Kings co-owners Gavin and Joe Maloof plan to donate $10,000 to Arkansas Baptist College as a gift to former Kings forward Corliss Williamson, who announced his retirement last week.

Williamson will take the next phase of his career to coaching as he becomes an assistant at the Little Rock school.

The Maloofs said they wanted to make the donation on behalf of the Kings' organization to show their appreciation of Williamson's value and contribution to the franchise.

"I think he's the ultimate standard for a professional athlete now," Gavin Maloof said. "He's the consummate professional. You knew he was coming to play every night. He worked hard on the court, and he was dedicated to the team and his family."

Joe Maloof said he planned on speaking soon with Williamson and asked for his cell phone number just after the team's media day Monday. Williamson must live in a less-than-urban area because he said his cell phone doesn't work too well at home, so Maloof might have to wait for the "Big Nasty" to get back to him.

"We knew we wanted to do something for Corliss," Joe Maloof said, "because you can't find a better human being to have come through Sacramento. We decided to donate to his new school, and hopefully that will help a little.

"Now that we don't have to worry about the (NBA's) collective bargaining agreement, we can do what we want to do. There never was an agenda with Corliss. He never took a night off. You've got to appreciate those kind of guys. I think Vlade (Divac) and Corliss, those two guys stand out."

Williamson said, "That's a nice gesture on their behalf. They always have been a class act and ownership group. On behalf of Arkansas Baptist, I want to extend our appreciattion. And that's why I'm proud to have started my career and ended it as a member of the Kings."

Miller has muscles, biceps and triceps

Who knows how it will translate on the court, but Kings center Brad Miller is a much-improved physical specimen.

Miller wouldn't say precisely how much weight he'd lost, but according to folks in the know, he weighed in the hefty neighborhood of 270 pounds at times last season. Now he's hanging out with 25 fewer pounds.

Moreover, Miller has muscle development never seen before in these parts.

Miller said his self-pride was motivation. A solid season from him will go a long way toward helping the Kings surprise those who believe they will be one of the worst teams in the Western Conference.

I can't match their donation, but I can certainly match their sentiment. I'm going to make a donation to Arkansas Baptist College, too, as a way of showing my appreciation for everything Corliss Williamson brought to my beloved Sacramento Kings...and to the game of basketball.

If you go to http://www.arkansasbaptist.edu/ and click on "Make a donation here," you can find a form to print out and use to do the same.
