ESPN.com: Sportscaster George Michael dies at 70
For those of our younger members, George Michael was big time in sports media in the pre-cable era, in the days before the proliferation of ESPN. Based out of DC, GMSM reached national status in the late-70s and early-to-mid-80s.
ESPN980 in DC has been doing an on-air tribute/wake to George Michael this afternoon, if anyone is interested; it has been hosted by Michael's colleague, Tony Kornheiser (who volunteered to come in off his vacation to do the tribute), and his one-time radio sidekick Andy Pollin.
