MUST READ: Jones spills beans about SAR departure

Seems like Jason Jones has done his homework on this one:
...D’Alessandro also was the reason former director of player personnel Shareef Abdur-Rahim left the team before this past season.

Abdur-Rahim disagreed with D’Alessandro’s decision to draft Nik Stauskas last year and expressed his belief guard Elfrid Payton would be a better fit for the Kings. According to multiple sources, Abdur-Rahim’s disagreement angered D’Alessandro, who then barred Abdur-Rahim from attending the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, even though assembling the summer-league team was part of Abdur-Rahim’s responsibilities.

Ranadive urged D’Alessandro to make amends with Abdur-Rahim, sources said, but Abdur-Rahim elected not to return to the team...

And here it all comes. The weasel's secrets are being unearthed. Enjoy Denver fans because if you thought last season was rough, this one will test your fanhood.

Yep....I read that. The line that kills me is that Vivek hired Vlade as he wanted a person who wouldn't make decisions based on personal agendas. Basically we hired a guy who was insecure enough that if you didn't agree with him he held it against you. Everything I've ever read about SAR was a classy guy.

It really does appear that PDA and Mullin just set this organization back a few years. The lack of getting talent back for Tyreke and IT basically set us back 1-2 years in our talent base. The firing of Malone. Alienating a FANBASE that is as loyal as they come....now that is hard to do. PDA was a complete failure.

It is fairly obvious that what JJ writes is true. And I must apologize for defending him to one Bricklayer for my earlier thread about not calling him a gerbil. He was a weasel and his coming on khtk sealed it in my eyes. This is just awesome news. I can't wait to hear the morning show tomorrow. I get that Dave didn't defend him, he stated that he just wanted to believe in him which was a great stance. But I am sure he will let his true feelings be known tomorrow and I am waiting on tenterhooks to hear it.

I'm setting my alarm. This is one broadcast I do not want to miss.

Maybe we just have a quirky owner who put his trust in the wrong people, a Silicon Valley guy who likes the tech culture and was sort of open house about that sort of thing. Certainly it looks like he is cleaning house, doing his best to move on, and was classy enough not to "leak" bs himself to protect his image.

Its pretty crazy how Dave has the ear of Kings fans so well. Dude really is the epitome of Kings nation. Never too high, never too low. Rational yet irrational in his fandom. I like the new morning show, I think Kayte was an amazing addition tho and needs to spend more time in studio. Morning show should have been Kayte and Dave and afternoon show should have been left alone. But I digress. Go Nuggets! Lol..

good on Shareef...he didn't put up with Pete's antics and this is just another chapter on the short book of Pete's demise as Kings GM.

OH you bet your ass he was all fired up with Petey's "analytics" and Musselman style PowerPoint's. Just another weasel trying to reinvent the wheel. Smh...A weasel with an agenda and an ego. Bad combo.

I knew nothing about Mike Malone before he came to Sacramento, but you could hear in the way he spoke what a straight-forward genuine guy he was. When he talked about basketball being about hard work, and trusting your teammates, and handling your business defensively in his first interview he won me over right away. It's a shame he never really got a chance to make his mark on this franchise the way he should have. Hiring PDA, in retrospect, was a massive mistake that undid the good decisions Vivek made in his first couple of weeks as team owner. Though considering PDA came to us initially through Mullin's recommendation, maybe this was bound to happen regardless. Mullin was a good player but a poor GM at Golden State, and had no business serving as special adviser to anybody except for the fact that Vivek was a massive Golden State fan and just didn't know any better. Larry Bird (one of the first names who came up in the initial GM search) and Malone would have been a great match I think.

Shareef seemed like a good guy too, and if he campaigned hard for Elfrid Payton and quit over it, he's got my respect -- not just cause I felt the same way, but because any scout who feels like their opinion isn't being valued should probably find somewhere else to work. Pete set this franchise back at least a year, but he's gone now. We've got an important draft coming up and some salary flexibility this off-season. I feel a whole lot better about Vlade being in charge because I know he at least cares about this franchise and he's got a lifetime of experience in basketball. I'm glad Pete is completely gone because his attitude was driving away the right kinds of people. After everything we went through to keep the team, the last year and a half has felt like some kind of sick joke, but I'm ready to put it all behind me. Brighter days ahead.

according to multiple sources, D’Alessandro had told Cousins he didn’t want to hire Karl.

OK, he fired Malone because he wanted to play faster. Dumb move but whatever. He wanted to player faster, so be it.

But why would anyone who wants to play faster be against hiring Karl? That's just puzzling. Who'd be better than Karl at orchestrating a faster offense? Who? Was PDA going to hire Mike D'Antoni or something?

I always suspected he wanted to bring Gentry to the Kings, but that was just a gut feeling. The people wh really know what the plan was on the "Night of the Gerbil" are not likely to ever spill the beans on that FUBAR situation.

I really hope the last two years were the growing pains for Vivek and that he has learned his lesson. He was in over his head and I think that caused him to make poor decisions about who to listen to. But the franchise seems to be heading in a better direction. One thing I can guarantee is that the front office will be less dysfunctional going forward.

A few of us were wondering that at the time. Give Malone the boot, explain to the fan base it's because you want more pace and Malone didn't employ the style you want, Karl starts campaigning for the job, the best in the business at a more exciting and higher pace style, then PDA not only promotes Corbin but then quickly ends his interim tag and gives him a head coach deal, while not telling players or fans alike. He actually did it on a road trip while not only with the team, but it leaked out while he was on the plane with the team and everyone found out through social media. Didn't even have the cajones to walk back a few rows and tell the guys he just gave Corbin the head coach label.

Then when we actually do hire Karl a little later, it comes out that Cuz was angry because PDA explicitly told him he didn't want to hire Karl and Karl wasn't the right coach for him, all while telling the fan base he wanted and finally got his guy.

Dude has been a weasel from the start. Lying to anyone and everyone apparently. Just how dumb do you have to be to lie to your franchise player like that, then follow it up by dragging his name through the media as the reason hiring Karl was being held up. Incompetence on a scale I'm not sure I've ever witnessed in this league.

Strangely I read that and it made me feel better about the direction of the team.

Pretty clear now that Vivek was referencing Mullin and D'Allesandro with his comments about the NBA being full of cronyism.

The Kings need a cap/negotiations expert but I feel a lot better moving forward with Vlade and Karl working together rather than Malone trying to succeed despite his GM working against him and stifling contrary views like those of SAR.

I am still more nervous than optimistic about what will transpire draft night but for now I'm onboard with the new Kings brain trust.

PDA was a self serving cancer to this franchise. Every move he made was to conserve his tail as long as he could, with no regard to who's name he was tainting(Malone, IT, Cousins, Shareef) . From the moment you listen to him he just came off as a corporate stooge in over his head. Go to hell you rodent, and let's hope this situation is still salvageable. A cryptic boogie tweet "Karma" would sound nice right about now.

Couple quick things, all these guys that were ousted are still around. I can also sorta soft confirm that the article is correct.

I still can't forgive PDA for everything he's done. It's even hard for me to feel encouraged about the future only because I'm so frustrated we've been set back like this. But with that said... I am so happy he is gone. I truly hope Cousins is on board, Karl is on board, and we have a unified organization (FO + team).
