Mike Bibby May Play Tonight

Heard the same thing. Said it wasn't insider info or anything, just that with Mike determined to take more of a "leadership" role, he may try to play through some pain (more than he usually does, I guess) if he can help the team. I don't know - if he's only going to miss a game or two until it heals, I say let it heal and don't aggravate it. I'm sure he'll have a doctor look at it before he goes out, and they said he'll probably try to go threough the shootaround and see how it feels.

I hope this is on the OK of the team physician and not Mike just thinking he can tough it out. Hand injuries can get complicated if re-injured.

No, no, no, no, nooooooooooooooooo!

The last thing we need is Bibby playing through pain for 5 weeks or turning this into a severe injury that takes 5 weeks off of the team.

Sit it out! Get healthy and play at 100%. No need to show you're more of a warrior than you are!

This is the regular season so we need Mike bad, but not bad enough to cause more injury to his hand. I'd rather see him get his hand healed then mess it up more. We do desperatly need his scoring so much in our system, much more than a typical PG, but Ronnie should be fine today starting with Bibby coming in off the bench if he can play a little and give it a go.

Mike is tough and is used to playing through pain, but I hear the tendon came off his bone, so this is not just being a little sore and I'd hate to see him get hurt more, we need him so bad to be successful.

Not worth it.

Let it heal Mike. Long season ahead and the last thing this team needs is you to be hampered for a month or two fighting a lingering hand issue because you didn't let it heal.

hopefully he will... but only if he is feeling 100%. No point in getting hurt even worse just to make the home opener. But if he doesnt play, hopefully kmart can make up for it... we really do need a good backup PG in these kin of situations.

I'd rather the Kings start out slow then Bibby hurting himself even more.

If we lose tonight it kinda sucks...But if Bibby plays and jacks his hand up its gonna be downright depressing.

Mike just doesn't want to dress to impress on the bench...he'd rather sit in his warm-ups.

Musselman had the same injury in his past and he said his finger is basically dead cuz he rushed back. He won't let Bibby this roadtrip IMO.

Where are all the people who thought Peja should have played last year with a bad pinkie?

BIG difference between a pinky and a thumb.

Also Peja had a SPRAIN...Bibby has a tendon dislodged from the distal bone. That's a lot more serious. lol

I love it when Kings fans pretend they are doctors.

From all the articles I've read I'd have to agree with Smills.

Anyway, Mike's a warrior but if he does decide to play I wouldn't play him more than 15 minutes. He's had about a week and a half to heal it though, at least it feels like it. Hopefully it's past the point where if he plays his hand will get real jacked up.

You must be some doctor, diagnosing people based on what you read in the paper.

All I'm saying is that there is a major double-standard on injuries based on people's perceptions of the player. People think Bibby is tough, so watch out, he might injure himself further coming back too soon and people say he should take more time. People thinking Peja is soft, so obviously he's unwilling to play through pain and we should all talk about what a wuss he is.

I feel perfectly content leaving this matter to Bibby, the trainer and Musselman.

Mike has an injury which THE DOCTORS said would take 3 weeks to heal. He is trying to come back earlier, which is not surprising given his iron man rep as a PG. If he had sprained a pinkie we wouldn't even have heard about it.

Peja had an "injury" which THE DOCTORS said he could play through. And he chose to take himself out with a teammate playing through the exact smae injury just a few stalls over. Of course Peja also took himself out of games for hangnails and eyebrow waxings, so its hardly a shocker. There is NO "injury timetable" for a sprained pinky. No "1-2 weeks, 5-6 weeks" etc. It is not an injury for all practical purposes at the level of the NBA. Half the players in the NBA probably play through sprained fingers, let alone pinkies, in any given season. It is part of the game.

I must have missed the article where the doctors declared Peja fit to play. Or maybe Dr. Bricklayer wrote that one?

I don't necessarily think Bibby is all that tough. But, if you detach a tendon from your finger you can cause serious damage if you don't let it heal.

Further, a thumb injury is the worst finger to injure on a hand. You cannot brace it against another finger and it is integral in almost any serious activity involving hands that I can think of.

Not saying I'm a doctor - but I'd rather Bibby get 100% healthy than rush it back. Besides, rushing back is what causes people to lose starting positions on this team anyhow ... isn't it? Heh. ;)

Mike is such a competitor and he hates dressing up. I don't even think he owns a suit, tie, dress pants, dress shirt, dress shoes etc. He'd probaby rent a tux for the evening if he had to.
Probably like he did at prom. ;)

i hope this isnt true, he just needs to let it heal no need to rush back and re-agrivate the injury and not return until march

Dr. Bricklayer has apparently played a lot more sports than you, and Dr. Bricklayer has experienced virtually every standard injury these guys go through. Sprains, jams, breaks, ligament tears, separations, you name it.

Dr. Bricklayer will also note that since there was no report on how long Peja would have to sit out he was listed as day to day.

A Maloof said on radio (LA 1540) that Bibby might go tonight - that he looked good yesterday in practice.

On another note from here in LA - the Lakers have 7'0 Mihm, Kwame Brown, Bynum and 6'10 Odom. For me the rivalry still exists, but I think we are way overmatched up front. Way way overmatched throw in a productive EX-KING Maurice Evans and.....YECCH.

Just to interject a moment... There was, in fact, an article that stated the trainer said there was no reason Peja couldn't play. It also said that they would have to let the player decide if he felt he could play or not. I don't have the time right now to go back in the archives and find it, but there WAS an article that mentioned it. I believe McNeal wrote it while he was still the Kings beat writer.

Please Mike rest up. At least KMart and Brad are back. KMart's jammed toe really helped his game. He was like 15-17 pts straight without a miss! I sure hope Kmart brings his game on the road. He is young and needs to play under all conditions, especially on the road with fans being not exactly supportive of him and the road team. ;)

Either that or Dr. Bricklayer lets his personal feelings cloud his professional judgment. Peja could have had a severed leg and you would have thought he was a crybaby.

I'm not trying to turn this into a Bibby/Peja thing, I just find it interesting that some people can have such different attitudes on injuries based solely on how much they like a player or how tough they think he is. Really, it's kind of a pointless thing for fans to speculate on. Just leave it to the players and, you know, actual doctors.

FYI, I'm in school to be a doctor. So I'm not really "pretending" I'm in training.

Owned.

Anyway yeah there were doctors who said Mike's injury takes 2-3 weeks to heal, and IIRC it's been about 1.5-2 weeks since he injured himself so he's probably a few days away from playing IMO. Peja's doctors said he could play if he wanted IIRC.

Are they teaching you how to diagnose people by reading symptoms in a newspaper? Because that would be really useful for a Kings message board. Some people are even practicing without a degree.

PS: Smills, according to your profile you're APPLYING for DENTAL school. Yes, you are clearly qualified indeed.

Oh please. This is taking nit-picking to a previously unheard of level and around here, that's saying something.

It would be really nice if you could quit sniping at people and maybe just address the topic at hand.

I pointed out that there WAS, in fact, an article that clearly stated that Peja took perhaps much longer to "recover" from his pinkie than was common.

And there has been at least one article that detailed what Bibby's injury was.

"Dr." Bricklayer and Smills have valid points. Instead of attacking them personally, why not address those points?

Thanks.

Oh, yes, clearly. I will strive to be more like Bricklayer and address points directly instead of attacking people personally. Or maybe I should emulate you?

Maybe you should. All I'm trying to do is maintain a little bit of civility. Your last few posts have been in clear violation of rule #1, which is why I stepped in. You can debate the points under discussion without the attitude.

If you want to continue this discussion, we'll do it via PMs.
