Lou Williams is expected to receive strong interest from teams that include the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets, providing a clear competition for the Toronto Raptors to retain the NBA’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year, league sources told RealGM.

The Raptors and Williams have expressed a mutual interest, and there will be a window early in free agency for Toronto to finalize an agreement that’s viable for the 6-foot-2 guard.

As one of the most potent scorers on the market, Williams could scan league-wide possibilities of a three-year deal in the range of $27 million or four years for $35 million.

For the season, Williams scored a career-best 15.5 points per game while averaging 25.2 minutes — a magnificent resurgence as a player after tearing his ACL in 2013.

Williams, 28, has played 10 NBA seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks and Raptors. He has career averages of 11.9 points, 2.9 assists and two rebounds.

This could be an interesting signing for us.. I really like Lou as a bench leader/scorer. He's clutch, he's efficient and that three ball is money. He ripped it up on the Raps last year and was a fan favorite here in Canada. What are your thoughts on him Kings-fans?

I'd take him but only after we know if Matthews would come here I'd put
Matthews/Lou/Afflalo in that order.
Also I'm still a believer in Ben if we get Lou is rather have him off the bench coming as instant offense

If we do sign, he'd probably our only new signing as he'd eat up a good chunk of our cap space. I'd still take him though, he could be the veteran SG that we have been longing for. As long as there is leftover cap space to sign Casspi with, it'd be a pretty good signing.

PG - Collison
SG - Williams
SF - Gay
PF - Thompson (?)
C - Cousins

Key bench players: Casspi, B-Mac, Miller, #6 pick

Not bad.

This type of article always sounds to me like agents trying to increase their clients' value.

That said, Williams does make some sense to me, assuming the Kings draft Cauley-Stein. We've talked about the need to shore up SG, but I do think it's fair to expect some improvement from Ben and Nik, entering their third and second years, respectively. Karl has talked about wanting more shooting and ball handling, as well as playing two PGs simultaneously, so adding a 6th man PG/SG type like Williams could be the way we go.

I'd love to bring him along...he would definitely have the keys to go out there and score off the bench.

I watched a lot of playoffs this year, I'm not sure I would like the Kings to invest their space in an undersized non defensively oriented SG. There is just too much size at that position these days. The fact is if you want to get out of the west you have to get through Klay Thompson and James Harden.

It would be so dissapointing if one year after giving up IT for a bag of peanuts we sign Lou Williams to probably a bigger contract than IT commanded, for the same role.

That was my first thought too. On the surface I really like the idea of Williams - the Kings absolutely need a sixth man scorer and he's an excellent option off the bench. But if Williams is really going to get $9 million a year I'd much rather have IT at $6 million per. Better scorer at a lower cost. Que sera sera.

Lou is one of the scariest guys in the league to me now after the Stephen Curry year. I swear every pint sized chucker in the league is going to be throwing up even worse shots than normal screaming "I am Stephen Curry!" on every off balance 28 foot heave with 17 seconds left on the shot clock.

That said, here's what Vlade is thinking: Bobby Jackson. Remember that if I.T. had not suffered from rampant egomania, he himself could have made a potent change of pace scoring 6th man. So does Lou Williams. Its what those guys are built to do. Most of the names Vlade is rumored to be interested in make sense to fill a specific role. Lou is no different.

I absolutely can't stand the way the guy plays, he's like James Harden who always flops on drives except Lou always flops on jump-shots...Although at the right price hell yeah I would have him as the 6th man no worries at all.

Besides banging my head thinking about IT if we chased for this guy, one thing to consider. Our bench was so terrible with Sessions here, make sure we get a decent pg who at least breaks even in improving his teammates production before giving all of our money away.

No thank you. Williams is a potent scorer, but he doesn't score out of a team concept, but out of the same situation like f.e. Jamal Crawford. I think those type of players are detrimental to team ball.
I would prefer our second unit running set plays to create open shots. With Williams there will be a huge amount of 1vs1 play resulting in contested jumpshots more often than not.

If take Crawford or Lou in a heartbeat. Especially as a 6th man w a shallow bench. Just take over the game while cuz gets rest.

I don't want to discredit your opinion, but to me this years playoffs showed, that those kind of ISO-Scorers are not efficient enough. Williams was a desaster shooting 31% and 19% from 3. Crawford wasn't that much better.
Maybe you got a point, that those kind of players work, when your bench is that shallow, that you won't get any offense out of it, no matter how you play. But this may only be a stopgap until we have improved our overall bench production.

Yeah, in the sense that Williams is a SG in a PG's body who isn't much of a playmaker but can score and be your sixth man he's BJax like. But that comparison doesn't go too far. Bobby was a much better defender and a much better rebounder than Williams. Or IT for that matter.

But the thing about IT is that not only is he statistically better as a scorer and shooter than Williams, he's a much better passer/playmaker. Unlike Williams Thomas can actually help you even if his shot's not falling. And his contract averages $6.75 million a year and is actually descending.

I would have liked to see Tyreke and Isaiah retained and properly utilized by the Kings. That said, I wasn't incredibly upset to see the Kings go in a different direction in each case. What I WAS angry about is that two of the more talented players were allowed to leave with essentially no compensation.

And now the Kings need a sixth man. And may have to drastically overpay to get a lesser player than the one they had on their roster and should have made an effort to resign. Collison and Thomas isn't a completely ideal PG combo for the mere fact that both will struggle against bigger, more physical PGs but we could have both of them for less than Ty Lawson will cost next season.

Hopefully Vlade is smart enough to know the Kings can't continue to bleed talent, especially if later the team is forced to overpay for inferior replacements.
