'Monarchs To Meet The President'

You 2005 WNBA Champion Sacramento Monarchs are heading to the White House on Tuesday, May 16, in order to be honored by President George W. Bush. Honors will also be given to WNBA President Donna Orender on behalf of the WNBA for its 10th Anniversary. The Sacramento Monarchs are one of eight original teams in the league and will celebrate their 10th Anniversary this season. The Monarchs are playing their home opener on Saturday, May 20, following the Championship Ring Ceremony at 12:15 p.m.

That's pretty cool:cool:

I gave that picture of DeMya a real good looking over. She looks pretty good for someone only one month out from delivery.

It was awesome to see Chelsea and Olympia in the picture, too. Their new teams are great to let them out of camp for a day.

Hey, does anyone want to join me at Arco Saturday? I think there's a basketball game happening :D :D :D

I'm pretty sure that's Powell, and not Olympia. The hair looks the same tho :)

Olympia is standing directly behind Kara.

That is Rebecca standing behind K. Haynie

Doesn't it look like Kara is trying to hold Dubya's hand

Naw! That is Bekkah behind Haynie and K-Powell is behind Kara.

Wow-this is sooo cool!! I didn't know that the winning WNBA team got to meet the President! This is great for the league and especially our team. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Let's think of it this way:

The President gets to meet the WNBA Champion Monarchs.
Probably the highlight of his week.

Kara was talking about it today on the radio, she said that he knew who she was and her teammates where like "Do you know him!?!" because when he was going down the line shaking hands and what not with all the players he stopped and have her "dap" :p

On another note, she said that she's questionable for Sat's game because with this thing its a day-to-day situation where one day she wakes up feeling good and another not.

Typical Kara...:) Trey Wingo gave Kara the business in the ESPN studio because she always knew everybody or everybody always knew her. The new 6 Degrees of Separation game may move from Kevin Bacon to Kara. :D

Coach Whiz had a real nice interview on the Rise Guys this morning. Kara was the most excited about meeting the President because he called her by name. The Pres is a big sports fan and has seen her on TV with ESPN many times and said he likes her work.

Nancgo reported:
[snip]...KCRA.com has a news clip of them too. The sad thing is the reporter spoke with some people in Sac who don't know who the Monarchs are...

I watched part of KCRA's report on the Monarchs' reaction after they arrived back from Washington DC. Yo Griffith said to the camera, "we [The Monarchs] are the first WNBA Champtionship team to meet with the President at the White House."

And then the KCRA sports reporter Del Rogers (sitting by the news studio desk) corrected Yo by saying that the first WNBA Championship team to meet with the President at the White House was actually the 2003 Detroit Shock team.
:)
