Pitino in running for Kings job

I would much rather be hearing the names Avery Johnson and Van Gundy. There are more than a few options out there that are better than Pitino. IMO, it would be a major dissapointment if Pitino were to be named the next coach of the kings.

now that you mention pitino he seems to be the more logical choice.. he would require less money compared to avery and jeff van gundy.. and less than jordan

he had his share of success in his 2nd year with the knicks

and in my opinion didnt get enough chances to showcase his coaching ability in bean town where fans are too anxious for a contender

We can't afford to be cheap again. We need a coach with a history of winning in the NBA and that won't be cheap.

Im on board with either Rick or Paul West. As long as Petrie actually makes the choice then all is well in Kings land. If the Maloofs make the choice again you can say good bye to Petrie right now...

Report: Pitino wants to coach Kings

Louisville coach Rick Pitino is a candidate for the Sacramento Kings job, Yahoo! Sports reported.

Pitino, Yahoo! reported, has let Kings' ownership know he is interested in a return to the NBA. One league official said the Maloof family as "intrigued."

Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof told Yahoo! the Kings haven't spoken with Pitino.

"I think he's a great coach and he's done an unbelievable job at Louisville," Maloof told Yahoo! Sports. "But we haven't talked to him."

Pitino wasn't part of the Kings' coaching search because of his profile and price tag. Sacramento likely would not be able to afford him. But, the Maloofs could be reconsidering because of Pitino's interest. He makes more than $3 million a season in at Louisville.

Pitino previously coach the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the NBA.

Pitino, who led the Cardinals to the Final Four, has had an interesting offseason. He's involved in an extortion case involving the estranged wife of a basketball staff member. Pitino filed charges against the woman, Karen Sypher, who federal authorities arrested and charged on April 24.

Pitino's son, Richard, a Louisville assistant, took a job on Billy Donovan's staff at Florida.

I'm just wondering what do you think. Is he an ideal candidate for the job?

hes had a good history in newyork..

has some history with one of our players francisco garcia and was ran out of boston before he can even get a decent playing team together..

his coaching career was cut too short that time but he is an interesting prospect

No thanks.

Only one coach in recent memory has made the jump and it's Larry Brown and he's been jumping from job to job ever since. Pitino, Cal, our last coach, etc. have failed for the most part. I would prefer a former coach (Avery) or a top assistant coach but please avoid another college coach.

Why do people think he will cost less then Westphal, Avery Johnson or Eddie Johnson? If anything he will comand a higher pay. We are talking about Pitino, he made 3 million a year as a college coach and the Maloof's were said to only pay around 2.5 million a year for a coach. It will take a min of 3 million a year for Pitino. People that think it will save us money to get him are nuts. We would be lucky to get him but I am still hoping for Westphal.

Louisville: Pitino says he's staying put

Rick Pitino has been around the NBA block twice now. Will there be a third time? At least not at the moment.
Responding to an Internet report that said the Louisville coach is a candidate for the Sacramento Kings job, university spokesperson Kenny Klein said he spoke to Pitino on Friday morning and Pitino said he has no intention of leaving the Cardinals.
"He's not going to the Sacramento Kings," Klein told ESPN.com's Andy Katz.
Yahoo! Sports reported on Thursday that Pitino has let Kings ownership know he is interested in a return to the NBA. One league official said the Maloof family was "intrigued," according to the report, but Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof told Yahoo! there have been no discussions with Pitino.
"I think he's a great coach and he's done an unbelievable job at Louisville," Maloof told Yahoo! Sports, "but we haven't talked to him."
Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich told ESPN.com's Pat Forde, "I'm sure they're interested [in Pitino]. He's not going anywhere,"
Pitino previously coached the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the NBA.
The coach has had an unsettling offseason since leading the Cardinals to the Elite Eight in March. He's involved in an extortion case involving the estranged wife of a member of his basketball staff. Pitino filed charges against the woman, Karen Sypher, who federal authorities arrested and charged on April 24.
Pitino's son, Richard, a Louisville assistant, also left his staff to take a job on Billy Donovan's staff at Florida.

If this is anything more than Pitino calling the Maloofs and saying "Hey, I want the job" and the Maloofs giving him an interview just to be polite......... well, you know the rest.

I went through this once with my other favorite team. For the first half season it was quite exciting. Played the 40 (48) minutes of hell press on Jordan's Bulls on opening night and beat them. Then it all unraveled. Everyone thought it was because he was too trigger happy as a GM and should only coach. Oddly enough the next coach who by all other standards completely blows as a coach got them to the Eastern finals with the same core.

Oh one other thing... everyone thought they were a lock for not only the top draft pick but a good chance at getting 1 and 2 or 3 that first year. They wound up with 3 and 6.

So I'm going to pass.
