Maloofs bet Mayweather to beat McGregor

It seemingly is a safe bet for the Magoofs.....still, that is an incredible bet. Wonder what the odds are for the fight. The only hope for McGregor is that he is much bigger than Mayweather but it just seems its going to be a lopsided spectacle.

Conor McGregor and he's the best fighter of his generation. Aboslute joy to not only watch fight, but watch promote and banter. He's got the Ali gene. True showman.

I'm big time rooting for Conor here. I have a feeling he can do it.

McGregor has all intangibles going for him. Mayweather doesn't have much film of his boxing style... which is going to be eclectic anyway. McGregor will be unpredictable. He's best shot is a surprise shot, and he has power from all angles, and many unusual angles. Look for something like a lead uppercut to sneak through. If solid contact is made, could rattle Mayweather, then look for even more onslaught from unusual angles. Mayweather won't know what he's looking at. Mind game heavily favors McGregor.

Mcgregor fights like a schoolyard kid that's never learned how to punch. He was throwing the ugliest haymakers I have possibly ever seen. Mayweather would have tagged him 5 times for each of those punches he threw at Malignaggi.

yeah but mayweather couldnt punch his way out of a paper bag so its a moot point if he tags Mcgregor

In fairness, they are planning to donate their winnings to a number of charities in the name of their hangover drink (Never Too Hungover, although I might have gone with the more lyrical HurlNoMore), so it’s not like their hearts aren’t a place close to the mythical “right place.”

But it does beg the question, “Why don’t they just give $160,000 and skip the scam?” Because it wasn’t about charity, it was about promotion, and while there’s nothing wrong with promotion, attaching it to one of the seediest carnival events of the modern era makes it seem, well, kind of creepy.

Oh you mean the vid where McGregor pummeled a two division champ who is in the middle of attempting a comeback? Yeah great point.

You don't know what you are looking at when you watch McGregor.... and neither do his opponents, which is the point. McGregor deliberately moves between styles and movement patters. It seems chaotic and it's supposed to. His punching power is insane for his size. He timing is incredible. He can win a slugfest (Diaz fight) and he can also finish you with a precise, well timed blow (Ald0).

Also, no one has seen him fight pure boxing rules. In MMA, you have to guard against 8 weapons (2 fists, 2 elbows, 2 knees, 2 feet), in boxing it's two fists. Narrowing down the guard will change how he fights. You don't know how he fights/guards. Neither does Mayweather. That's the point.

You're laughing at me for saying that a person who has never boxed pro, has no chance against a guy who only hit the ground once in his 49-0 career? Come on now!

He left his whole body and face open on literally every punch in that video. Mayweather is king at using your punches against you, and moving in ways that most boxers just can't. You can replicate fighting Mcgregor far easier then Mayweather. Malignaggi is a terrible sparring partner for someone looking to fight Mayweather.

This is a warzone and one thing about warzones is you can't trust any info coming from a warzone, it's all meant to deceive, distract, intimidate, etc.

All I know is that McGregor is one crafty and smart mf'er. I'm not stupid enough to say he has no chance. If he wins, he wins inside of 4 rounds. He's already nearly psyched Mayweather into going to 8 oz gloves. Like I said, EVERY mental advantage goes to McGregor. I predict a very unpredictable fight. Will be the most watched fight since maybe a Tyson fight.

I can definitely agree on that. I was surprised to hear that he was willing to go to smaller gloves, especially since it's pretty well known Mayweather has problems with his hands. Mcgregor definitely has a chance though, if he gets his shot in then who knows what can happen. I just think Mayweather is too crafty in the ring though.

Marcos Maidana rocked him. Mosley rocked him.

Maidana was able to because he brought an unorthodox style to the fight. Half self taught, Half professionally trained.

McGregor is far too unorthodox. Mayweather will not have experienced anything like it. I am quietly confident that McGregor will cause him some problems and we will see where that takes us.

I'm just a massive fan of McGregor and his whole approach to battle. I saw a recent interview with him where he calls out that if they go to 8 oz gloves, he'll knock him out inside of two rounds.

And now, at this point, McGregor is so far inside Mayweather's head, he's basically pulling strings like a puppet master. There is now no way Mayweather doesn't go to 8 oz gloves, because his ego couldn't handle it if he didn't, but that then puts him in grave danger, because he has a weak jaw and weak hands. McGregor is playing this guy like a fiddle.

Almost all of Mayweather's fights have been with 80z gloves and he's beaten guys with more power and much better technique than McGregor. If anything, McGregor is the one that needs to worry about the 8oz gloves. He got rocked badly by a Nate Diaz 1-2 combo and Nate isn't exactly known for his power. Mayweather isn't either but I can guarantee you he hits harder than Diaz.

Oh I didn't know that. Fun facts: Maloofs used to own this little locals casino called the Fiesta and had some property on Flamingo Road that ultimately became the Palms. They wanted to partner with Stations but ultimately sold the Fiesta to Stations to build the Palms. Around this same time (2001) the family that operates Stations bought this fledgling fight promotion on the verge of bankruptcy and used their Vegas ties to get it sanctioned in Nevada. They sold this promotion in 2016 for 4 billion. That promotion of course was the UFC. Talk about two families that went in opposite directions. (but to be fair, Stations did have a bankruptcy of its own)

I think it would be a major accomplishment for McGregor to go 12 rounds. This is a "safe" bet but the odds really aren't worth it.

There is a LOT of money being put on McGregor to the point where, according to several different articles I saw recently but don't have links to, there are some nervous people in Vegas. McGregor wins and there's gonna be a lot of money flowing out of the coffers.

They have done a good job of promoting because I'm tempted to do the PPV just for the spectacle. I don't think it's going to be much of a fight though and that is probably going to keep me from purchasing but still....
