SALT LAKE CITY -- Greg Ostertag was suspended indefinitely by the Utah Jazz on Thursday for his conduct after a loss to Seattle.

The center did not show up for practice Thursday morning, a day after playing less than 10 minutes in a 113-94 loss to the SuperSonics.

"We did not tell him not to come to practice," said Kevin O'Connor, Jazz vice president for basketball operations.

Ostertag's agent, Jeff Austin, did not return messages from The Associated Press on Thursday. Ostertag told The Deseret Morning News on Thursday that he had told O'Connor he wouldn't be at practice.

O'Connor, who would not elaborate on what got Ostertag suspended, said he told Ostertag that wasn't acceptable and he was expected at practice Thursday morning.

O'Connor planned to meet with Ostertag and coach Jerry Sloan to get the matter resolved soon.

Sloan and Ostertag have had several clashes since the Jazz took Ostertag out of Kansas in the first round of the 1995 draft.

Ostertag has played in 41 games this season, his first back in Utah after spending a year in Sacramento. He played his first nine seasons with the Jazz.

Utah plays at Dallas, where Ostertag is from, on Saturday and hosts San Antonio on Monday. The Jazz already have a shortage of players because of injuries and had just 10 players available against the Sonics.

Haven't really been able to follow Tag this season.. is he still out of shape?
A little but not as bad as last year. Only playing 15 or so min per game but still avererging over on black... that man can fill the paint! Not sure if bringing him back would do any good since RA will not play him and I'm not sure he brings anything besides size that Skinner does not.

It is interesting to see him act like this though... Tag has never really been a hot head.

Guess they Overreacted - Now it is Just a One Game Suspension

 SALT LAKE CITY -- Greg Ostertag will miss Saturday's game against the Mavericks as he sits out a one-game suspension handed down by the team Thursday for his conduct after a loss to Seattle, team officials said.

Ostertag, who was suspended without pay, is expected to rejoin the team Sunday for practice, and will be eligible to play against the Spurs on Monday, said Jonathan Rinehart, a Jazz spokesman.
The one-game suspension, Ostertag's fourth since 2001, for arguing with coach Jerry Sloan, was levied after a Friday morning meeting between Ostertag, Sloan and Kevin O'Connor, the team's senior vice president of basketball operations.
"Greg had some things he wanted to say, we certainly had some things we wanted to say, he understood where we were going with it, and hopefully Sunday he'll be back at it," O'Connor told The Salt Lake Tribune. "We've been down this road before."
