Looking back one last time

A haunting and complex story that explores the strength and fragility of love, VF's visually magnificent post is as affecting as it is beautiful. If it receives no other award, it virtually demands recognition for its tone -- a spectacular memoir that takes us to a very unexpected region of the heart. A masterful conclusion to a magnificent series, the post against which all others must now be judged -- astonishing vision and accomplishment.

That's beautiful, VF. I love it.

For me, things will never be the same, of course, but I thank all those guys for those precious memories that made me love Kings basketball. I can never say "Thank You" enough.

... and your post in itself is a worthy counterpart and acknowledgement of VF's excellent contribution. Thanks Coach.

...When Bobby's mother died, the entire group of guys, who were the Kings at the time, took their day off to endure a plane ride and a 2-3 hour bus ride to be at Bobby's side. That will always be the memory that I carry with me that epitomizes the greatness of these wonderful men...

This one and the one mentioned above how Doug Christie came back into the game a VERY hurt man will be my two most cherished moments of these guys. They were a very special bunch and I will dearly miss what is now the "good old days".

These guys had the hearts of Lions, the Kings of the Jungle and they loved what they did. They loved each other, and most of all they LOVED SACRAMENTO! Our city will forever be indebted to what they brought here.

They were a fun bunch and they played their hearts out. We came th-i-i-i-i-i-i-s close. But you know, I have faith that we can still someday get it done. You know what has always been said over the ages... Defense wins Championships!! :D

It still seems like only yesterday when all 5 were on the court playing while we were glued to our seats watching or on our feet cheering. All good things have to come to an end, who knew it would without any of them getting a championship. They did everything but win that trophy. It's sad to think that we will never see Vlade or Chris in Old Sac in a parade. That was an amazing run.

I put off reading this post for a little while because I knew I would need a tissue and, honestly, I was not ready to "close the book." Thank you, VF, for giving us a fitting closing to the final chapter.

I had a suprise visit Friday morning from some former students. My kids all know that I am a huge fan. The boys printed a copy of that SI cover and had it framed for me. They wanted to come by and make sure I was ok after the trade. They are all sophomores through seniors now, but I taught them in the fourth grade and kept the books for their middle school bball team, so they know all about my obsession with this Kings. Many of them became fans themselves after being in my class - a fact of which I am VERY proud!

That group of guys (Vlade, Peja, J-Will, Doug, and Chris) will always be the first team that comes to my mind when I think of THE KINGS, even though I was a fans before any of them were on the roster and will still be fan now that they are all gone. I wish there was way to tell them all thank you for the joy they gave me while they were here. In my mind, they will always be KINGS!

By the way, I was right, I needed that tisue after reading this. Thank you VF for summing up the feelings of many!

Great post VF21, great thread everyone. Special thanks to Coach who very eloquently expressed what the rest of us feel and think about VF'a original post.

I don't think that anyone should be saddened as the last memeber of the Cover 5 has been traded and the last chapter of that era has been written. As the 5 are now retired or with other teams, their place is forever cemented in this team's history. Just think for the moment what are the "trademarks" of Sacramento Kings, what is _our_ "thing"?

- The Cover 5 and The Era
- ARCO Thunder, which emerged in NBA's colective conciousness together with The Cover 5.

We're not left only with memories of those days...

We now have tradition, history and identity.

Thanks guys. But I have to 'fess up. For my post, I just took the reviews from the movies "The Notebook," "King Kong," and "Lord of the Rings" and spliced them together while changing a few words.

But VF's post is just as magnificent and moving as those films.

Word to the wise:

Coach, who has personal issues with me, is being extremely and utterly sarcastic. His first few comments about my post were deleted, so he went overboard with praise to see what would happen.

Nice try, Coach. You may think the whole idea is sappy, but I think a lot of our members felt the same way I did about the end of the cover team. If you would like to discuss this further, please utilize the PM system.
