Random Observations from the game tonight

Prospect
As I posted earlier, I attended tonight's game vs. the Pacers, and just wanted to post a few observations

First of all, Conseco Fieldhouse is without question the best NBA arena I've ever been to. I've been there multiple times (for Wooden Classic, Big Ten Tourney, etc.) and it is perfectly set up for viewing basketball. The concourse has a really cool retro feel to it also. If you guys ever get a chance to see a game there, jump on it.

Troy Murphy may have the ugliest jumper I've ever seen, how he gets that garbage to go in is beyond me.

Jason Thompson really impressed me, he's a lot quicker in person than he appears on tv. He puts a little weight on that frame, and plays a little smarter and he could be a special player.

Along with that, Jason could have been called for 12 or more fouls. When he was guarding Hibbert, Jason got away with a lot of contact in the post.

If only Landry was 6'10, he'd be absolutely dominating. He has some really crafty post moves.

Tyreke's change of speed on the dribble is absolutely lethal, I really think his quickness is very underrated

Obvious to anyone who watched the game, Danny Granger is an absolute baller! Really took over the game in second half

How on earth did we lose to the Pacers? That team was just dreadful, what a poorly constructed team.

Noc and Udoka, need to be gone as soon as the season's over. Noc screamed at Tyreke much of the first half, and you could tell that Tyreke and the rest of the Kings have just tuned him out and some of the looks on their faces after a few of his shot attempts were just priceless.

Beno is really playing well!!!! Pacers fans kept coming up to me asking me who he was, and commented how talented they thought he was

Felt so bad for the dozen or so Israelis/Casspi fans who sat a section over from me, as they were so psyched to see Omri play, and well DNP. Kudos to them though, they were really cheering hard for the Kings the whole game despite the dire 2nd half.

There were probably 30-40 Kings fans that I could see, not a horrible turnout at all

Larry Bird was sitting in the stands for most of the game, seemed impressed by Tyreke's play, but disgusted by the Pacers first half.

Really random I know, but Tyreke and Luther Head seemed to be pretty close friends as do Landry and Earl Watson for whatever reason

Overall, a microcosm of our season: a promising start followed by a disappointing finish. We have some really good pieces, just need to mature and add another big. Great time at the game, got to make it out to Arco sometime though :)

Great post. But why do people always have to say, "oh if Landry was 6' 10" he'd be a beast, or if so and so had this they'd be this"? If landry was 6' 10" he'd be a sure fire all star waiting for a huge pay day. ;)

Observation:

The only thing Donte Greene is good for is spot-up shooting. Other than that, I do not want to see the ball in his hands. His dribbling is sub-par and he doesn't know how to play under control. I don't see how people are so high on this guy. I don't care how young he is.

He's 6'11 with an athleticism of a guard. He's come up big in late in games during crucial defensive plays. He's improved a lot since last season and will continue to improve next season.

Good luck to him. But I think I would prefer it if he improved for somebody else next season.

I would prefer a better chance at wall anyways. I enjoy watching 13 play and beno and donte and brockman and landry, even cisco and omri a little. Everyone else just isn't as effectively entertaining.

I know huh.
People need to have a little patients with our young players.
Give these guys a chance to settle down, get comfortable and find themselves.

I was really hard on Thompson early on, but now I'm convinced that he is seriously one sedative away from being a legit 20 & 10 guy.

Donte is another gem who just needs some polishing imo. Hes a little immature but has a great attitude. He also has the tools to become a mismatch on both the defensive and the offensive end.

I like our guys, seriously. I like our coach, too. I'm anxious to see who we get in the draft, and if we do anything with this cap space we're gonna have, and to see any improvements from guys like JT and Omri and Donte next season. But even if it were this same bunch that we have now, I wouldn't think it impossible that they could contend for a low seed next year, barring significant injuries.

I watched from my seat at half of all Wallace's games with the Kings and, quite frankly, I was happy to see him go. I wish him fame and fortune and do not want him back. I have developed the same view of Greene. Let him be an All Star with another team, if he can. No regrets on my part. In the meantime I expect our team to be no worse for the loss.

Oh yeah, I can totally understand your logic. Just let future potential all stars leave for nothing, so we can just keep getting role players so we can end up being mediocre. Sounds good.

That is frankly ridiculous.

I couldn't disagree with you more. He's a young player with little experience under his belt, so he's going to make some stupid mistakes and play inconsistently, but he does make some very intuitive plays. He also happens to be one of our best defenders. When he matures and calms down a bit, he's going to be a two way force of nature freak athlete type. His size, athleticism, and quickness make him a rare commodity, even amongst NBA players. Every team can use of those. With regards to our current team, he is (or at least should be) on the (for the most part) untouchable list. PW must see something in him too, I mean, he is a starter after all (which probably indicates Coach trying to give him a more consistent role on the team).

He can be the kind of guy we were looking for when we were contending. He's actually Gerald Wallace with a better shot. Second year guy that's not costing us anything, and can only get better or be gone. I don't understand the desire to cut him loose.

Don’t you think practice makes perfect? If he doesn’t make the mistakes now and get a chance to learn from them, when is he going to? Donte needs to continue to improve and I don’t mind that he’s given the chance to make mistakes and hopefully he’ll learn from them. I like that our coach tells him to expand his game and not settle for only being a jump shooter - which will make him a better player.

You're not looking at his athletic ability and potential. It's there, and everything we've been seeing this year from him (and others) is that proper coaching is helping these kids improve on a regular basis. He has the potential to be a great hybrid - his defensive potential and the problems he can create on offense are great for such a young kid.
