How long is it? In the past 7 years we have had 2 in our hands and let both slip away: Luka and Tyrese.

Yeah we'll see how Perry does with talent identification and retention. We've had a pathetic run of GMs in the past two decades, but even all those goofs had the opportunity to build around a franchise cornerstone, only to whiff it one way or another.

And if Perry doesn't work out we can have this same conversation about the next guy in three years.

I agree wholeheartedly. It should give impetus to trade those guys. If the Kings gain more defense and lose points by way of trading those guys it will be up to Keegan and others to take up the slack, and I think that's a good thing.

By the way, I'm not in the camp that believes that Lavine should be in the no-trade category because of his contract. Just get on with life and unload the contract. Declare bankruptcy and get out from the under the debt. Clear the slate and move on. Lavine does not fit with what either Perry or Christie are about, so don't diddle-dawdle because your predecessor was stupid.

The "predecessor" is still there. He's the owner

Look at the picks we traded for the second the trade was announced we knew the Hornets pick was two second rounders that wasn’t unknown. With the spurs we should've tried getting this years pick not when Wemby is in his prime praying for an injury (cue the oh we don’t know what was offered bull crap).

I don’t expect anything much of value pick wise for Derozan getting Jamie Jacques for him is a win in my books. Nobody will trade for Lavine and we’ll need his scoring and expiring contract that will be a major assets when it’s expiring. Sabonis we could probably get a lottery pick from Toronto or maybe Brooklyn this year. Some will hate that but what’s the point of keeping him with the ceiling of the 8th seed. Carter, Ellis, Monk, and Keegan with a lottery player from this year is a pretty good start to a rebuild. This roster minus Derozan and Sabonis in the west will be a bottom five team next 2-3 years depending a lottery luck. Next years draft has 4-5 guys that look like stars and Dybansta/Peterson are game changers.

I for one wouldn’t mind the losing if it means we’re developing our young guys and trying to get a franchise player through the draft. Better than gunning for the play-ins with no chance at ever competing
Next year’s draft does look appealing, but we won’t be the only team eyeing those players. There will be teams that decide to dismantle their rosters and join the bottom feeding teams for better odds. However, this year’s lottery is a prime example of why it’s risky to bet on the ping pong balls falling your way - Utah, Washington and New Orleans all slid out of the top four spots. Dallas finished won the lottery with a less than 2% chance. The Spurs moved up to #2 from #8 and the 76ers went to #3 from #5. It’s no wonder people think there’s a conspiracy…

That said, I’m all for developing our younger guys and building through the draft, but we need to make the right picks and coach them up well to help them reach their potential. To date, our team hasn’t done an amazing job of those two things. We’ve pick the wrong player. We’ve made questionable trades and FA signings. We’ve not always developed our talent well or put them in situations to help them thrive. Until we fix the roots, I suspect another prospect year won’t be the franchise changing player we need them to be.

Just can’t bank on moving up that much rather be in the bottom five giving us a floor the west is deep we’re not beating any teams positioned for the play-in right now

Things change so quickly in sports. The teams in the finals may never get there again, for all we know. Just a few months ago, the Pistons were the worst team in a while and an absolute embarrassment, only to turn it around rather quickly and probably should have beaten the Knicks if not for some garbage officiating. Anyway, i say all that to say - I’m not in despair or especially terrified of what may happen for our Kings.

Exactly. How many years now has the "surprise" team made the conference finals or finals only to drop with a thud soon after. The Pistons did the exact things to make it back the right way. They drafted extremely well and didn't really cut corners. They kind of got lucky that their lack of balance didn't send things off the rails completely but they still have decent value since they didn't totally bury any of the young guys they drafted. Even Ivey was starting to pop before getting injured. If the fit with Cade isn't there long term they should be able to get to the next phase pretty quickly as well.

This attitude is what has me crawling back fiasco after fiasco.

All we need is another >.500 run or high ceiling prospect(s) and I'll be sucked back in again too haha

It'll be interesting to see what Perry does this season because I feel like we're set up pretty well for a retool or a rebuild, so I'm likely to get suckered into being hopeful yet again if he does anything but standing pat (which would be a one way ticket to apathy town)!

Very few teams in professional sports have managed to stay in the rebuilding mode for 20 years.
The Kings have managed to do it.

It's simply because they've continuously burned through young talent and draft picks. They refuse to develop anyone or are unable to for whatever reason (Vivek, or whatever). Teams always talk about "building culture" and the teams that have no idea what that means or how to implement try to do that by bringing in vets into teams where the young players are essentially already kind of developed or in that 25 year old + range. Culture builds through YOUTH. Not players that have been in the league for 3 to 4 or more years. Then when the Kings did bring in vets they put them in the way of that youth in an effort to win now. I still say teams win by limiting mistakes and young players get better by making them. Hard to do both unless you land a fully developed superstar in the draft.

Unless the Kings can get out of the Pacific we're basically doomed to be the Baltimore Orioles no matter what.

The Sacramento Kings are coming off another underwhelming season, finishing 40-42 and missing the playoffs for the 18th time in the last 19 years. When the Kings finally broke their playoff drought in the 2022-23 season, many felt like the franchise was heading in the right direction, and while they are certainly in a better spot than they were before their historic campaign, there is still a lack of sense. Much hope around the franchise has been lost over the past two years, but with brand new front office personnel and a new coaching staff, is the future bright for Sacramento? Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes still has minimal hope for the Kings, ranking them 14th out of 14 lottery teams in terms of their futures.

Have you noticed? Indirectly, it was Fox that we didn't get both? We didn't draft Luka because Fox was there! So we draft what was needed and so we drafted Bagley. Tyrese was traded because Fox was there again! If he's not there, would we still trade Tyrese? Nah. Also, it's too bad Pacers didn't want Fox. Now, we ended up with nothing because Fox left lol. SO, Fox screwed us up once and once and once more!!! LOL

It's too convenient to blame Fox. Org just liked Bagley a lot, if they felt Luka would pan out how he did of course they take him and sort it out later. And I'd feel a lot better about Haliburton had we got a pick back in the deal but team is going nowhere in the West with either of them. Maybe had we kept Hali we land Siakam and don't fumble other roster moves? Everything that came next is a bigger indictment of the Monte regime than the trade itself.

Fox deserves whatever scorn you want to give him for how he crafted his exit but the rest of it is all just dumb virtual GM poop.
