Much of the discussion tonight was about the pending roadtrip, which will place the team in the path of Hurricane Ike this weekend. They are scheduled to play on Friday around the time Ike is expected to make landfall in the Houston area and will be traveling to San Antonio during the time the storm swings that direction. Fun times... I'll give you what I took away from the conversations tonight and hopefully they'll post the audio.

They talked to Ticha as she was on her way to see the new Nicholas Cage movie...she's happy with the way they played last night, thought the rookies played well and got a good taste of playoff basketball. She's also been monitoring the Texas weather conditions but should they actually wind up going on the roady, she expects the team to continue to work on getting better and catching some momentum for the playoffs. One of the final quips of the night from Koz as they let her go since her movie was about to start (she must have really been talking to them at the theater) was to congratulate her on her 2000th assist and how she has lapped the field in that practically. He suggested that she consider doing nothing but scoring for the next 11 years to either set another milestone and/or give them a chance to catch up.

Assistant coach Steve Shuman talked about the team's growth, cohesiveness and trusting of the system and one another being a factor in their making the playoffs. Mentioned that San Antonio and Seattle have similar styles and they'll start prepping for San Antonio, getting a chance to play them as the regular saason winds down will be helpful since they haven't played them in a while.

They talked to the San Antonio radio guy, who talked about why San Antonio is playing so well, which sound strikingly similar to the reasons why Shuman thought Sac was starting to play so well. Then also went on to talk about evacuation plans for the area and how the weather was affecting local sports schedules this weekend...

And they wrapped the show with a conversation with News10 weather person who gave a rundown on Texas weather and the pending arrival of Ike.

So it might be interesting to see if the league does make a decision on the necessity of playing these games with the evacuations planned and the projected path of the hurricane.

More on Ike

Continuing on with the Hurricane Ike updates.....

The Monarchs Upcoming Texas Tour Could Face Hurricane Fallout

To reach the playoffs, the Monarchs survived one storm, but now are headed into another.

After clinching a postseason berth Tuesday against the Seattle Storm, the Monarchs leave Sacramento this morning for Houston, which is awaiting Hurricane Ike. It is bearing down on the Texas coastline and could hit Friday accompanied by widespread heavy rain, with winds of at least 131 mph predicted by some reports. (more)

Tonight, San Antonio hosts the Connecticut Sun, which is tied for first place in the East with the Detroit Shock. Because of so many playoff implications, the Silver Stars intend to play both the Sun and Monarchs as scheduled, but that could change.

"We're obviously monitoring the weather closely," said Silver Stars spokesperson Leigh Anne Gullett, adding that city and facility officials are meeting this morning to discuss the situation. "As we get closer to the games, we'll know more. Storm tracks can change so much between now and then, but right now we're still on (for the games)."
