OPEN LETTER to Doug Christie

#62
my warmest memory of Doug Christie

The last 03-04 season game, Kings played at Golden State. There are quite a lot of Kings fan waiting for the team beside the North tunnel where their coach parked. And I was one of them, wearing my #13 jersey. Doug and Jackies came out early. They got on the coach with a smile as everyone was cheering for them. I took off my Jersey and waved it to Doug as he could saw that through the window. Fans start calling his name, "Christie, Christie..." and finally, he came down from the coach. He came to me and ask, " Do you have a pen?" Yes, I have. He took my pen and signed on his jersey. I looked at Jackie who standed at the far end and she gave me a smile. He took my pen to sign to other fans too. One after one after one.

Thank you so much Doug. Not only for what you did for Kings but also this little warm memory.

All the best to you.

I wish all professional players showed the character and integrity that Doug does off the court, and the heart and committment that Doug shows on the court.

"Our Spirit Will Never Be Broken"

Dang, Does this have to end?

Your dedication, your heart, your Spirit is something that very few people have in any profession. Thank you for everything you have done for us on the court and outside of it. The NBA is a business, but you will always be a part of our Family.

Its not every day you get to see a player like Doug Christie play and its even more rare to get to have one for as long as we did here in Sacramento. I don't think it was just his play either. How many guys are there that do all the little things that he did on the court. But at the same time how many guys are there that do the rest of the things that he has done here (and I'm sure other places). I'm just glad we got to have him for the time we did. What more could anyone have asked from him, he literally gave his heart and soul, not only on the court, but off the court as well. From where I have sat and watched him, he was just a great individual. His effort on the court was a mirror image of how I saw him off the court, he did it all, whatever was needed. If only there were more of his type of people in the world, I think it would be a more pleasant place.

Doug,

Your boundless passion and enthusiasm for the game, the team and yours fans speakes volumes about your character as a person. When I look back at your career to date one defining thing that resonates throughout is HEART. Although you are on another team and it may seem that all is lost, one thing can be assured you will always have fans in us. God luck and God speed.

Great posts everybody. Was a tough read. An emotional day indeed.

Thank you Doug for your play. Thank you for playing the game the way its supposed to be played. Never forgetting just how much of an honor it is to play this fabulous game. Thank you for being a gentlemen off the court. Thank you for treating every fan with respect and showing how much they mean to you.

I have to be honest. DC grew on me. I wasnt too much pf a fan his first 1st year here. As I gained better knowledge of the game I saw just how much he did on a daily basis. The little things as they are called.

You are a much better man then the player you are. and thats saying alot. I wish I can be he kind of man you are as I get older.

Thank you DC!!

Doug-thank you for all of your heart and passion these past five seasons. Right now it is unfathomable to me to think of you as anything but a Kings player. The first game against Orlando will be hard to see. :(

Dear Doug,

I was so shocked to hear this news of you being traded, it's funny cuz i figured nothing exciting was going to happen last night because it was the Kings night off. Then i recieve a phone call from a fellow king fan, and he says,"did you hear the trade?"..."what TRADE?" Then it hit me like a blow to the stomach. You were traded.

I can't really express how much you have meant to not only the team but every fan here on this board; your courage, leadership, and love for the game. It honestly won't feel like the same team without you. You are a true basketball player, someone that plays for his team, and not for himself, and i think that is what i will miss the most about you doug. You are a great person, and i'm sure no one on this board can actually tell you how much it all meant to see you play for this great team for all these years. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A KING.

Doug:

Thanks for being you. You played with heart and passion and unselfishness. You are the kind of role model that the NBA needs. The Magic are now my second fave team and you will always be a King in Sacramento.

PS: Though I know you are sorry about this incident, thanks for blasting Rick Fox's jaw too............

I can only say that I am sorry for not being able to meet Doug and his family. For the short time that I have been a Kings fan, I have come to love him and his contributions to the game. Several of you have mentioned how he has instilled pride, being a team player, not to mention, being a mentor to many. Thank you doug for allowing my grandson, "Special K", to be the latest young player to be honored to be your student. I know that he will never forget what he has learned from you and will "bring it" to the floor every Kings game. That part of you will always be in Arco Arena. Thanks doug. Good Luck! God Bless you as part of the Magic.

Doug,

You have lots of heart and lots of spirit. You are what every team needs; Orlando is lucky to have you, and I am sad to see you go. Thanks for being so unselfish and helping this team get to the point they are at now.

Good luck to you and your family with everything; I look forward to seeing you back at Arco once a year and on League Pass!

Thanks Doug for helping the new guys out and being such a great teacher of the sport. You will be missed. I hope everything turns out well in Orlando and you can give them what you gave us.
