Napear Goes Off on THE Bee Again

I'll side with McNeal over Napear. Hell, I'll side with the gum that got stuck to my shoe on my way in to work this morning over Napear.

And generally, within two possessions of Grant uttering that famous phrase, said player will immediately go stone cold. He has also jinxed more streaks than I care to remember...

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!! I just get so sick when he starts his stats because I know what is going to happen next!

Hey, you can disagree with the opinions that Grant spouts and that is cool. You can even call him out if he ever just flat out makes up a lie. I am not saying you have to like the guy.

But he did not lie in this situation - Marty did.
He did not insult a guy based on a physical attribute - Marty did.

..just classless.

What did Marty lie about? The caller id part is at worst a mistake by Marty or an editor. That part is so irrelevant to the story, there is no reason for anyone to lie about it. Why Grant, and some of you guys are so caught up in that part is beyond me. The story is about Marty making a judgment call on Muss based off prior interactions. He doesn't even use those first few sentences to support his story; it's just there to open up the conversation.

I find it amusing and predicable how quick Grant took sides in this.

You are right about the caller ID lie. It was not a big part of the story and I will admit that I (like Grant) am over-reacting. My over reaction is twofold I think.

1) The Bee gets caught making things-up way too much IMHO. This case is not an isolated incident and it is always an 'editing error.' I often wonder how many fabrications go unnoticed.

2) I have grown to have very little patience for the Bee writers ripping on the Kings. They have done it for years and the type of language Marty used here was just classless. I just think the home town paper should be much more supportive. I have thought that for years.

You don't know who lied. NONE of us around here - unless someone is Marty McNeal or Eric Musselman - knows the whole story. While the Bee may have a less than stellar reputation in some things, Mr. Napear is not without fault himself. I can recall several situations where he was forced to either ignore his own prior comments or eat them. He always chooses to pretend it never happened. Grant Napear is not a bastion of journalistic integrity, so to call McNeal classless is not fair IMHO.

^^ calling the coach 'little dude' and 'cat' is unprofessional and classless. He should stay away from the term 'dumb blond' as well.;)

The Bee is total crap, always has been. And it's not just the Sports pages, although they are a microcosm of the world of McClatchy News.

I don't know my cell phone number.

Well, actually, I do, but when asked for it on the fly, I stumble over it.

Why? Because I never dial it. And am rarely asked for it and don't give it out if I don't have to.

I can rattle off my home number because I'm asked for that frequently.

My address? I'm also asked for that frequently. I also see it when I drive home every day. ;)

I also see no reason why a coach should hand out his personal cell phone number to a reporter. The reporter can call "the office" to reach him during work hours.

That's just Marty's style; he has an informal style, and uses lot of urban lingo. Calling someone "cat" is not meant to be offensive, but I can see someone not liking being called "little dude".

Listening to this rant...

Marty seems awfully touchy because Muss didn't give him his cell phone number.

So the phone number is the crux of the story. Marty took personal offense that Muss didn't give him his cell phone number and that led to Marty assuming Muss is a liar.

Sometimes people don't realize how they come off to others, and Musselman appears to be one of those cats. And after that earlier exchange, my antennae went up, wondering if he really didn't know his number or was feeding me some garbage.

As a reporter, when you first meet someone you believe might not be telling the truth, you always question whether the honesty is present.

Which brings me to this Jason Hart, agent Bill Neff and Kings mess. It's only my opinion, but somebody is coming off looking like a liar.
...
So, here's my take: Musselman is the cat who has dirt on his hands. What's even worse, it's as if Petrie and/or the Maloofs were set up to take the fall.

So if Muss had given Marty his phone number, he wouldn't be assumed to be the liar??

Unbelievable.

Marty comes off looking like a jerk here, IMHO. He's basing his entire "feel" about Muss on Muss not giving Marty his cell phone number.

That's absurd.

The radio station and the paper both used to be free PR for the Kings, but they sort of split and Napear went totally off and tied his life to the Kings as a company and the paper said "screw the maloofs" pretty much. Now they take shots at each other without having a leg to stand on, especially Grant.

And for the phone number thing, I don't know my own phone number either. I don't ever call it, so I don't remember it. I have my own number saved on my cell as a contact so I have it when people ask and I need to give it to them. Of course, I hate cellphones so *shrug*.

I agree. Grant has opined on many things over the years and been wrong. Bobby Jackson's injury case in point.
I did not hear the first conversation. It does not upload on my computer, but I did hear Marty's call back on the drive home. Grant hanging up on him was just as Marty called it. Gutless. A word Grant freely uses on just about anybody who doesn't agree with what he has to say.
Fact is, Grant does work for the Kings and he has spun so many things in the Kings favor that it is blatantly obvious when he does it.
I lean towards believing the story that Marty wrote. I can't think of a time where he has ever been accused of making stuff up, where Grant on the other hand....

Sorry and this is so wrong here..

Read post #1 and #2...

Naps and Marty are really not worth me holding the press for. Whatever, let them cry away.

Mind you I didn't read the rest cause honstly I could care less what either has to say.

The audio.....

for this is on khtk.com if you go to the audio archives section for those who have not heard it yet. I heard it on the radio yesterday , but listened to it again today it was that good lol.

Okay, I cannot resist. Maybe this will calm things a bit.

A good blonde joke.

Guy gets on a plane and finds himself seated next to a cute blonde. He immediately turns to her and makes his move. "You know," he says, "I've heard that flights will go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger. So let's talk."

The blonde, who had just opened her book, closes it slowly and says to the guy, "What would you like to discuss?"

"Oh, I don't know," says the guy, smiling. "How about nuclear power?"
"OK," says the blonde. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff grass. Yet the deer excretes little pellets, the cow turns out a flat patty, and the horse produces muffins of dried poop. Why do you suppose that is?"

The guy is dumbfounded. Finally he replies, "I haven't the slightest idea."

"So tell me," says the blonde, "How is it that you feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know s***?"

:D
