Paul George injured at Team USA Scrimmage

I've read reports that the stanchion was twenty-six inches closer than it would be in an NBA game.

Yup.

There are probably five injuries in all of sports I wish I could unsee. This one has to be right at the top of the list. My prayers go out to Paul George and his family AND to all Pacers fans.

Like Chris Webber always says when he's doing a broadcast and someone falls into the crowd "They really need to move those cameramen off the floor and move the stanchion back, it's going to take an injury to a superstar before something is done about it"
Yes, and I think about that s*** pretty often when looking at how little room we have between the baseline and the camera men. We've got less room than most NBA teams and we're begging for a serious injury. Reke rolled his ankle on a camera man's leg when still here.

Really, the issue stems from guys who've never played the game making these decisions. The landing after a shot or contest of a shot is muscle memory, done tens of thousands of times. You don't have time to think about where your feet are landing. When the space you're used to landing in is suddenly smaller.....crap like this can happen.

It's personal to me though as I had a serious basketball injury running into a wall far too close to the baseline in a gym we shouldn't have played in. In any other gym/arena I've ever played in, my wrist wouldn't have snapped.

I simply do not understand why basketball has not come up with a stanchion that is NOT near the court. With the materials available today, one would think they could create something.

Yea, it was. But either way the real NBA one and the camera people still need to be moved. Even with it 26 inches farther people still land right at it. So many spectacular athletes now adays

Yes especially considering the setting of this particular incident. An exhibition game for the fans, playing for our country. Terrible

Let's hope NBA changes the stanchion back further ASAP. Unbelievable it has not been moved back before.

I'd hope something like this will make them develop a stanchion that's further back and do it quick, before someone else gets injured.

luckily the NBA stanchions are 2ft 2in farther back than the ones in Vegas today. But regardless, they do need to be moved even farther back, as well as the camera guys. Get them off the floor and into the first row of seats at least

Poor PG wish him a quick recovery, but I have said plenty of times this is why you don't want franchise players playing in these games

And just how many injuries have you seen in these games? It was a fluke. It could have happened anywhere.

Yeah it could but the point is the Pacers are not paying him to play for team USA

If you check out the Pacers board, the overwhelming majority of fans still support PG being on the national team. Most people consider it an honor.

If you're going to point a finger of blame, try pointing it at the stanchion and the size of Thomas & Mack's court area in general.

Anyone here with a good understanding of injuries? What's worse in general broken bones (clean breaks) or full tearing ACL's/ that injury Kobe had? Which is the lesser of two evils.

Well bones eventually heal 100% when you are young, knees and ankles can never be the same (though sometimes they actually get "better").

My son fractured both of his forearm bones this past spring, I wasn't at the hospital when it happened but I saw the x-rays and I saw the x-rays after it was "healed", the bones are still at a pretty sever bend. I think they can correct something like 10 degrees per year at Paul's age (early 20s). So even though it should heal relatively well it may be years before he is 100%.

Djibril Cisse had not one, but two similar injuries (on both legs at different times). He came back both times and had a long career. The first time, he came back after only six months.

If I have to bet, I'll bet that George comes back the season after next and he will still be a franchise level player.
.

Anybody else willing to put themselves on blast and admit that they had to do an internet search for Djibril Cisse? I read, "He came back both times and had a long career," and my first thought was, "Long career doing what?"

Ugly to see and long to heal but clean break fractures are not career ending threats.
Healed bones have exactly the same function than intact ones : being stiff.
I'm sure PG will come back 100%.

I myself have weak bones and suffered several fractures during my life. Never bothered me again once it healed.
On the other hand, my ankles I severely sprained when I was younger never came back the same.

Ha ha. Sometimes my brain forgot to switch - there are regions where they've never heard of Cisse just like there are regions where they've never heard of Paul George.

Anyway, yes Cisse is a soccer star who suffered two horrific leg breaking injuries. He relies on speed and explosiveness, and retained those attributes post injuries.
