What an interesting week. Looks like USA Today is back in the game, although their commentary seems a bit pedestrian, and curious, given the nature of what has transpired. Matt Moore speaking aloud what many of us are thinking...

With the extra rest days he had last week, George Karl shortened his rotation and got two wins in which the Kings outscored the Jazz and Knicks 120-56 in the paint. A big part of that, obviously, was DeMarcus Cousins, who recovered from a three-game stretch in which he shot 13-for-53. And not only did Rajon Rondo dunk, but he also made seven of his eight free throws last week.

They picked up a couple wins last week (vs. Knicks and Jazz) thanks to strong nights from DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo, but Rondo is out Tuesday for what he said to referee Bill Kennedy in the game in Mexico City, and now that we know what was said he’s lucky it was just one game.

The excitement surrounding this Rajon Rondo dunk -- and his bounce-back season in general -- is justifiably replaced by shock and dismay at the specifics of the tirade he launched at veteran referee Bill Kennedy. If what Rondo is alleged to have has been corroborated, Sacramento can count itself fortunate to only lose him for one game.

The soap opera continues, with Rajon Rondo now suspended a game for swearing at an official, but the good news is the Kings ended a three-game losing spell andDeMarcus Cousins busted out of a mini-slump. They aren’t out of the hunt, but at the same time, not much help is in sight for this porous defense.

It is difficult to watch DeMarcus Cousins play like such a beast, like he did vs. the Jazz, and reconcile that with how George Karl wants him to play. It's not that Karl's overall scheme doesn't work, it's been proven that it does. But this roster, with Rondo and Cousins and the kind of wings they have, it just doesn't make sense to put them out of position defensively by pushing the pace.
