Mavericks owner may give 'Dancing' a whirl

Can the man who doesn't tip-toe around controversy in the NBA dance his way around the stage in front of a national television audience?
Billionaire entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is likely to compete in the next season of Dancing with the Stars according to E! Online.
Television's Dr. Quinn, 56-year-old Jane Seymour, reportedly already has signed on to compete on the ABC reality series, and Cuban's decision is expected to be known by Wednesday morning.
Cuban, 49, is ranked No. 407 on Forbes' list of the world's richest people with a personal fortune valued at $2.3 billion. E! Online said Cuban worked as a disco dance instructor when he was in college.
Cuban has a history of dust-ups as owner of the Mavericks, drawing repeated fines for his criticism of officiating and National Basketball Association policies. More recently, he has feuded with Donald Trump after the real-estate developer ridiculed Cuban for the Mavericks' inability to win a championship. Cuban shot back that Trump was jealous "because he can't afford to buy an NBA team."
Another Dallas icon, former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, was the Dancing with the Stars winner last season. The roster of this season's dance competitors will be announced Wednesday on ABC.

In a way I hope he does it. I'd love to see him stand there and be criticized by Len and Company.

It's official:

Wayne Newton, Marie Osmond to Try 'Dancing'

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Is it possible Mark Cuban, Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Wayne Newton can dance? Viewers will find out on the new season of "Dancing With the Stars," which has assembled another eclectic field of contestants.
Cuban, the billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner, welterweight boxing champ Mayweather and Las Vegas headliner Newton are among the 12 celebrities who will compete when the show returns Sept. 24, ABC announced Wednesday.

The rest of the field:
Melanie Brown, aka "Scary Spice" and Mel B.
Sabrina Bryan of Disney Channel's "Cheetah Girls."
— Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves.
— Actress Jennie Garth ("Beverly Hills, 90210").
— Model-actress Josie Maran.
— Soap star Cameron Mathison ("All My Children").
— Singer Marie Osmond.
— Model Albert Reed.
— Actress Jane Seymour ("Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman").
As in past seasons, each celebrity will be paired with a professional dancer. In the contest that ended in May, Olympic gold medalist Apolo Anton Ohno beat out former 'N Sync star Joey Fatone to win the dance-off's mirror-ball trophy.
Other champions were soap opera star Kelly Monaco, NFL record-holder Emmitt Smith and former 98 Degrees member Drew Lachey.

I'm going with Sabrina for winning. ;)

I don't know Sabrina or what Cheetah Girls is but it sure seems like Mel B would have a natural advantage since the Spice Girls were so heavily choreographed (thought the same thing about Joey last season and he made it to the final pretty easily).

Interesting to see Mayweather doing this, even though he's "retired".

for those of you without young daughters:

Disney made group of young girls that can sing and dance. :D Sabrina is usually the one they have leading the dance moves and is a trained dancer.

So Sabrina is pretty much a ringer? I don't like the idea of bringing in trained dancers to the competition. Kind of detracts from the whole original concept, IMHO. You have trained dancers paired with non-trained celebrities.

I agree. I think Joey and Mel B are pushing it as is. Now that I know who Sabrina is I like it even less. That she's seemingly the youngest contestant is another built in advantage.

Cross promotion more than anything, like Billy Ray Cyrus(Hannah Montana) and Monique Coleman(High School Musical). They're all a part of the Disney Channel which is also owned by ABC.

Don't like it either. I thought the whole point was for the celebs to be pretty much non-dancers. As for cross-promotion? That makes it stink even more.
