(Non-Monarchs) The Comets' new Head Coach and G.M.

#1
Several months ago, when we were discussing possible coaching candidates before Jenny Boucek was eventually hired, MBF wrote about Karleen Thompson:
...Wasn't impressed with her in LA, in fact we punked her team out of the playoffs for the first time during her reign. And what's she done in Houston that makes her such a must have?
Well, it appears that she's done enough to be named the new Head Coach AND General Manager for the Comets.

I'm still not impressed with her or whatever it is she's done, but congratulations nonethless.
:coughing:hater:coughing: J/K

I had a chance to chat with Karleen, and I was very Impressed with her. I think we bet the Sparks in 2004 because the team was built to beat the Sparks. We were the only team that had the match up, that could cause them problems. Chances are if they survived us, they are the 2004 WNBA Champs. Although most Storm Fans would never admit to that. So I don't think that is a fair assesment of Karleen or her ability to Coach or lead.

She actually held the team together after Coop left. They could have fell apart then. And Jen-Nay has less experience than Karleen. But we are sold on her. At least most of us are.

I think she has the respect of the players, and earned the right to coach the Sparks the following year. Cause Dr. Evil was certainly a Step back for not only the Sparks but the League.

Big Ups to Karleen. She is runnin the show. But she has a discriminating fan base to keep happy and they are not as forgiving as we are.

I don’t think we were *exactly* built to beat the Sparks, I think we actually finally just got around to beating LA like we should have all the other times we let them punk us out of the playoffs that series. We barely got ourselves into the playoffs on our own. My non-impressedness with Karleen probably is similar to my initial reaction to Boucek. Except Thompson actually had head coached in the W. Thompson had taken over a team with according to Meyers, the Reigning MVP on it, essentially running the same system Michael Cooper had and carried them through the rest of the season and into the playoffs, but could not get the Sparks past us with home court advantage. Could not make adjustments to us in game 3 after her team killed us in game 2. We also have punked the Comets out of the playoffs with her on the bench in some capacity as well. All that said, if she has the capacity to make Snow a better player? I was all over that happening with Brunson when the rumors were swirling that Thompson was headed here to replace Whiz. I don’t hate, I just want to know what she’s done to make her the next big thing. I haven’t seen anything that floats my boat about her. No hate, just being honest.
