To summarize here are the possible revenue sources to help build a new downtown Entertainment and Sports Complex for the Sacramento region:
1. Ticket surcharges ($2-3) and surcharges on merchandise
2. Event-night parking fees at downtown garages (between $1 million and $5 million annually)
3. Up-front money from private companies that could build and operate the arena for the city
4. City could sell up to a dozen parcels that it owns to developers, raising $30 million to $60 million
5. Considering renting the arena's rooftop to telecommunications companies for cell towers.
6. Business arrangements with private companies for corporate sponsorships, advertising rights and arena naming rights
7. Set up a special district and ask hotel operators to vote to tax themselves (therefore no public vote)
8. May suggest the city erect electronic billboards for lease or sale at the arena and elsewhere
9. Kings pay rent as tenants
Does anyone see a general sales tax?
Does anyone see where the public can vote on these revenue generating options?
Let the hating begin followed by a shovel in the ground.
