New Dog help!!

We had to put down our long time family Dog in November and we weren't planning on getting a new one for the family for awhile. Well, we happened to be at PetSmart a few weeks ago and found pretty much the same Mutt that we had before and it just so happened to be the same age(about 8 months) as when we adopted/rescued our first dog. The dog is great, very active and does well with the young kids.......now the problem.

He's pretty much housebroken and when we get up in the morning I take him out and he does his business...however, if he is laying on his back and you rub his belly he starts to pee, all over himself and everything else including me. A smart person would say "don't rub his belly when he is on his back" but with 3 small boys in the house they don't always listen.

My question is has anyone ever heard of this and is this common and the dog will grow out of it??? We have had him for about 2 weeks and he's pretty "excitable".

Thanks for adopting! He should grow out of the submissive/excitement pee thing. Believe it or not, the best thing to do is ignore it. One of the worst is to try to 'correct' it, as it usually makes the dog MORE submissive.
Which PetSmart did you get him from?

Thanks for the input. The article that was sent did the trick. Whenever he rolls over on his back I just walk away and he pops right up.

We got him at the PetSmart in Roseville on Fairway.

:D Glad it was that simple to handle!
