Randy Moss to be traded to Oakland

It's on the ESPN News Ticker right now.

Just two days after the Vikings' owner-to-be said he didn't want to trade Randy Moss, the team agreed to do just that.

According to a report in the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Wednesday, Minnesota will trade the receiver to the Oakland Raiders for linebacker Napoleon Harris, the seventh overall pick in the upcoming draft and a 2005 late-round pick. According to NFL rules, trades can be worked out but not announced until next month.

"Nothing is official until March 2," Moss' agent, Dante DiTrapano, told the Pioneer Press. "But don't be surprised if Randy is wearing the Silver and Black this upcoming season."

"We've had some discussions with them (the Raiders), but there is nothing to announce," Vikings vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski told the Pioneer Press.

Once Moss leaves Minnesota, the Vikings' top receiver will be Nate Burleson. Former Steeler Plaxico Burress is the cream of the free-agent crop, but the Vikings could also snare a potential salary-cap casualty such as Isaac Bruce, Muhsin Muhammad or Derrick Mason. The draft also has two promising players -- Michigan's Braylon Edwards and USC's Mike Williams.

"In speaking with Moss, although he has a lot of ties to Minnesota and did not particularly want to be traded, he's very excited with the possibility of playing for Al Davis and being a part of the Raider tradition," DiTrapano told the Pioneer Press. "The Raiders have vowed to use Randy's talents the way they should be used, and that's to throw the ball vertically down the field.

"Randy's desire to win a Super Bowl is enhanced with a move to a team like the Raiders, because the Minnesota Vikings seem to be in a constant rebuilding mode," he said.

The Raiders will take on Moss' $7.25 million base salary for next season, while the Vikings will save nearly $2 million against their cap. Four seasons remain on Moss' eight-year $75 million contract.

yeah i was gonna say that the owner just said that they aren't gonna trade Moss...but then again he isn't he like not the "official" owner right now or something like that...it was talked about quickly in the BIG FINISH on Mondays evenings addition of PTI

and just so everyone knows...i can't stand Plaxico Burress

Still doesn't help the defense. Offense isn't really the problem. Collins seemed to look better as the (meaningless) year went on and I full expect him to get better this year. But the D....old, tired and slow. But its "Tha Raidars," so they had to do it.

With Al Davis, its pretty much the equivalent of "baby steps"

defense will make its stride... we have alot of dead weight here that gonna be cut... and get a good LB and DE and we are set for atleast 10 games next year..

I'm a 49ers and Broncos fan sooo....yeah.

Good pickup I think. Collins is what I would think as the perfect type of QB for Moss.

From what I know, Vikings were wanting to get rid of Moss for years now, but no team would take him. Looking at this trade on paper, Vikings got losing out on a lot, but what people don't understand is the baggage Moss comes with. We don't know how badly his off field antics distract the team, but this is why the Vikings want to get rid of him.

I really don't care if Moss stays or leaves. He's a great wide recevier, but don't forget that the Vikings have an awesome set of weapons on offense for Culpepper to go to on offense. However, being a Moss fan, I'd like him to stay with the team, unless we get a killer deal for him, which I highly doubt any team would offer the Vikings.

yeah i figured that Mr. Banks was nice to have for the day (oh i wish) but bottomline is he really didn't fit in well here...and i some hunches that he wasn't all that well liked either...so im back to my Brad

as for the topic at hand...i really think that most of Moss's antics come on the field than off of them...and i think alot of them are built up by the media...ive loved Randy Moss from DAY ONE...he's a hell of a football player...

and i believe it was Miss Sheryl Crow that sang

"...a change will do you good"

maybe it'll be for the best...i really don't think he survivies another year in Minny if he were to stay...just what i think

It was mostly symbolic. I've been a Raider fan for the better part of my life. I don't like the trade. I think Harris was a year away from becoming a perennial All-Pro at the position. Randy Moss is a malcontent, and the Raiders have enough of those. Defense is a more pressing need than offense for the Raiders at this point. I could go on. And please don't call me a bandwagoner. I've probably rooted for the Raiders longer than you've been alive.
