PPat as small forward? (split)

Very smart picks hitting at the core of need. Now if Malone makes PPat the awesome SF he can become, and Boogie gets his head on straight and coach can get everyone to buy into the "culture" they talk about, it is a great first step. We need not worry about who stays and who goes for what but what can the TEAM become in personality and culture.

Once the core of players have bought in and the majority accept being role players, they are off and running (pun intended). For only the second time since Summer League has be in Las Vegas, I'm really looking forward to it this year. Now we all have to be patient while the new folk start their magic and get off our high horses until January at least. Remember, other than draft choices and signed players, everyone at Summer League is fair game.

Can you explain why you think PPat can be a SF? I know he can shoot, but does he have the handles and passing ability necessary to be a SF? I personally am always weary of the players you have to convert to be something else. It usually doesn't work out well for either party.

Not every small forward needs to handle to play the position. Tayshaun Prince has made his bones as a spot-up shooter and wing defender, and folks around here are pretty high on him as a SF.

Assuming Tyreke and McLemore are guards, the SF really only needs to be a spot-up shooter who helps on the boards. Ballhandling is taken care of.

The only problem with that is Tyreke is the only ballhandler on the court with PPat as the SF. What happens if we can't get him the ball? McLemore's handles are not up to NBA standards from what everyone has been saying.

Never mind the ball handling and passing. The question should be can Patterson guard the SFs of the NBA and I think the answer is probably not. He's best suited as a stretch 4.

Exactly! Way too many people (some bad coaches included) think offense first. If a player can't defend at a position and you have no stable reliable switch up, then all you are doing is setting the table for run-n-gun basketball. P-Pat has all he can handle guarding other stretch 4s that have a quick first step, 3s would burn him up. I like P-Pat, but I don't see him as anything but a stretch 4.

I think Patterson can easily play the 3 for us. For one he's a very smart player who already plays well off Cuz/Evans and has all the traits we are looking for at that spot without breaking the bank. Spreads the floor all the way to the 3pt, Athletic, aggressive in the paint, post skills, willing passer(role player) ect ect. give props to GP for acquiring this guy he can play. Few vids for your entertainment.

Not on this team, not with Tyreke/McL backcourt. Like others have already said... ballhandling and guarding 3's is an issue. We have plenty of size with Tyreke at the point and McLemore as our 2. Salmons fits nicely at the 3 with that backcourt. In the future we can look for an upgrade at the four and an upgrade at sf... at sf we'll always need ballhandling and probably shooting as well.

I think he'd be a better starting 4. He's got great mobility, but it's just not enough to guard guys like Lebron, Durant, Melo, George, etc. However, I like him a lot, mainly because his basketball IQ, his athleticsim, his shooting and his attitude are exactly what we need from our starting PF. And while he's no shotblocker by any means, he is a great man defender at the 4 and his post defense is mostly solid. If he can improve in the rebounding department, don't be surprised if he starts at PF.

What we really need is a SF who can shoot, defend and rebound well. Anyone know one of those(who is reasonanbly aquirable)? Off the top of my head, I can think of Iggy, Mike Dunleavy, Earl Clark, and Andrei Kirilenko.
