There should be rules set in place to prevent this from happening, IMO. It's as good as cheating the system. Opting out to take less money per year so you can sign another good player, who will definitely want to come and play with 3 stars, leaving the small markets scavenging for middling talent. It's not right. Players forcing trades to cities they want to play in is also not right... I am hoping the league looks into this because stuff like this ruins teams. Carmelo forcing Denver to trade him, Love doing the same in Minnesota...

I'd like to see some kind of restriction where a player who opts out and tries to accept a restructured deal with his current team could be acquired by another team willing to meet that deal (kind of a reverse restricted agent thing). I know there are a lot of problems with the concept, but I totally agree with Sac.Kings that this is definitely cheating the system and stacking the deck by good players.
