Pascal Siakam apparently can hold a grudge. Sacramento had pursued trade talks with Toronto for Siakam but the two-time All-Star was reluctant to join the Kings who had reportedly disparaged him to suppress his trade value, Sam Amick of The Athletic told Sactown Sports 1140. It's unclear how close Toronto ever got to trading Siakam to the Kings but Sacramento had reportedly offered a package centered around Harrison Barnes, Shams Charania told FanDuel TV.

Monte needs to up his player relations game. His inability to close deals is concerning. He’s a smart guy but he needs to understand that players are humans not just assets.

Happy for Siakam that he could go somewhere where he’s valued and get paid well to play with a young exciting team.

Do we know that though? I kind of have a feeling this is coming out now because Monte is once again out there trying to make a swing. It's almost like other teams have incentive to make the Kings look like they've returned to the bumbling franchise they've been portrayed as forever. First the Brown noise, which was just that, noise, now this? It could be true but it's strange something like this would come out now right as the NBA opens for business. Hmmm....

Chris Haynes reported it first months ago that something happened between Siakam and Sacramento that soured the relationship.

Don’t know what’s up with our FO…

Yes, the rumblings were always there with Monte. His dealings with DDV and Tyrese were some examples where the players and agents weren’t really happy. We heard Siakam felt insulted when the deal fell through. Players talk and Monte can’t follow the Morey approach in Sacramento where we already have to pay extra to attract talent.

I don’t know if I buy this. What was the gossip? Who did it get out to? He is a near 10 year veteran with ZERO known character/teammate issue, what is there to gossip about? Monte has continuously gone after coaches/players with outstanding character and seems like a down to earth nice guy himself and we are supposed to believe he is grade school level gossiping?

The implication is that Monte said "something negative" about Siakam's game (To whom? To Ujiri? To other GMs?) in an attempt to drive down Siakam's trade value and word got to Siakam. But this could be anything from going to every GM in the league and saying "Siakam suxxx, don't trade for him!" to having a trade discussion with Ujiri and saying that he didn't feel he could give out 4 firsts for a player with Siakam's career 3PT%. Like, who knows? Did it even happen? Did the Pacers GM plant a lie about Monte to prevent Siakam from wanting to go to the Kings? The world may never know.

Just seems odd this would come out now. Someone also got way ahead on the Brown thing unless that news came directly from Brown's camp which if so... I get it, but not a great way to start this new era off haha.

Monte has F’d up trades and mostly free agency almost as much as Vlade F’d up drafts.

A rational response! How dare you? :)

You know what they say, good things can't last forever (like us agreeing).

Lord almighty man. You're actually trying to say with a straight face that Monte is nearly as bad at trades as the worst drafter in NBA history? That's sad, even for you.

Did your buddy get fired by Monte? Is that why you always feel the need to take pot-shots at him, at any point?

And it's just like... not true. Guys I consider our rotation pieces:

Fox
Huerter
HB
Keegan
Domas

Keon
Davion
Monk
Lyles

3 of those pieces he acquired through trade. And if we want to be technical, so were Colby Jones and Sasha Vezenkov, if they end up being players with us next season.

So you're literally just wrong, again. How can he be among the worst traders in NBA history when a third of our rotation, including one of the best players in franchise history, were acquired through trade? On 48 and 46 win teams, two of the better seasons in Kings history?

And EVEN EVEN still, he's shown to be a phenomenal judge of young talent and he's gotten guys to stay in Sacramento (Lyles/Monk/Len/HB all pretty much resigning day 1), which historically has been damn impossible for our franchise.

You need to up your game wrt not subscribing to every unsubstantiated rumor on the interweb. There’s no justification for anything you’ve asserted. Inability to close deals? Player relations game? Seriously?? Back that up with something substantial. You can’t.

Not being able to come to a mutually beneficial deal is not the same as not being able to close. Clearly teams think they are still dealing with Vlade Divac and they’re not. McNair’s not going to get taken in a deal. Clearly you don’t recognize the difference.

The number of people here inventing their own reality is concerning. Clearly they aren’t following the same team as the rest of us are. Just crazy outlandish things being said.

This is a possibility I mentioned a few days ago. However nobody outside those actually on the phone calls knows a thing. Yet more than a few here like to pretend differently.

It all boils down to confirmation bias. The anti-McNair/anti-KINGS crowd will use it to their advantage, as evidenced in this thread. Unsurprising.
