Mike Redd Erupts.

AFAIC - single game scoring records are totally wasted if your team loses. It should be all about winning, not scoring records. In all fairness, I did not watch this game, so I am not accusing Redd of putting individual records first.

Edit: Good effort by Redd though...and great game.
 
He shot a great percentage from the floor. He SHOULD have shot those. If he shot like crap there would be question but he has been on fire to start the season.
 
redd is nothing but a chucker. i would loathe to be on the same team. it seems that whenever i check their box score, redd takes a gazillion shot attempts with absolutely no assist or maybe, when he is feeling generous, only one. that bucks team will go nowhere as long as their "leader" does not lead. bogut does not seem like he can handle a leadership in the nba. tough situation to be in.

How is 18-32 chucking? He hit over half of his shots.

He's their go to guy. He's the reason they came back from the deficit in the game. His making shots helped even put them in contention to come back. Other guys had their chances like Charlie Bell. He missed a couple potential big 3's during the game. It was a good game. There was only one chink in the game at the end when Redd missed the 1st free throw, to get up to 53 points. He made the second and the bucks were down by 1. Then they got the ball back, and Redd hit an awesome 3. The problem is, on the next position some Bucks were slow to get back, and Utah scored, and the game pretty much ended on a tough 3 point shot. Redd in the first half only had 15, and he let the others try to get involved. His teammates needed some help, and he provided it.

The nice thing imho is that Redd said exactly this in his postgame comments, acknowledging that scoring a ton of points is nice, but it doesn't mean much if it doesn't lead to a win.

Peja career: 18.4pts 2.0ast
Redd career: 19.4pts 2.0ast (28.3pts 2.2ast this year)
Martin this year: 23.4pts 1.8ast


Its very much the same thing, and its not "chucker" if you are good at it -- its "scorer". Not leader. Not superstar. Not the guy who can carry a good team. There are definite limits to how good a team can be with that style of player as a #1 option (namely mediocre), and they aren't going anywhere until they get a true leader capabler of making others better. But that's not really Redd's problem -- he's doing his job, and in a big way this year.

I haven't taken the time to look but, i wonder how many more attempts Peja and Mike average more then Kevin this season.

well, if you want to compare for this season only,

redd: 20.9 fga (9.1 fta) in approximately 40mpg (32.4 ppg)
peja: 13.7 fga (2.8 fta) in approximately 31mpg (15.3 ppg)
martin: 14.4 fga (7.2 fta) in approximately 38mpg (23.4 ppg)

bucks: 82.4 fga , 23.9 fta
hornets: 81.8 fga, 28 fta
kings: 80.2 fga, 29 fta

so roughly one can say that redd is using around 27% (25.45/94.3) of all the team's possessions. this would mean that about every three possessions (since he is in the game for 80% of the game), redd is the one attempting a field goal. that is the definition of chucking, if you ask me.

If we are going to just talk this year, then this "chucker" is averaging 32.4ppg while shooting 52% from the field, 47% form 3pt land, and 92% from the line. Which means that what he is "chucking" is going in at a higher rate than just about anyone else in the league, while his team is scoring 100ppg, and he is the clear #1 option upon whom other teams key their defenses.

Looking at that, both Redd and Martin are very efficient (1.55 and 1.62 points per attempt respectively). Any time Kevin wants to start "chucking" just a little bit more, while maintaining the same efficiency, I am all for it.

Makes me think of Chris Webber's 51 point 26 rebound performance against Indiana on 1/5/01. He shot 24/47 and the Kings lost. Don't remember the score, though.
