OFFICIAL: Kings trade Webber to Philly!!!!!

There has got to be more to this trade than what appears to be on the surface. Whether that means there is another deal in the works who knows? But Petrie definitely has knowledge of something that made him do this deal. I'm sure that he has consulted with the team's medical staff about Webb's health and I'm sure there are some even deeper issues with Webb and the other players, not just Peja. Petrie is too smart and too good at what he does to simply cast off Webb for three mediocre NBA veterans. There is a reason why this guy has won NBA executive of the year two times in the past 7 years and there is a reason why it's very hard to think of a deal he has made that hasn't worked out in the end. It was Petrie in the first place who took a chance on Webb when he was with Washington and actually it was Petrie who built this team from the ground up. I am very leery about this trade and I'm trying to see the positives (yes there are some positives), but the thing that makes me support this trade is that Petrie was behind it.

Yep. For better or worse, this is now Pedja's team. He had BETTER step up and act the part. The gloves are off. He has no free passes coming. He wanted to be the big man and he's the last remnant of the team that ... ah, crap I'm gonna start crying again.

Pedja is the last remnant of the team that first got us so excited and so proud and so united. Jason, gone. Vlade, gone. Doug, gone. Webber, gone.

I LOVE THIS TEAM but I really, really, really, really hate the empty feeling I have right now.

Peja - You had better not let us down.
What are you talking about? CORLISS is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps this move will return the Kings to the form they were in last year with Webber injured. Hopefully, this trade will create a more team-style play and get more players involved. I guess we will find out soon enough. Who will start at PF? Williamson? Songalia? Skinner? Thomas? Should be interesting.

just spoke to a friend who was at the Kings game vs the knicks at MSG this year. there was one moment when the knicks were on a 15-2 run and webber got the team in a huddle and my friend heard webb clearly say "its about heart.. its always about heart in this uniform" (he had row c courtside) and then Sac went on to make a 12-0 run and take the game in the 4th..

stories like that take on greater significance when looking at this trade...

Another thing to think about is Webber was trade-able right now. Had he gotten re-injuryed (seems almost inevitable), he would be worth far less and no one would take his contract, thus we would be stuck with him for the remainder of his contract. Sure, we did not get much in return, but we did get some contracts that can be moved around with much more ease than Webber's. I feel like Petrie must have felt that it was now or never to trade Webber.

Does this remind anyone of the movie Major League, where the owner tries to assemble a losing team as part of a plan to relocate the team? I mean come on, this suicidal trade the same day that the new arena building plan falls through, building plans that the Maloofs insisted on in order to remain in Sac????? I think we may be in for a much bigger disappointment than just losing players.

all you did on this board for the last few months is complain about Kings defense.
Our defense was horrible with the capital H. Now we get some tough players inside, players who will grab board, who will play D., players who will put their bodyon the line night in and night out. I know for a fact that no player will score easy hoop, with corliss williamsson hanging around.

We didn't have much problem without webber last year. Why would we have any problems this year?

and yeah.... if any of these west teams take us lightly after this trade, they'll be in for suprise!!!

It's Stojak time baby!!!! time to burn some iron with the long balls!!!!

True, we did play alright without Webber last year, but it hardly seems relevant to compare now with then. Last year's lineup was Webb, DC, Bibby, Peja, and Vlade. Only 2 of the 5 remain

I'm new to this forum and I'm not a local. The reason why I joined was because I wanted to grasp the city's reaction to the Webber trade. I think the majority of the people who have posted their reaction to the trade have made it clear that it was a bad trade. I guess you could argue pro's and con's either way. My biggest problem with this whole Webber trade (not that I oppose it), but why would you trade Webber for three clearly mediocre players. It is evident to me that this was not a trade based on financial long term/short term fiscal responsibility. It was a trade based on chemistry and health. But why would you trade Webber for players that are not going to provide the same impact that he provided you???? You dont trade Hall of Famers for mediocre players. You trade Hall of Famer for Hall of Famer. The Lakers traded their Hall of Famer for scraps and look where they are now. Barely clinging to playoff hopes. Maybe some one can tell me something I dont know and clarify this for me.

I really hope these three players turn out well for the Kings. Their defense has been pathetic, but how does getting rid of Webber solve that problem? Brad still has players leaping over him for rebounds, Peja still won't stick his nose into the paint, Bibby still can't stay with most PGs off the dribble, etc... Yes, Webber's slow reacting swipes at the passing dribbler are gone, but the majority of the liabilities remain.

And in just a little glance at Kenny Thomas' stats, I don't feel too comforted. The sixers were 2-10 against the teams the Kings are fighting with for a playoff spot, and the opposing power forward usually got off. Here are a few stat lines from this season...Phoenix-Marion 24/11 & Stoudamire 29/10, San Antonio- Duncan 34/13 & 24/12(in 25 minutes), Memphis- Pao 34/15, Minnesota- KG 19/9 & 18/9, Dallas- Dirk 25/9....The list goes on and on. In those matchups Kenny Thomas averaged about 8 points and 6 rebounds.

This doesn't bode well for those who expect a new defensive personality, but I hope beyond reason that my doubts about the Kings are wrong.

Maybe you are right joker.

But we have to wait and see. I am confident that new guys will do good things for our team.

People are acting like it's end of the world. Get youself in order. He is gone, he is not our player anymore. I hope he has the worst game in his life against kings on Suturday.

why would you wish badly on a player that gave 150% to this team, and was traded against his will? I am a huge Webber fan, and a bigger Kings fan, and I will (once I calm down) of course root for the Kings Saturday night, but I would never wish Webb to play badly. That just seems mean spirited.

Also anyone hear Tony Parkers comments? "Now we don't have to worry about them anymore"
**** Tony Parker

Doesnt seem like a good trade to me..but at the time I didnt think the Mobley-Christie one was either. Ill wait a bit before I judge this.

But damn, we couldnt of gotten Dalembert or Korver?

One reason why I was never a Parker fan. I always consider him to be lucky he's teammates with Tim Duncan.

I can't believe someone with 2 posts is going to jump in at this point and decide to lecture us on how to feel.

Best starters in the league? You do realize we just lost our starting PF and the guy who's been starting in place of perennially not there Peja?

So now we have Bibby, Cat, ?????, ????? and Miller.

Sorry, but I can think of at least 6 other teams with better starting lineups.

Give us a chance to grieve over our loss. Now is not the right time to come and tell people who have cheered this team on together for four years or more what to think or how to feel.

Thanks for understanding.
First of all,I don't see what you wanted to say with that fact that I have 2 posts?I was reading this forum for very long time, but I didn't was registered.Big deal...
I am just saying facts.Last season without C-Webb we were the best team in whole NBA,and now when he gone, which is the big loss I agree, some people say that Kings suck and that they don't have chanses for winning the trophy! You can love some player,I understand, but nobody have right to say that Kings are now bad team, cuz one player don't make the team.C-Webb certanly wouldn't be so good,if he didn't had support of his teammates!
Thanks for understanding!

I didn't want to think peja had much to do with this, but after reading on another board(from chad ford interview) that peja and his people were "ecstatic" about the trade i'm sure that was the biggest reason. Now that he is "the man" he sure as hell better act like it. That means no more disappearing acts in the playoffs, peja.

After a night of sleep, a day of thinking, listening to all the analysts, callers, talk shows.

I feel a little better now. I don't think its fair to say Petrie is a bad GM because of this one move, especially when you take into account his past moves. He does have some good will in the bank to not be called a bad GM.

I keep asking myself one question. Would we have won a championship this year with Webber? Being honest with myself I would say no, not with the current problems the team was having.

This trade does bring us some better D, and it gives our shooters an extra 20+ shots a game. I still don't think its a championship team at this point, but before I really answer that, I need to see them play some games together.

The answer is: NO! We tried that for several years... and we couldn't do it when Webber was at his best and definitely not right now...

Well, we certainly aren't going anywhere without him now.
