the Big Dogs on the team, that he's an integral part of it, and he needs to be a leader.

I just get the impression that that is something that is important to Ron and something he was looking for.

thats all apart of it....believe it or not, though people said the right things, ron was not respected on the offensive end of the court by his teammates or his coaches....did u notice his comments in the postgame show last nite??? he said he never really thought he would be given the opportunity to play a point-forward type of position....

you couldnt help but get the feeling that the coaching staff looked at ron on the offensive end as more of a burden than a blessing....those that truly understand carlisle understand why i say this....

and even moreso, when a bucket was really needed, especially at the end of the game, rons number rarely got called....

like i said...hes just in a happy place right now......and all hes been thru enables him to have a special appreciation....

he simply is nothing like the player from a few years ago that many like to reference....nor is the lockerroom anything like the one he left...

Hmm, that kind of makes me wonder if adding someone like KG would harm Artest's attitude...

I don't know but, if we were still looking for a bigger PF then maybe we can settle for a PF that is willing to take a backseat rather than a leader role. I had my doubts about KT, but this team is gelling like I never imagined. I think we should try this roster out for awhile and maybe leave the PF talk out of any talk. I think KT fits the bill right now. Not only that we have Reef off the bench, not a bad 2nd choice for PF in my opinion.

I've been a Kings fan for a long time and never have I bought a "player's" jersey until last night. The player jersey # is 93.

I love reading about all of this... After Last night I feel confident that Ron is a super star, who can take us to the very top of the league. This team plays some gooood D. Never thought I would see it. This team would have swept seattle last year...

I didnt think that Ron could carry the load, and a mere Defensive only PF is what we needed to contend... but maybe its the truth... a PF who blocks shots and rebounds every night... who is athletic... can make this team legit contenders... I dont belive we should just let this team go and see how it does... that wastes years of contract and age. We shall see how this post season goes... but I dont see KT s the PF on a championship team. maybe i am wrong... he does have a ton of will and heart.

thats why i had mentioned that i thought skinner should actually be starting....he wasnt perfect, but he was an inside presence, solid rebounder, solid defender, and decent shotblocker....

ive said this a couple times....the kings are so close to being a very, very good defensive team....with a healthy bonze and garcia in the midst, ur just a defensive oriented pf away from that....as i noted before, with the better defense on the perimeter now, plus artests intensity, miller has regained his defensive edge and is now a more than adequate defender for his position-especially given what he does on the other end....

this team is so close to shutting teams down, while still being able to score that its very intriquing....and i truly think its just so different from what most kings fans are accustomed to that its still a bit foreign to some-let alone the impact it would have...

I was really hoping someone would start this thread in my totally unexpected absence.

First, to clarify - having a battery-operated radio doesn't work. I can only get ONE Sacramento station in my area and KHTK isn't it. I had KFBK on all day, listening to all the hype and trying desperately to think of a way I could get the game without power.

When I finally remembered the little teeny tiny battery-operated black-and-white TV, I was ecstatic. Then came "The Hunt for the Batteries." By the time I was finished, I had no working flashlights and the two wall clocks were still, their stony hands mute testimony to the sacrifice they had given.

I wasn't able to see the game clearly but in what could only be described as some kind of cosmic gift from Mother Nature, I was able to pick up enough of the signal from News10 to see a bunch of blurry little things moving around and the sound came in fairly well.

Other than my TV and my occasional screams of joy, it was pretty quiet in the forest. It was a good night to be a Kings fan. I missed all of you!

I had a little B/W tv in my room I used to watch the Miracle on Ice (men's Olympic hockey team of years ago) when I was a kid in the same way - hoping the folks didn't come in and turn it off. :D
