[NJ/TOR]And a totally off-topic question

Wow. So not a playoff game...

The most disconcerting thing is the way the Toronto arena looks. Toronto's primary color is red, so most of the crowd is wearing red. The Nets are wearing red road jerseys, making it look as though every single person in the arena is rooting for the Nets.

When is the NBA going to go to the system the NFL uses and have the teams wear their colorful jerseys at HOME, instead of on the road?

I'm at work right now and can't watch, however, the way you described it was pretty funny.

Seeing things close up I actually think the Raptors passed out red t-shirts to the crowd. There are maybe a handful of people in the whole place who aren't decked out in the exact same shade of red the Nets are wearing. I thought the Nets had those striped jerseys? Talk about some kind of mind game. :p

They should just stop with these alternate jerseys and make each team have one road jersey. The Nets should be wearing there regular dark blue road jerseys. I like the home teams wearing white and the road teams dark jerseys as opposed to the way the nfl does it. By the way the home team has the choice in the nfl of what jerseys to wear because all home teams dont wear dark jerseys at home.

Yeah those fans in Toronto were really enthusiastic. You don't see that type of excitement in LA, NY, or other big cities in the US.

I was rooting for the raptors but I think their inexperience hurt them. They had that lead down to one with all the momentum and then NJ made it a 7 point lead again.

Maybe they are hoping the Nets will toss it into the 2nd row for an assist and get a turnover instead????? ;)

Calderon sparking the comeback. I'm a fan.

i cannot comprehend the coach, sam mitchell in this case, who chooses a pg who is not a pg at all and ignores your best player in bosh over a real pg who can both distribute and pass effectively, and plays with passion. the raptors lost the game in the third quarter when tj ran (not) the show. i hope for the raptors' sake, the second game is less tj more calderon.

Alt jerseys are a distraction from this poo poo era of the NBA (and another money grab). Those throwbacks are really obvious, especially when the jerseys are hinting back to teams that sucked (such as the Cavs orange jersey).

What's crazy about this too is that TJ Ford isn't even a good shooter and he's a great passer, but I guess he's decided to prove to the world that he can hit a jump shot. You can see how all the crunch time minutes went to Calderon.

Have you ever seen a team wear their road uni's at home? Yuck! I saw the Kings workout in their road uni's at ARCO one time, and the uniform colors don't even match the colors on the court at all. That and the focal point at home is clearly is supposed to be the court not the uniforms. That way the players themselves stand out more.

As for NJ wearing these red jersey's. They have to be doing it to just be ********* :p

The ACC (Air Canada Centre) has to be the most rocking arena I've seen so far. I went there a while ago, and the fans there are pretty nuts. Maybe not Arco level (although no one really is) but very good. And coming from a city that has the lamest and most passive fanbase, its nice to see.

I always hated the white-at-home policy. If you are at home you should be wearing your colors, let everyone else look the same when they come into your house.....

I go the other way on this: there's something about white uniforms that irks me. I'm more annoyed that the gd lakers are the only team that's allowed to have home uniforms that aren't white. I'd like to see the Kings have purple road jerseys and black home jerseys.

The rule isn't that you have to have white jerseys.

The rule is that you must have a "light color" jersey when you're at home.

LA was just the only team to think of light yellow as a home color.

I believe the NFL rules are actually that the home team gets to pick the jersey and in the really hot cities on bright days the home team will usually wear white.

Most other sports have stuck to the light home/dark away scheme although the NHL reversed it within the decade.

eta: I found this on the Tampa Bay Bucs webpage:
5. Shawn Abel of New Port Richey, Florida asks:

How is it determined what uniforms are worn on the field? I noticed in the last two home games that the Bucs wore their white jerseys. I thought those were their away jerseys.

Answer Man: We’ll decide which ones are the quickies around here, alright Jaeden? This is one.

Anyway, Shawn, here’s the thing: There are no ‘home’ and ‘away’ jerseys in the NFL. The home team does get to choose its jersey color, but they don’t have to wear white, as is common in MLB, or their darker color, which is common in the NHL. The visiting teams have to wear the opposite – either their whites to offset the home team’s colors, or vice versa.

Watch enough Buccaneer seasons and you’ll catch the pattern. The team almost always wears white jerseys at home during the first half of the season for a simple reason: It’s hot in Tampa. Wearing white forces your opponent to wear dark and, theoretically, have a slightly rougher time with the heat. Later in the year, you’ll see the Bucs in red at home. By the way, this is determined at the beginning of the season, as teams send out lists to each other.

When the Bucs travel to venues where heat isn’t as much of an issue, the hosting teams often wear their colored jerseys simply because they like the look. That puts the Bucs in white again. So, overall, you’ll see a lot of the Bucs’ white jerseys during the first two months of the season.

Like I said, the colored jerseys on the home court look unattractive and detract from the appearence of the court which is the indentifier for a home team.

Says you. In fact, you're the first person I've ever encountered who claimed to think that.

Ditto - White is so.....plain. No style or substance. Why do you think everyone is clamoring for the black unis to return? They LIKE them. A lot.

I never hear anyone say, "Hey, I wish we had the home whites from '93 again."

They aren't the only team...the pacers used to wear yellow at home for a little while.

Plus there are plenty of teams that wear alternates/retros while at home and when they do that, the opponent simply wears their home jerseys.

Hey, I thought the same thing until I saw the Kings practice at ARCO in their road jerseys. It looked like the playing floor barfed up 5 purple people. Really weird, the colors don't even match the home floor either.

They tested out a couple of teams this year I think wearing the road jerseys at home and all the players clashed with the playing floor from what I remember.

WOW....Jason Kidd's stat line in game 3:

16 points, 16 boards, 19 assists, 3 steals, 50 percent fg

What a ridiculous night!!!

And now Toronto is down by 30....Jeeze all the hype about their team and their coach...And the Nets are destroying them.
