So all season I've been hoping GP finds a way to trade Mike. Ive seen lots of trade proposals involving him, but generally they don't make much sense to me. I started looking around on realgm just now trying to find a good new home for Mike and I really had a hard time.
My assumptions:
1. Mike is a vet, if a team is rebuilding/not in the playoff hunt they won't want him.
This eliminated: Minnesota, Memphis, the Clippers, Philadelphia, Milwaukiee, and Seattle from the mix.
2. Mike's expensive and not a backup. Teams with established starting point guards most likely won't want him.
This eliminates: San Antonio, New Orleans, Dallas, Golden State, Phoenix, Utah, Denver, Washington, Detriot, New Jersey, Chicago, Charlotte, and Toronto.
3. We would have to get enders back at a min and preferably a young guy and a draft choice.
This Eliminates: Boston, Orlando, LA Lakers, Houston
What does this leave us with?
New York - Overloaded with bad contracts and average point guards. Isiah might get burned in effigy if he traded anyone young for another aging, expensive vet. No way we'd get lee or Balkman back for Mike and i don't want much else from them.
Conclusion: For what?
Cleveland - Makes sense, we've seen the rumors around, but to make the salaries match we have to take back something and it's going to be underwhelming. There's no way to get equal talent out of dealing with the cavs. The guys we could snag are Gooden and Gibson probly, but Gooden is another underwhelming PF who would get destroyed in the West, and im skeptical about Gibson's talent. Maybe if some picks were thrown in or they ate a bad contract??
Conclusion: we'd be settling on losing Bibby as a salary dump essentially
Atlanta - Probly the most interesting. They have some young talent and their pick is going to phoenix so making a move now would be nice. Also Bibby could make that team interesting in the east. Maybe Bibby for Claxton, Wright, and Marvin Williams who seems to be the odd man out in the Hawks youth parade?
Conclusion: this is my favorite
Portland - A divisional team going strong that may not want to mess with chemistry.... BUT, they have too many young contracts they like plus several draft choices next year... they HAVE to get rid of guys or risk losing them for nothing so there's an opportunity here. Maybe something like Bibby for Rodriguez, McRoberts, Lafrentz, and one of their lower extra picks? Gives them a proven bigtime playoff guy to show the young guys what the playoffs are about.
Conclusion: definitely an option
Am i missing something or is Mike really not all that marketable at the moment?
