Off-Season Signing... Or lack of there in

Is anyone else concerned about the Lack of FA Movement this of-season?

Yes I know we had the coup of the decade last off-season.
But with all of the quality FA's out there I am stunned that Whiz hasn't been able to get a quality 3 guard, or a Seasoned 2 guard in Free Agency.

Our Depth won us the Champoinship and we are looking thin as far as depth is concerned at this moment.

I have also had an opportunity to check out Cisti Greenawalt with the San Jose Spider. While on paper her numbers look good, I am concerned if she is our fourth post player.
I hope what I saw was out of the ordinary. Cause if she comes to the table with the same intensity that I saw this past weekend... Zachara is a better option in the post.

Needless to say She didn't impress. So am I being harsh???

Adrienne Goodson - 6 foot swing player
Tari Phillips - 6-2 Center

and others.

But the player that I have been advocating for in the past and she still has not signed is Tamika Whitmore. She is a brawler, bruiser off of the bench. It seems like Los Angeles is cleaning house and she is part of the cleaning because they would have signed her by now.

Whis......pick up the phone and holla at Whitmore. We need a backup center.

Isn't Tamika Whitmore a forward, instead of a center?

I notice that Detroit's Ruth Riley is available (as a restricted free agent) and, at 6' 5", she is definitely a center!

The way I see it, he has two active roster spots and 1 IR spot available unless he moves Maiga or Buescher.

We may need a backup center, but we don't need any of the ones still on the market at their price tags. Tari Phillips wasn't happy with her role or her minutes in Houston - what would be different here? We've got 3 draft picks - 2 first rounders - you want their roster spots eaten up by Goody's salary for a year? I honestly thought Goodsen said she was retiring or was only going to play one year. You want to mortgage two draft picks for one year of her?

If Whitmore were that valuable she'da been signed by somebody by now. He's picked up a bruising type post player in Turner so I'm not sure Greenwalt is his only option. On paper, I'd rather take a peek at Turner and think she actually fits the need better. He tried to get a 2 in Tyneshia Lewis, I would have been delighted if she wound up here. The coaching staff has been out scouting the conference tournaments and they'll be in Boston for the draft camp so I think that's everybody's focus right now to be honest.

I'm not entirely sold on the "experience" thing - everybody he brings in has to fit his system anyway.

While I am not entirely sold on the experience thing either, this was a big year for quality Free Agents.

Someone will have to remind me who is still here and who isn't for the Monarchs

So that is 7 for sure and DeMya returns on time that makes 8 returning players.

Haven't taken a good look at all of our camp signees yet.

My concern is that I see a lot of agressive moves out there in the FA market. Perhaps I should have brought this up sooner. But I just think we have been rather passive.

13 spots available. 11 active 8 spots currently accounted for of course there are no guarentees in this Business.

3-5 potential spots available desperately need another guard, wing and post.

One of these spots could have been an F.A.

BTW I liked the Lewis move too. Too bad the offer was matched.

I took last year’s roster numbers 11 plus the two IR spots subtracted the only two players we know for sure are gone from it in Scott and Newton and dropped Walker to the IR. Which seemed to me to give us one less spot for Erin, FeiFei and Miao combo or anybody else for that matter to get a spot simply because DeMya will go on the IR (likely) at the start of the season and come off relatively early(likely) in the season. Somebody making the active roster is likely going to have to either be cut or spend some time in the revolving door that was our IR list last year to make way when DeMya returns. Is that going to be a veteran free agent? If he’s to pick up a FA, he needs to trade somebody to make room on the active roster for them and give them minutes they think they’d deserve for the money they’d cost to bring in. The tradeable pieces are Buescher or Maiga and he’s got to find somebody who wants them and who will give him something of value in return.

We to me aren’t a team in need of high caliber FA signings, we’re in need of more offense preferably from the perimeter and people who have the athleticism and basketball acumen to figure out his defensive system and who can play well with others and who don’t have the expectation that they are going to be the focal point or can dictate how many minutes they’ll play. I want to get a look at O’Neill, Jackson and Turner plus whoever he drafts. There are some nice complementary pieces available at our picks, which is essentially what he’s replacing from last year’s roster. Whiz has had a pretty good track record in evaluating talent that fits what he wants for his team. There are a few defensive-minded off guards in this draft who also can score, there also are some intriguing small-forward-ish types too. Whiz’ aggressive moves seemed to historically come via trades and a solid draft record with his first rounders and his bonanza jackpot acquisition of Newton in the 2nd round. With the callback auditions he’s made with Greenwalt and O’Neill he seems to think he uncovered something in them other teams might have missed too, one of them would seem to have a chance to make the team this year and O’Neill is the most intriguing to me because on paper – she could give that scoring spark off the bench that Lawson did at the off guard spot. But I’ll wait to see who he drafts and what their related draft camp buzz was.
