Did everyone get a chance to see Clay Kallam's analysis on the Monarch's training camp circumstances?

Griffith wants to win now -- in Sacramento or not

"This is the first of the in-depth previews we'll do for every WNBA team -- plus we'll have predictions and weekly conference updates all summer. And in addition, Christine Baker will be following the New York Liberty to give subscribers an inside look at a WNBA team's short but busy season.
You have to wonder about a team's chances when its best player is worried about its ability to compete.........."

I think that was a decent analysis for the most part, I just don't think it all rests on Powell's shoulders. I also would have gone along with the line of thinking FCP has if any of the players we're not going to have this year in the backcourt produced a lick of offense last year that makes me think "hmmmm, we're going to miss {insert name of guard here} providing that spark of offense off the bench. We just did not get that last year. If FCP thought we could have come into the season with that same offensive hole, and still beat out Phoenix, who may have shored up its inability to rebound in the paint and get consistent scoring in the paint, and with Minnesota getting a little bit better and once they get their Katie Smith back in their lineup, they are one step ahead of me. I just don't see where we miss them, except for sentimentally. I don't believe we could continue to contend with the team we had last year - because I don't know how we made the playoffs last year. Powell has to produce, I'm not going to argue that, but I think she can produce without logging starter minutes or being the focal point of this offense.

Were I do agree is whether or not Yo comes in with an acceptance that she was not traded, so she needs to just come in and be Yo for one more season and then she can leave if she wants. I wouldn't even bother coring her next year or even protecting her from the expansion draft. The only reason why I might think about coring her would be to control where she did play next year. I also find it a dubious thought that Yo pressed for a trade after Tangela left. She was on the block before then. I also agree with their assessment of the change in game that should come with DeMya moving back to the 4 and Brunson staying at the 4. Tangela was the one whose game was closest to a SF, but coach said last year she did not want to play there - which seemed odd to me because she never really played like a banging 4 or 5 here either.

If we don't have any other offense around Kara in the backcourt and if Yo forces G Whiz to move her for peanuts or she comes back pouty like she was at the start of the 2003 season, its has a potential to be long season.

Sleepypee’s right!!! Get rid of Ticha!!! Who needs Lawson??? Heck, who needs the team??? Giuliana is a genius!!! Let her BE the team!!! You won’t need Yo to rebound because Giuliana won’t miss a shot!!! We won’t need defenders because Giuliana can guard everyone at once!!! You won’t need a coach because Giuliana already knows what to do!!! All you need is one other perfect player on the bench to come in when Giuliana needs a breather!!! Does anyone have the phone number for Cindy Blodgett???

Royal Diva, thanks for coming in and restoring order in the kingdom. Now maybe we can get back to basketball...

See this is what I was afraid of...

JD I understand your frustration, but

PLEASE....PLEASE....PLEASE....

DO NOT LET SLEEPYPEE'S TROLLING taint your image of Giuliana.
It is not fair to her, she is not responsible for this. She is just a player trying to make a ball club. That's it. And she has enough this working against her right now.

I don't know what you are trying to accomplish SleepyPee.

If you are as concerned about her getting a fair chance as you claim to be, you will give this line of Posting a rest. All you have managed to do is Poison the Board aganist Giuliana. And personally that makes me very upset.

This is so incredibly disappointing...

Can we just take a Giuliani break for awhile? It seems like she is dominating this thread. There are other players on the M's.

I don't think there's any need to worry about people forming a negative opinion of Guiliana based on the postings of one person. I love Mendiola, was happy as all get out that G Whiz signed her last year. Reality is that she may be pushed out by a numbers game. Nothing personal against her or her ability to play ball. There are 12 other teams she'll have an opportunity to play for if she doesn't make the Monarchs' roster this year, a 14th will be added to the league next year and according to the commish, more are coming in future years.

This is a business, not a popularity contest. I think most people understand that.

I agree MBF....I would truly like to see more of what she can do. And if she can fight her way past everyone else, then good for her. I suppose they saw something in her last year that was enough to keep her and develop her strengths. Hopefully the time in Europe was spent improving and getting stronger.......Here's to a great camp!!!!

I would like to see how Newton is working out. Was very impressed with her. And I am very happy that Haynie's foot is doing better.

Unfortunately I will miss the game against the Chinese Nat'l team, but what I would really like to see is how they handle Ruthie Bolton. I don't think she will make the team do to salary constraints but I hope she will be handled with the dignity she deserves. Actually I hope she can find a place on the coaching staff.

Sounds like everyone's getting fired up for the season! Just dropping in after my talking with several Monarch players at the Kings game last night. Too bad it was the highlight of the evening. Only wish my Kings won, then it would have been a perfect night!

During the halftime & before the game Ruthie, Olympia, Chantell and the Australian players handed out 2005 Monarch pocket schedules & chatted with fans. They wanted to encourage folks to come out & watch the team play this year. I greeted everyone & spoke to Ruthie, she said camp was going well and that it was very competetive. As always she is in awesome shape. I also met Haynie & shook her hand. It was really cool seeing everyone getting involved & excited about the upcoming season.
