Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“It’s a tough loss, we played well and had a lot of missed opportunities with lay-ups and free throws that put us out but we had a good opportunity the last two times down the court. The guys played hard but we just didn’t do enough to win it.”
“I thought it was goal-tending but obviously it wasn’t. The ball was up in the air and the guy came over and I haven’t seen the replay so I can’t tell you for sure.”
“Well, they are difficult, we talked about it and they just keep coming at you. They are going to run out on us. I thought the biggest difference in the game was the third quarter when we turned it over six or eight times and left some lay-ups at the other end. We just made too many mistakes. We make the three in the corner and (Amare) Stoudemire runs out down the sideline because Brad (Miller) is under the basket and our guards don’t pick him up and he gets fouled. You make a shot and you give up something in five seconds and you can’t celebrate that. We talked about it and talked about it and when you are playing this team they are just going to keep coming at you.”
On having no All-Star representatives:
“Obviously, I thought we would have someone on there. Once Phoenix got three guys on the team it was going to make it difficult depending on who the coaches looked at and I definitely think one of our guys deserved to have that spot. It’s a really difficult situation when you only have twenty-four spots and you have thirty teams and ten spots are picked by the fans. That doesn’t leave the coaches a whole lot of choices.”
Brad Miller
“It hurts when you have a game that you should have won. It makes it real tough.”
On having no Kings represented for the All-Star weekend:
“It doesn’t surprise me the way people treat us and the respect we get.”
Eddie House:
“I was just trying to get other guys involved, and when the shot comes, try to take it. But it’s a tough loss. We fought all game, and for it to come down and to lose the way we did, it hurts. But we’ve got to flip it, and go to Seattle and get a win.”
“It was an open shot. You’ve just got to knock down your open shots. If they give them to you, you’ve got to take advantage, but we didn’t get the win.
“We tried to keep Steve [Nash] from penetrating and getting into the key a
nd making plays. I think we did a pretty good job with that. I think we had a good game plan and we had a chance to win. It’s a tough break.” “You can’t dwell on anything, you’ve got to move on. But at the same time, tonight is going to sting a little bit. We’ve got another tough team to get ready for, and that’s where our focus needs to be.”
Maurice Evans:
“We’ve got a shot at Seattle coming up. That’s another team that’s at the top of the Western Conference. This is a tough conference. A lot of teams here are heavy favorites to contend for the national championship. But we competed, and that’s all we can do. We lost the game. As tough as it is, we’ve got to get our minds right so we can go up to Seattle and try to get a victory.”
“The starting five [of the Kings] played really well together tonight. The chemistry seemed like it was flowing really well and everyone was really productive.”
“We definitely competed. It just came down to one play. Two heavy-weight teams competed and you can’t say much more than that.”
PHOENIX SUNS
Coach Mike D’Antoni
“The last team to score was going to win and that’s about what happened. They [The Kings] were unbelievable offensively and they do things that you just can’t stop. I think we’re more less the same way and it was just a great basketball game.”
“They made some big plays and we missed some stuff and they missed some stuff, but we made the big play. It always comes down to that between two good teams and that makes it exciting. I’m sure the spectators would have liked something different here in Sacramento, but it was a great game to watch and that’s what it’s all about.”
“It’s big because it puts a loss on them and a win for us, and we’re trying to keep the lead. It also gives us confidence to know that we can win on the road. So there’s a lot of good positive stuff that happened. We’re still in February so there’s still a long way to go.”
“It [the play at the end] was one of those bang-bang things and I would have to see the replay. I haven’t seen it yet. It might be down it, might be up…when the game is decided like that there’s some luck involved and they didn’t get it this time. We got a little lucky and that’s the way the game goes.”
“(Nash) was great tonight, he was open, he took the shots and knocked them down. He’ll do that. He’s a pretty tough guard too. If he’s open he’s going to shoot it and if he’s not he’s going to pass it. You just kind of have to pick your poison.”
Amare Stoudemire
“Webber threw a pass to Brad Miller and he was wide open. I made my rotation out in time and blocked it. I got perfect timing. You saw the replay and I believe the officials saw the replay. It was a great block.”
“It feels good. They call me the enforcer you know, but it feels good to win the game on a defensive play.”
Quentin Richardson
“I just stepped inside because I had [Mike] Bibby there and Stevie [Nash] was out there dribbling and I just stepped up and just was hoping he was going to throw it to me. [Mike] Bibby was guarding me most of the fourth quarter and I new I had the advantage over him, but at the same time we were doing different things. When I had the opportunity, I just sealed him.”
Shawn Marion
“That’s one thing you have to look forward to when you come in here [Arco Arena]. The fan is going to be against you.”
“It was a block. You know it was a block. They called a block didn’t they? So it was a block.”
“This was a great win definitely. They’re a good team and you can’t take nothing away from them. We got some big stops at the end when we needed to and got a good “W”.”
