Posting up at the point?

I read in the 'Stoked Salmons' article in the Sacramento Bee that Coach Musselman wants to post up Salmons when he's playing point guard:

"We envision when he's at the point that he will have the ability to post up other point guards who are sometimes 4 to 5 inches smaller," Kings coach Eric Musselman said.

So, since there weren't any post-up 2 guards out there (except Bonzi of course), it looks like it'll be Salmons creating mismatches when he's playing PG. He should also win the rebounding battle at the point too. I can also envision Artest bringing up the ball in certain situations so Salmons can get down low and post-up his defender... the opposing point guard.

Think of it as a Wells-type of situation at a different position... only this time, it'll be coming off the bench. Looks like Petrie had that in mind when he signed Salmons - let's get a guy who can do what Bonzi did to a certain extent at a lower price.

I'm not sure if Salmons is great at posting up players; he's definitely not soft, but if he succeeds in doing so, hopefully it will add a new dimension to his game. It seems that Musselman's really ecstatic about Salmon's point guard ability and versatility above anything else. In fact, it seems like Musselman wants to use Salmons at PG most of the time. Hopefully he will thrive creating mismatches in this way.

speaking of positng up point guards, i was watching dnever in the playoffs, and andre miller is pretty beastly down low for a point gaurd. he'd probably make slamons his b****h

Watching Salmons last year, it's clear that he is a slasher more than anything else.

i didnt watch nba much when we had wallace, but did he ever get any playing time, or was he more like kevin in his first year. Crash is pretty good.

Watching Salmons it is clear that he is just a poor man's Gerald Wallace.

Except Salmons is a better man-to-man defender - G-Wall so far is average on-ball, excellent off-ball defender. Salmons is a much better ball-handler, and G-Wall can't play 3 spots like Salmons can.

Except Salmons is 6'7"/6'6" with long arms, Andre Miller is indeed strong and a good power PG, but is 6'2".

Salmons could be a good defender. The more i think about, the more i approve of this signing, but the money part still makes me wonder what Petrie was thinking. Salmons said that god told him to be here, don't you think its funny that we also offered the most money.

God taking, in this case, the shape of GP waving $3 million dollars in front of him. Does anyone really believe Salmons walked away from the Toronto deal without a pretty good idea that he had somewhere else to go?

I'd say that he's a religious person, too.

Ironic that he turned down offers for other places to go to the #1 atheistic city in the country because he thought "God told him to". ;)

Hopefully he'll be able to learn some posting skills, but his game is getting to the rim although he lacks the best judgement in his decisions.

I think one advantage of having a big pg like Salmons is that Douby can play his more natural offensive position of sg at times. Then on the defensive end, Salmons can guard the sg and the smaller Douby can guard the point. Great versatility like Petrie always desires in his roster.

The same is true with Bibby - Salmons will be able to be the ball handler and relieve some pressure on Bibby even while he's in the game.

Why post up a guy just because he is bigger. If he cant shoot it wont work. Well, I guess for 25 million you can buy a spot in some post up classes.

Well, has anyone here seen a significant amount of him? I saw some of him last year, but not really enough to get a good grasp on his overall game. He wasn't a consistent focus for me when I watched the Sixers.

If not, then we don't know how good his shot is. What I do know is that AI limited his oppurtunities there, as has been said before, and what was discussed a few times in the Salmons bee article.

Also, he could be working on his game. Knowing that he's played for the summer leagues in the past (don't think he did this summer), I'd say he is and does.

It's a good thing Salmons DOESN'T have a jump shot or all we'd be hearing about on kingsfans.com is how much Geoff loves jumpshooters along with references to how "excited" he gets.

From what I have seen of John he is a very good ball handler and a pretty darn good passer. His shot is a little questionable, his around the basket play didn't really excite me, but he can definately play PG and bring the ball up.

Not for a second. Even though he said that he didn't have any other offers when he pulled out of the Toronto trade, I don't believe him. I think we made that offer shortly after our negotiations with Bonzi broke down and Salmons was thinking what to do for a couple of games.

Thats just my view on things. I don't believe for a moment that he walked away from Toronto deal and didn't have anything to fall back on at the time.
