Detectives are investigating the killing of a Sacramento man in an apparent gang-related shooting, Sacramento Police Department officials said.

Alejandro Villalobos, 23, was shot early Saturday morning after an argument broke out at a party on Burberry Way, Sgt. Matt Young said.

Young said Villalobos was involved in an altercation with another group of men when he was shot.

After the shooting, friends and family members attempted to take Villalobos to the hospital when their car was pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer at 3550 Marysville Boulevard around 1:36 a.m. for a traffic violation.

Paramedics arrived and Villalobos was pronounced dead at the scene, Young said.

The Sacramento Police Department’s Homicide Unit, Career Criminal Apprehension Team and Gang Unit are pursuing leads in the case, Young said.
