One Solution!

Hey guys, I've been a kings fan only since the j-will, c-webb & vlade era and came across this forum and finally decided to post. Please just hear me out. Although I believe that trading at least one of our core players is the real solution to rebuilding the team...here's an alternative.

We can trade Skinner and Williamson to Portland for Joel Przybilla and Derek Anderson. I checked on real gm and it works financially. This would get us the the defensive big body in Przybilla who at 7'1'' and 255 lbs can rebound and block shots at the center position. He averaged 6.4 pts, 7.7 rebs, on .598 percent shooting, in 24.4 minutes per game last year. Brad would slide down to powerforward.

Assumming Portland would want to do this trade...which they might since they'll get rid of Anderson's massive contract. We can waive, trade or keep him. I believe he only has one year left on his contract anyway. This would let us get rid of skinner's and williamson's contracts. With Brad and Thomas playing PF, we won't need to spend the mle on songalia and can pursue another defensive center to back up Przybilla.

I believe that this trade would be a step in the right direction to rebuilding. Przybilla is a young center with potential and costs little. Ultimately, I think that we need to get rid of Brad. Although, he was supposed to replace Vlade and plays hard...he's too slow and unathletic and a huge liability on defense. Plus I believe that we overpaid for him. Anyway...let me know what you guys think of this trade.

There's no way Portland would do that trade. They believe that Przybilla, Randolf, Outlaw, Telfair(and maybe Dairus Miles) is their team of the future. That's why they let Mighty Mouse and Shareef go for free.

Yeah it wouldn't make a ton of sense for Portland. They are trying to develop a young core, wouldn't make a ton of sense for them to jettison a young big man for the players you have them receiving in return.

I'm not sure how much faith they have left for Miles or Outlaw but we'll see. Don't forget, they are also very high on their new HSer, Martell Webster.

As an aside, am I the only one that finds it highly ironic that the new Iverson, "but none of these things can get you a jumpshot" commercial features Darius Miles?

A trade with Portland that might be more likely would be for Theo Ratliff. I don't know if I want Petrie to gamble on a 32 year old with 3 years left at almost 12 million per, but if the Blazers were willing to take back Corliss and Kenny Thomas, I'd be OK with that.

no WAY id be okay with taht

lots of money for not enough product from ratliff.

thomas and corliss are very respectable and good backups at their positions, at least. thomas may start, but still.

no ratliff for me, thank you very much.

I don't think Portland would do that. Joel isn't quite enough to get us anywhere. He is young, yes, but is overrated, especially by Kings fans because he routinely owns us. Also trading Brad is a bad idea. If you're worried about a defensive liability, worry about Bibby. Brad is a good passing center with many offensive weapons and plays decent defense, which is exactly what this team needs. There's not really any other center in the league outside of KG who can work for our team. If Portland agreed to this, a big if, we would be better, but it is hardly what we need to get back on the right track.

And this should be in the trade thread.

Brad's defense sucks.

But I agree about his offense. I would not hesitate to trade him for a star level player, or as part of a youth movement, but his departure likely means the end of the current offense, so you have to be careful.

You say Brad is too slow and unathletic, well Przybilla isn't too much better. Sure he will block some shots for you, but he may be even slower than Brad and not at all as talented on the offensive end. A front line with Brad and Przybilla won't solve our problems and trading for Przybilla and then trading Brad away doesn't look to appealing either, unless we package Brad to get a superstar player.

Yeah, I think people get the terms, "great shotblocker" and "great defender" confused a lot.

Definitely. Skinner=good shotblocker, =/= good defender. Or at least his defensive skills are not as good as his shotblocking skills. Guys charge past him all night going to the hoop, then he gets a hand on a few. And the offensive players always look really shocked that he challenged them.

Yeah...I don't know what to say, except that right now nobody is afraid of taking the ball to the basket with Brad in there and rightfully so. I guess that I'm not too high on Brad. Although he has a great jumpshot, he has no post moves whatsoever. I think we need more defensive players in our frontline, instead of jumpshooting softees. I do appreciate his effort, he dives for loose balls and is scrappy. However, I think we need to head in a different direction.

Nope. :) They should re-shoot with D-Miles, Ben Wallace, Shaq, and J-Kidd. That would be sweet:

"A jump shot can get you... supermodels... fancy cars... state-of-the-art urinals... (etc.) But, as clearly evidenced by us, none of these can get you a jump shot."
