Reggie Bush

#1
It is 10:20pm PST on a Saturday night. And I am sitting up watching Reggie Bush clinch the Heisman Trophy.

15 carries, 258 yards, almost 400 all purpose yards, 2 spetacular touchdown runs of 45 and 50 yards. And I am not talking about ho-hum runs. I am talking about off the hook, Sportscenter highlight runs.

This dude is absolutely the best. Every time he touches the ball, I am entertained. And I am not even a college football fan. But every time SC is on I have to watch Bush play. If you live on the east coast, you are missing something special.

Run Reggie Run!!!

Reggie Bush is absolutely insane, Heisman or not. I get a sense as the season goes on the Bush will go at no 1, and Leinart might fall somewhere between 5-10, even lower if someone else decides they like Brady Quinn and/or Vince Young more. All this consensus this, consensus that talk just seems way too superficial right now, especially considering that the highest drafting teams already have their QBs- SF, Houston (assuming they don't give up on Carr), Green Bay, Tennessee (McNair still has some life in him and Billy Volek looked solid last year- they would probably look for an impact player elsewhere), and New Orleans (although they could go after Leinert to put an end to the Brooks era, but they drafted a good QB last year-whats his name?) Baltimore and Arizona seem to have the most clear-cut need, but would the Ravens give up on Boller so soon? I doubt it. That means 8 top teams could pass up on Leinart all together- maybe Arizona takes Quinn, another team takes Young- Leinart could fall pretty far (although I seriously doubt anyone takes Young over Leinart, but this is just for the sake of argument) Bottom line- draft this year will be very interesting. Heres to a Bush-Gore backfield in SF.

I would love to see him in SF although I don't think it will happen. Either way that Kid is amazing, 500+ all purpose yards in one game is just silly. Against a ranked opponent no less. just amazing.

Reggie Bush is an amazing player, and he makes plays on the college level, but he's largely overrated as a running back. He can't run between the tackles, and as fast as he is, he's not going to be able to consistently get outside on NFL defenses.

Or I could be wrong, and he might be the next coming of Barry Sanders.

He's either going to be one of the most spectacular players of all time, or he'll be a bust.

Superman I was actually wondering the same thing yesterday. Is Reggie Bush going to be a stud RB or another Heisman flop in the NFL.

He is going to most likely go to a team with a horrible line, that just came off a horrible season. To his credit he mostly creates his own yardarge and opportunites. He is about the same size as some of the good RB's in the NFL well give or take 20 lbs so thats not going to be much of an issue.

The O-line is extremely important, I don't care who you are. I'm not sure Barry Sanders would look any good behind the current 49ers line, so I will be perfectly happy to deal our top pick for a lot of talent or later picks.

USC has an incredible line which plays as one. Its going to be tough in the NFL but there is no doubt he has the raw talent and tons of potential. He can put on some muscle weight once hes in the NFL and compete with the big guys but he cant do it alone. If he goes to SF then there may be a problem. It would be nice to see Smith and Bush back there but SF must attempt to strengthen the line this offseason. Its hit or miss for a lot of college studs. Some just cant make it in the bigs. Like superman said, he will either be a bust or he will be one of the best in the league and possibly of all time.

Bust or not, he is one of the best college players of all time. The man is amazing. Its as if he is Barry Sanders in his prime playing against high school football teams. Although I am a CAL and UW fan I love watching this guy and USC play football.

Barry Sanders played behind a pretty crappy line for much of his time in Detroit. That's why I always thought Barry was better than Emmitt Smith...Smith ran behind arguably the best line in football. Barry didn't have that luxury.

That said, we won't know what Reggie Bush is capable of in the NFL until he's playing in it. But I agree with you...if the opportunity to make some great deals arises, jump on it. There will be A LOT of teams interested in the top few picks this year.

I don't know. Do you have any compromising pictures of Dr. York and farm animals we might be able to use to influence his decision?

I'm sorry. I'm just getting desperate. I have to face a Cowboy fan AND a Seahawk fan on Christmas eve. It's not going to be pretty...

Ah...don't worry about it. Both of those teams have spent PLENTY of time in the toilet.

Bush absolutely had an amazing night on Saturday, and really should have clinched the Heisman, but sadly, he didn't. For one, the game wasn't being broadcast nationally (I think...) and for another, it was a late night game, so at least some of the voters on the east coast didn't see how amazing his runs were. Also, I still think Bush and Leinart will split votes, and may even lose some to Lendale White, so my guess is Vince Young or some dark horse will come through with a Heisman win. As we've seen over the years, Heisman glory means nothing for future success, so at least Bush won't miss out on anything. He for sure will have an awesome NFL career, and I think he will be stupid to not come out of college this year instead of next.

I'm a Cal fan who is very anti-USC (no offense meant...) and even I am saying USC RB Reggie Bush should win. To me, that in itself proves he at least should be 1 or 2 in the voting.

Then again, I very much dislike Texac because of last year's BCS situation, so my "hatred" (not really) is spread evenly between the top three candidates...

I think Bush will win the Heisman this year.

With that said I took a look at the last 10 years of Heismans:

2004: Still at USC
2003: Jason White - Where did he go?
2002: Carson Palmer - So far Stud
2001: Eric Couch - DUD
2000: Chris Weinke - DUD
1999: Ron Dayne - DUD
1998: Ricky Williams - Toss up so far
1997: Charles Woodson - Average +
1996: Danny Wuerffel - DUD
1995: Eddie George - Stud...

Next stud heisman 1988 Barry Sanders then pre 88 tons of heisman studs. Just looking at history not saying Reggie will be a dud or a stud. Intersting to see what has happened recently to the heisman winners.

just a couple corrections...

2002: Carson Palmer - DUD gone STUD
1998: Ricky Williams - STUD (when he wasnt smoking the grass)
1997: Charles Woodson - STUD (Raiders best defense player, game changer)

I also think Bush will win. I thought that if Vince Young had a huge game today that he would win it but he didnt so I think that unless Bush plays like crap vs UCLA he will win it.

How come nobody's talking about Brady Quinn and Drew Olson? Both are having better years than Leinart, and the fact that Bush plays for such a loaded team should shift some votes away from him.

I'm not saying he shouldn't win, but the other two don't get any publicity.

Just took time to develop, can't hold that against him.

And I am very suprised that no one took on Jason White. Last I heard he got cut from the Chiefs' training camp. Lots of teams would do well to at least look at him- Detroit, the Jets, Miami, Buffalo, Baltimore, Oakland...SOMEONE has to at least give him a chance.

I'd be very surprised to see anyone else even come close in the votes. From the little I've seen of him, but read a lot, he's incredible and he deserves it. Having said that I'm rooting for the Bruins to pull the upset.
