Granted there aren't enough comments here to have a sufficient sample size but i find it interesting that not one of them sounds enthusiastic about the prospect. Some that stand out are "This is good news….the Lakers will essentially have 4 more home games per year. On top of that, i doubt anybody in the OC is chomping at the bit to become Los Angeles Kings of Anaheim fans", "Just what we need…a second sub-par basketball team", and "Doesn’t matter who they bring here, they will find out, as the Clippers did, that this is LAKERS territory. Go Lakers!". If those kind of attitudes are common down there, the Maloofs could be walking into a disaster (we can only hope). http://lakers.ocregister.com/2011/03/03/50231/50231/

Sometimes it takes a while for someone to realize what they lost. In this case the Magoofs will realize what they had in Sac only when it's too late.

Uh, no. You have it mixed up. Sacramento will realize what it had in the "Magoofs" and the Kings only when it is too late.

We already know what we had in the Kings. But the Magoofs are just a bunch of lucky heirs who bought the team at the right time, when it was on the rise. They're bad businessmen who have lost much of their father's fortune and that's why they're in a position now where they need a quick fix like Anaheim. A more substantial, financially secure owner would have more leeway to work with Sacramento. The Magoofs are the worst thing that ever happened to the Kings.

Cosigned, my feeling is the team gets no attendance in Anaheim because they're not good an SoCal is a fairweather fan market. They'll probably be sold and moved to Kansas City in 6 years after.

Exactly. If they think fans In Sacramento are fair weather, wait until they see how fair weather fans that live 30 miles from the Lakers are.

from a business perspective i think it would be more feasible to be down there even during a down cycle because of tv contracts, sponsorship opportunities and the area is wealthy compared to sac. As far as relocating, it makes sense. i've bashed them calling them magoofs in the past because they were meddling in basketball decisions which they should have left to petrie. "defense wins championships, former WNBA coach, artest, musselman, theuss, delaying the rebuild etc". when it comes to this decision making. i just hope they give the new group who is supposed to do their due diligence in getting an arena a fair shake. i'm extremely frustrated as a fan right as city people who can make decisions are being short sighted letting this big fish slip out of their hands.

if we are going to quote the bad.... let's quote the good too.. this guy get's it!

This move is not meant to try to steal away Laker/Clipper Fans its meant to attract “new” fans in Orange County who currently do not have any interest in the NBA. There are a lot of people who live in Orange County who currently do not care about the Lakers/Clippers. If the Kings do move they are going after these people. Orange County is a completely different demographic than Los Angeles. There are local companies/headquarters that will support this NBA franchise.

Look at the season ticket holder/company sponsorship statistics for the teams that play at Staples center. There is more than enough local support in Orange County to support the NBA.

Orange County has over 3 million people and this NBA team does not need to compete with Los Angeles to attract fans.

Exactly.. I can't see them staying in Anaheim more than a few years before being sold off. The Maloofs are losing so much money right now with their crappy "off strip" casino. The Kings right now are an after thought, and if they feel they can actually make more money then they are making here by moving to the OC than so be it. It's not going to be even close to the same atmosphere as it was in Sacramento, and they will be lucky to have half the place full when they continue to suck. They wont even sell out when they get better.

You, or anyone else can quote anything you like. My intent here was to draw attention to the negative reactions, not the positive ones.
Once they move they will realize this. It will be a 3rd rate team in a 1st rate town. They wont even get Clipper overflow with Blake Griffin on the rise.

In Sac we love our Kings.. In LA they will go there when they get free tickets or when there is nothing better to do.

"Positive Dave" would be spinning in his grave right now if he knew what was going on. For those who don't know who he is he was an old guy who attended every Kings game since they arrived until his health failed. He was a regular caller to the Grant Napear show too and would always try to put a positive spin on things when they were going wrong.

I don't think Dave could spin this in a positive way. If he were still alive this surely would have killed him.

I remember positive Dave. i never knew he passed away though. That's sad.

Let me ask the OP this: what would you think about people judging you as a sports fan based on the comments from the sacbee page? Would you call that accurate? If people just judged that, they would think the people of Sac are helping pack the kings bags and loading up the trucks.

There was a reason why I choose to say "Granted there aren't enough comments here to have a sufficient sample size". Why do you suppose that is?

Um, Kings are second worst in attendance right now. I highly doubt they would do worse than that down south. And even if attendance is the same at the bottom of the league where it is now, they would still have more revenue from a better TV deal, better corporate support, and if they start winning again, they will sell out.

But they won't own the arena so they won't get the money from parking, concessions, and other events that they get now. They'll just be a tenant, that's it.

To point out the comments that I referred to. Does there have to be anymore of a point than that?
I just don't see the point. So there are people who don't like the idea. What's new? There are always people who will be against something. If, by your own admission, no consensus on the so-cal scene can be derived from the comments, then what's the point other than to highlight what we already know (that there will always be negative people)?

Most of the threads about relocation are simply regurgitating things we already know. If you start limiting discussion to things that no one already knew, it doesn't leave a whole lot to talk about.

I've lived in Anaheim and can vouch that what you see right there in their comments is probably fairly represented. It's not like the Bee comments where a few guys with a dozen nicknames each spamming the board like it's their 24x7 job. It's a different world down there. On any night of the week they have a menu of major sports and entertainment choices. They will have some interest intially, but when the newness wears off they will be bored. They are multi-generation Laker fans and that's where whatever passion and loyalty is going.

Hard to call the OC fair weather fans when the Kings attendance in Sacramento has been really bad the past few years.

The truth is, all fan bases have their share of fair weather fans. There isn't a team that I can think of that could go through a horrible five year decline and not have attendance suffer. It's just not the way the world works. People respond to and support success, not mediocrity and failure.

Attendance is poor whenever a team sucks on the court or field.

Why would you be saying the sort of things I've been saying when we haven't been "reading from the same book"?

I think you guys put way too much stock in anonymous internet comments on a newspaper website. I don't see how it could ever accurately represent a true population.

Hard to criticize Sac's attendance when workers in Sac were getting furloughed around the beginning of the season and the team has a combined 56 wins over the last THREE SEASONS.

More than anything I think a lot of people would love to be with this team on the ride up but are tepid about having their hearts ripped out with the team moving a season or two before they take off.
